Despite what anyone might think, the trial is working and I'm glad to see people ignore the hate.
It all comes to the fact that you can't hate it until you try it. IE. give the game your full 7 days and then come back to judge it.
I've been playing solo and having a great time, but I know just like everyone else knows that MMOs are that much more fun when you play with people that you know.
I am getting my brothers and real life friends into the game now thanks to the trial and this will only make our playing experience that much better.
Well apparently since the beginning of Trials, EU-1 has had an increasing problem with Hackers using trial accounts to test their stuff and also farm/ninja loot tombs (Teleport hacks mostly). NA-1 doesn't seem to be experiencing much issues regarding this.
I think I am going to take the right front wheel and the left back wheel off of my truck now and try to drive to the store with my left hand tied to my right foot.
Everything AV does creates a buzz about DF - although I doubt that's the developers intention, it just comes out that way.
This is true. People love to hate, and I'm not sure why. There's some interesting psychology behind it.
Right, now, I'm leaning towards: they are trying to affirm their own beliefs rather than actually hating a product.
This kind of rationale can be turned around on you and others and be jsut as applicable as it is to the "haters".If you like the game why do you need to come to a non fan site of the game and "hate" on others that don't share your opinion of said game(any game will do not limited to DF).It could be you want to affirm your own beliefs by finding those who agree with you adn vilifying those that don't.

We are here because we want to discuss the game, but when someone strolls into this forum to stir things up, you can't expect everyone to just bend over and grin.
Most of the hate at this point is coming from people who played the game at launch and couldn't stand it, and for some reason are still lurking around the Darkfall forums (a year later). Many of the others are people who have obviously never even played at all. Now how would you handle someone who falls into either of the above categories, who is spreading inaccurate and BS "facts" about the game?
There is also a third category which can simply be labelled as skeptics. A couple of members that are perfect examples of this are StrixMaxima, and xzyax. These are the type of people that are far from fanboys, but are quite capable of having a logical and reasonable discussion regarding the game. Hell Strix even recently gave the game a second chance and found it still wasn't his cup of tea. His review was fair, well thought out, well written, and most of us felt he gave it an honest attempt. He simply did not want to continue with a sub and he gave understandable reasons why. People like this are respectable.
The kind of logic you are using is the same as if you opened the door to my house, waltzed in and slapped me in the face, and after I return the favor you ask "why did you just slap me"? Where's the sense in this?

You are only partially correct sir. This is a subsection of a PUBLIC forums not a private forum for fans of Darkfall. So it's nto liek your house at all but more like a community convention hall.In this regard I would compare Trolls as immature children who cry and shout to get attention. Now is it considered the right thing to do in that setting to go to the child and start cry and screaming back?Bringing yourself down to said child's level rather than acting in a mature manner?
I think the Darkfall community would attract more new, friendly and mature people to it if it comported with dignity and maturity rather than lowering itself to the level of trolls.I have heard on only a few posts about how the community is friendly and mature for th emost part. But actions on this and other forums on the part of your community seems to belie this.

Darkfall players are for the most part very friendly and helpful.
BUT....we don't take shit. This section of the forums is dedicated to Darkfall, and therefore it's players tend to inhabit ti, to discuss the game. When people come on here spouting bullshit to try to pick a fight...that's exactly what they get.
So far I don't have a LOT to say about the trial other than....
The game world is TRULY beautiful. So pretty, in fact, that the lack of ambient sounds isn't bothering me AS much as I thought it would. I'm really surprised at how the game LOOKS, to be honest. I did not expect it to be so....stunning.
And....4 goblins ganked me....bastards. They respawned JUST as I looted my first 40g. Pissed me off so bad I had to hunt them down again and make them PAY. I have a feeling I'll be feeling like this a lot both from NPCs killing me....AND other players killing me, but....c'est la vie....or c'est la morte. heh
Edit:
I will add....that the torrent download went very smooth and fast. Lots of people seeding...thank you. I returned the favor. The installation was also smooth, easy, no issues. I don't think the UI is bad AT ALL. Maybe a little confusing at first, particularly when you're trying to loot a headstone and then have to switch back to fighting in the middle of it. But it's not beyond being able to get used to it. Overall so far...I have nothing bad to say. Not sure it's going to be my style of game in the long run, but time will tell.
The game world is MASSIVE. If you don't like exploring....not a good game for ya, I'm afraid. Lots of land to cover getting places, for sure.
It's really cool that this thread is popular. I added some more stuff to my initial post for new players and I will continue adding to it when I think of new things that will help them out, such as joining NEW and stuff like that.
I want this game to be successful just as much as everyone else that is enjoying it and so the best way to do that is word of mouth right now since the game has virtually no marketing. So let's continue to make threads and posts about the game so that they stay on the homepage of mmorpg.com and other websites
Oh and for those of you that like to hate this game and post about it which is fine because this is a public forum, just remember that negative publicity is still publicity for the game and will only bring more attention and thus more players.
So please, continue to bash Darkfall because you are helping the game grow. If you want the game to die, simply stop creating more publicity. Simple solution, really.
No better example than Star Trek Online. Everyone in the beta knew how terrible the game was and continued to post about it, yet that brought more attention and more sales.
Fortunately, Darkfall is actually a good game so the playerbase will actually grow. So please, keep bashing us
-"Charge 1 $ for trial? wouldn't that scare off a big protion of those that could be interested in the game?"
-"If they cant afford 1$ how will they afford 15$/month?"
If we charge 1$ we will protect the existing community (now name one other company that thinks like that?!) and stop the rampart goldfarming chineese..
/End thread

