GW2 totaly made copy paste from SW TOR which i think is a totally scam. With the crap about affecting with every action and decision u make the surroundings
Its total stealing ideas lol , but still i wish for those 2 games to be something really good but for SW TOR even better cos they been first.
Funny
People are already calling a newer game SW:TOR clone, and not WoW clone anymore lol
Anyway, can you point me wheres the dynamic event system in SW:TOR is?
I'm very familiar with Umbra, but if you saw what they were showing it was high poly and even with multiple texture channels they are still going to be taxing standard systems, look at the city and the environments, theyre better than aion and aion runs poorly on medium pcs.

I said it and i say it one more time they ripped off the idea themselfs lol andi dont call it a clone i may be wrong but from the looks of it its true
The systems may seem similar if you just skim through the details without actually reading them in depth, but theyre not that close. Also, how exactly did GW steal anything from SWTOR when these things have been put into the game throughout development, and we heard abotu SWTORs systems what... a month ago? God Arenanet must be spending billions of dollars and have the biggest staff ever to completely redesign their game at its core every time SWTOR makes an announcement..... yes that was sarcasm incase it went over your head. Have you ever even played GW1? GW2 is making lots of innovations, but a lot of things are also already in GW1 and are simply being improved this time around.

Pls no more answers like that.
About SW TOR have been known alot of things even a year ago or more dont remember now and the fact that every decison and action u make in game affects surroundings was first thing they announced long time ago lol.
So youre sarcasm is totally missplaced sry .
And for the record Bioware Kotor etz decisions that affects everything in game etz thats been there and will be in SW TOR obviously to, cos bioware known from this side to that they make games with this kind a style

I'm jumping into this very late, but as soon as I saw the topic I said to myself "Oh man... this is gonna be like... 5 pages long".
I was close... it's at 8 =P
I'm more hyped for TOR. but here's the real beauty... I'm probably gonna get both! One of them doesn't have a sub-fee... sooo... really not gonna be any skin of my ear lobe to buy em both and play them intermittently (with a slight bias towards TOR because, lets face it, I'm a sucker for Bioware games and Star Wars is my secret nerd passion).
Someday we'll all look back on the age of computers - and lol.
SWTOR may have been in development from 2004, but it was only announced in 2008 (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/207583/star-wars-the-old-republic-announced-for-pc/), so there is no way for ArenaNet to have "copied" SWTOR's mechanics when they were announcing dynamic events in 2007. As for instanced personal storylines, GW1 was already doing that in 2005 anyway. A strong single-player story may be Bioware's forte, but putting an instanced personal storyline in an MMO setting is not all that new (even LOTRO does a light version of this, albeit with less voicework), and GW1 did not copy it.
Next thing you'll be saying that GW2 is extensively voiced in order to copy SWTOR too, although ArenaNet has been talking about that aspect for years as well!
Sorry If I misreaded the sw:tor clone part, but believe me I already saw someone saying the same thing about stealing and stuff...
As someone said, SW:TOR got announced in 2008
Even tho if you look close, you will see that the manner you change the history and environment in both games is different.
In TOR you make choices in the story which will be reflected in the future...ok
In GW2 you make acts that will change the environment temporary...ok
See the difference, of course im not looking at all details but still my point is clear.
Anyway I dont see a reason to a grudge between GW2 and SW:TOR the manner this thread is making. Heck GW2 will be b2p so you can actually play both while only paying one.
Both got a lot of potential and somewhat got different features toward differend player personalities.
You only need to see what you will like more

I'd love to see one of these MMO's (or both rather) do very well, and not live under the shadow of Activision-Blizzard's behemoth.
Although, I did enjoy playing SWG during the pre-NGE period, I just don't know about SW:TOR... Doesn't feel like Star Wars to me. I've been dying to see a remake of the Galatic Civil War themed again, ie, The Empire versus The Rebellion.
I'm choosing Guild Wars II as the MMO I'm more hyped for simply because it's an MMO that many are hyped for that isn't Korean (grindfest) based. Also, GWII's previous game did very well.
Sorry If I misreaded the sw:tor clone part, but believe me I already saw someone saying the same thing about stealing and stuff...

The thing is in SW TOR u affect your surroundings also well perhaps in another way but apart from it about GW2 there hasnt been said to much just about the classes and the latest video where they mentioned about the nvirement.
But like somoen before said GW 2 i b2p which is awsome from this side and i will play it also just wanna get out of the WoW era >.< and move forward towards new bright juicy mmo future thats why im a bit overreacting a bit sry .
This whole waiting for an good mmo that never comes an dbe going back to WoW over and over again makes me sick <.<

I'm looking forward to playing both of them. I'm hoping/assuming that Guild Wars 2 will release soon enough to give me something to do while waiting for SWTOR.