Hey everyone, Ok so about 20 minutes ago, the company behind Darkfall is now offering a 7-day trial for new players for only $1. Click Here to go to the Darkfall website. This is your chance to see what the game is all about and it really won't be costing you guys anything. If you are MMO hopping as I was a few weeks ago, I recommend you give Darkfall a try. I am really enjoying it so far because it is much different than anything else out there that I have tried. Some tips I have for new players is to bank your loot often. When starting out, don't hold on to more than 100 gold without banking. And save your Arrows as well, unless you are skilling up your archery in the beginning. And prepare to be addicted Also, I recommend that you play with headphones. Sound is VERY important in this game because you gotta keep your ears open for approaching PKers. If you listen well, you should be able to avoid gankers no problem. The only downside I have to the game so far is that it can take quite awhile to skill up to catch up to people that have been playing for awhile. But this is no different than any other MMO. Hope to see you all in game, I am on my 3rd week and having a blast. Let me know if you have any questions about the game, I haven't been playing that long but I'll do what I can to help new players out
Haha to even charge for a trial? Then its not a trial. And I dont care about the money I can buy 10 copies just for the sake of it.
But now when I see how greedy they are about it I will NEVER .. EVER.. play Darkfall or give them 1 cent.
Thanks for the info !
Good, we don't want ingnorant players in the community
***************************** I have nothing clever to say.
This thread has shown me just how many gamers don't have jobs. Weird...
Even if that were the case, finding $1 in a couch cushion is easy. Heck, you could probably get $1 out of a soda machine coin slot if you searched hard enough. But that isn't the issue here.
But you're just an ignorant person, so I guess I can't blame you.
Surely you are joking right?
Calling someone else ignorant, after your own post before this one?
My god.
***************************** I have nothing clever to say.
It's not the dollar that makes me not want to trial this game to be honest.it's the immature nature of the player base shown in threads like this on this and other sites. It's up there with the Cryptic games player base IMO.
And yet isn't it strange that in blogpost after blogpost we read of new DF players saying that they are soo surpriced about the maturity of the playerbase in Darkfall huh?
***************************** I have nothing clever to say.
All I got to say is I am impressed. I hated on Darkfall for the last 7 years, now I am taking the high road after doing this dollar trial deal. This game has grabbed me and I think I am going to buy it, I have only been playing a day but dayum I am good at these games, forgot how long its been since I played this style.
Can't wait to explore the world. See you all on the battlefield.

As compared to what? LotRO?
This community is no worse than the majority of gaming communites. For a PvP oriented community its fairly well adjusted. PvP games always attract the best of the best and the worst of the worst. If you can't align yourselves w/ people you enjoy and take pleasure out of killing people you dislike, then you've no business in a full loot PvP game, and we seriously won't miss you..
Immaturity is the inability to ignore or take in step the words of another person w/out pissing and moaning about them being immature.
Please guys, don't feed the trolls.... Thank god anyone with a brain is giving the game a TRY instead of being influenced by these trolls.
Having more than a few functioning brain cells has always been an issue around here. But I truly believe that the majority are gamers with some degree of intelligence. The thing that's a bit misleading, is that some of the biggest numbskulls, are extraordinarily LOUD.
Just ignore the din, try not to feed the ravenous trolls, stay open-minded and centered, and continue to ENJOY gaming. I'm sure as hell not going to let a whining bunch of malcontents make decisions for me on what games I try, what games I play, and what games I like. Pffffft. I highly doubt many people will.
The one dollar trial is a brilliant idea. I would prefer that ALL trials were done this way to give the game companies a bit more control over the game experience for the player base. No, it's not a perfect solution to some of the issues with trial accounts, but...it's a better ATTEMPT to curb the problems than what other developers have done thus far. I applaud Aventurine for that. People who are whining about it are either too dense to think through the reasoning, too poor to afford a dollar (which makes no sense...if you don't have ONE dollar you probably should research other hobbies for yourself), or they're just your generic trolls looking for reasons to bash every single game they encounter.
And regarding what someone was saying about negative publicity....you are ABSOLUTELY right. As a matter of fact, I doubt I'm the only one that first noticed Darkfall BECAUSE of all the hooplah about it. When people hear an uproar like that....it stirs a primal morbid curiosity in us, I think.
Anyway.....on with the show!
P.S.: Goblin gank squads need to DIE. My bloody moaning face is NOT a pleasant visual with my morning coffee. lol
If this is the case, then I'm definitely going to try out Darkfall. One dollar isn't a lot of money at all, and I don't see why people are so uptight about it. It's only one dollar, and since quite a lot of people in this thread are commenting that Darkfall is actually quite good despite the negative publicity, then I'll definitely be trying this game out. Who knows; I might actually like it enough to subscribe to it.

They're uptight about it because there is nothing better to complain about, apparently lol.
Been playing the trial for a couple days now and I love the game! Of course I am still under noobie protection so I haven't experienced the PvP side yet, but the PvE is fun and exciting. The crafting is simple, yet you can jump right into it and feel like you are accomplishing something.
I did have one time where a group of orcs tried to jump me but of course I was protected so I just laughed to myself and continued doing what I was doing. They could have still messed with me as knockback seems to hit you even under protection, but they just took off to find more rewarding prey.
Money builds up pretty fast and after just a few hours of playing I had two sets of armor in my bank along with the set I was wearing not to mention all of the crafting mats and weapons.
I've always wanted Turbine to make an updated Asheron's Call, but they've been too busy catering to the themepark crowd. Darkfall is exactly what I've been wanting and it brings me back to the feeling I used to get when playing AC back in the day.
I'm definitely planning on buying the game and subbing after my trial is over. And I would recommend this game to anyone who's tired of handholding MMOs with invisible walls and predetermined paths.

I'm not saying don't defend Darkfall.I'm saying defend it with intelligence and dignity.Do not stoop to the hater/troll level because it make you and your community come off as bad as said Trolls and Haters.Trust me if you fire back with reasoned and polite responses you come off looking good and make the hater''s who resort to insults and illogic look even worse. This in turn will encoruage more people to at least give the $1 trial a shot.

And here we have an example of what I'm talking about.Starts off asking a reasonable question but quickly degrades into an attack on my character with no basis for it.it could be argued that I fired the first shot but I have said I am basing my words on the actions of Darkfall posters here and elsewhere and have admited my conclusions may be wrong as the posters may not be indicative of the community as a whole.I keep thinking about paying the dollar and giving it a try...then I read something liek this and I swing back the other way.

Well said, i really dont like when people say things like "if you dont like Darkfall then youre a carebear and should play hello kitty" because it honestly do more hurt on the game than good.
I have played both mortal online and darkfall now and I can say that darkfall wins on almost everything. One thing I didnt like about darkfall is the looting system that I have to drag and drop everything to inventory and that the mobs respawn faster than I kill the second mob. Brcause by the time I get to loot I die because mobs respawned.
I am on the EU server, since I live in Sweden and I had no lag what so ever. And the game runs smooth.
No where on my post do I say it's free To all of the existing user base, we jumped in with no trial at all. We paid $50 up front without knowing whether we'd like it. So, all of the future buyers have a chance to try it out by spending $49 less than me and the others lol
English is not my first language, but a trial means trying before buying. if u spend a dollar, or even a cent to play for 7 days, it is no longer a trial. It is a paid game.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

This is true. People love to hate, and I'm not sure why. There's some interesting psychology behind it.
Right, now, I'm leaning towards: they are trying to affirm their own beliefs rather than actually hating a product.

So please, keep bashing us
AV office:
-"Charge 1 $ for trial? wouldn't that scare off a big protion of those that could be interested in the game?"
-"If they cant afford 1$ how will they afford 15$/month?"
If we charge 1$ we will protect the existing community (now name one other company that thinks like that?!) and stop the rampart goldfarming chineese..

I have nothing clever to say.

Even if that were the case, finding $1 in a couch cushion is easy. Heck, you could probably get $1 out of a soda machine coin slot if you searched hard enough. But that isn't the issue here.
But you're just an ignorant person, so I guess I can't blame you.
Surely you are joking right?
Calling someone else ignorant, after your own post before this one?
My god.

I have nothing clever to say.
And yet isn't it strange that in blogpost after blogpost we read of new DF players saying that they are soo surpriced about the maturity of the playerbase in Darkfall huh?

Main characters:
Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
Princess Pudding (Guild Wars)

English is not my first language, but a trial means trying before buying. if u spend a dollar, or even a cent to play for 7 days, it is no longer a trial. It is a paid game.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