Ummmm... Just FYI, there have been several articles covering quite a bit of info about the Dynamic Event System and how it will impact the world around it, theyve been talking about it for months.

I'm sorry knapu, but you're the one that is missing info about GW2. I dont know much about SWTOR lately (lost interest some months ago), but one thing im sure: GW2 has much more innovation in material and ideas than any other game i saw for years, and SWTOR is not that close (although i might say that they have a lot of new things too). When I heard about this 2 games I followed the infos and I understand your confusion.
From what i understood some time ago, yes, SWTOR affect your surroundings, but only because of your actions in storyline, so it's not something all the other players can share with you (maybe someone in your party or something simillar). Can you give me a link of info about this feature of SW TOR???
GW2 affects surroundings in the world, giving players the choice to act or not in it, wether they are on the same team or not. And there's more: your character personality and reputation changes because of your actions; there really exist an invasion of mobs to the cities, destroying everything and even the city NPCs, instead of seeing them walk around waiting for us to appear; if you destroy a city or save it, any other player that comes across that place will know your name and what you did; there's a lot more in this dinamic events system from GW2 than you think, and this is all outside the personal story. how the hell can they copy/past that from SW TOR???
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
This whole discussion is pretty pointless, but I'm posting just to mention a few things about posters on both sides of the argument.
1. Why are people saying "I won't/will play GW2 because I did/n't like GW." They are two completely different games, albeit with the same lore, and though they are developed by ArenaNet, it's entirely possible ANet will/won't completely fail on their GW2 endeavor. SW:TOR could fail horribly for the same reason. Basing the success of a game solely on whether or not it was developed by X company is both unadvisable and unwise.
2. Though I don't know much about SW:TOR, it seems a lot of people are judging it, whether for good or ill, based on info that's really just ideas on paper. SW:TOR features a number of interesting new ideas, as does GW2, they both have huge potential if their respective developers pull of what they hope to pull off, there's no point arguing who's ideas are better when we haven't even experienced them for ourselves.
Personally, I'm in favor of GW2. Simply because I prefer the steam-punk styled animation, and the fact that it's B2P. While I am a Star Wars fan, the idea of "space battles" wore me out somewhat after playing EVE for some years, not to mention I was never a huge fan of the sci-fi scene in general. I'm sure both games will be successes in their own rights, but discussing "which is better" is a moot point. They have completely different payment models, intended audiences, and settings. I honestly facepalmed as soon as I saw the title of the thread and had a similar reaction to the guy who said "I knew this would be at least 5 pages long."
Until a few weeks ago I would have clearly said TOR. These days I am not so sure. GW2 has a lot potential and might in the long run make more of a dent into WOW than TOR. The only reason I voted TOR was, it still looks a tad more unique. I don't know so much about GW2 yet, and my GW1 experience was not so good.
But we gonna see, I guess. Even a $150 million budget is no guarantee. The competition in 2011 is going to be very tough! Even "smaller" titles like Rift, ArchAge and TERA seem to be very good and interesting - so far, and even DCUO looks considerably good.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
One asks for a sub, the other just for you to buy the box. Comparing their success is comparing apples with oranges. Their payment models dont conflict with each other.
I'm not a big fan of single player MMO's. So GW2 for me. SWTOR sounds like a great single player story game, and NOTHING more. Nothing innovative What So Ever besides voiceovers.
TBH I'm more excited for the MMO's over the horizon like Planetside NEXT, and Everquest NEXT.
i dont even know where youre coming from with this comment. it's doubtful youve seen/read anything pertaining to GW2. it's the most revolutionary MMO since WoW.
The fact that you think GW2 is revolutionary, especially "since WoW" (meaning you also thought WoW was revolutionary) really speaks volumes on your stance.
After finally watching and reading up on GW2, I can easily say I am definitely more hyped for that than SWTOR.
Mainly because the devs and publishers for GW2 just do a great job of really explaining their goals and their mechanics and what they want to do to kick the genre in the teeth and than send it to a plastic surgeon.
SWTOR, from what I've seen, says, well, you have hide behind shit. And the characters have VO. Woooo.
GW2 seems to be shooting to tip the genre on it's head and give it a good hard thrust a few times.

SW:ToR but only because I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars univerise, the KoTOR games, and BioWare.
