I'm really hoping it bests WoW for me. There has not been a MMO that has held my attention other than WoW, and even that has lost A LOT of it's fun factor.
Definitely getting Guild Wars 2, but SW:TOR has me giddy with excitement. Sith Inquisitor BIATCHEZ!
I'm almost in the EXACT same boat as you. I play WoW because my brother plays it, but it has lost almost all of its luster (it's all about the LOOTZ now for most people and it has become mega-grindy...in some ways I think BC had a better end-game since the progression was slower for most, so it didn't feel like you were grinding at the top so much).
I will very, very likely get GW2 because there's no monthly fee and it looks good, but TOR easily captures my excitement. Personally I'm more excited by the Jedi Consular (and being a good Sith looks fun...though honestly most of the classes look fun)*.
*Probably be good aligned with all my guys...that's just how I roll.
Until a company proves the Star Wars IP can work as an MMO I'm calling BS on every attempt.
That's funny, I seem to recall Star Wars Galaxies being a huge success till the NGE update.
It wasn't.
It's a common misconception that it was doing well. In actual fact it was bleeding customers at a large rate before NGE came around. The poor quality of NGE just hastened the bleed.
Lol, a Witcher fanboy. Clearly you haven't played Mass Effect 2, comparing it with B-movies is just beyond ridiculous. Sure, Bioware gets a lot of hype but not undeserved. And yeah, I'm European, and yes, I have played them all - DAO, the Witcher and Mass Effect 1 and 2.
But about GW2 and TOR: TOR will be a big hit, it being in the hands of Bioware instead of another game company like Cryptic or SOE sure helps the franchise, but I expect something new and different from GW2. I played GW and it was a blast, plus they did a lot of things differently compared to other MMO's: no subs, being able to choose 2 classes, limited skill set, it was not a bunch of separate servers but one world (although heavily instanced), and the arena and guild combat was great and reminded me of Magic the Gathering with the many different skills you could pick from.
Everything I read about GW2 convinces me that GW2 will even be better. I always liked the art design of GW too, and GW2 looks to be just as awesome.
Aye...
B Movie my arse. The Mass Effect movie rights have already been bought. I heard Avi Arad was in on it.....he has a number of production credits for Marvel movies, and I think he used to be an editor. It should have a pretty decenrt budget if the movie ever does get made. They have a few posts about it up on the BW forums.
I dont know which I enjoyed more...ME1 or ME2. ME1 had the better story IMO, but the gameplay in ME was better. Not to mention some of the companion missions were pretty good.
If ME isnt my favorite game franchise of all time, then it is close.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

Sadly dispite calls that it would be the first MMO to break the 1 million mark it lost its way towards the end of development floundered and didn't live up to the hype.
I'd love to say I'm more hyped for Star War The Old Republic cause I loved Star Wars hell I still do. But honestly I think its likely to be WAR style WOW game with Story and VO. Which is very nice but nothing that special.
Where as Guild Wars 2 looks like its pushing the limits and looks like its trying new things and offering a more complete MMO experience. Now I can't say for sure if GW2 is the game I'm most looking forward to I must admit even though its a long way off Fallout Online has me pretty excited, and the Secret world looks like something new and if World Of Darkness ever comes off that looks amazing. But Out of the two I think GW2 is going to be the more innovotive and offer something we haven't seen before. While ToR will be more of the same, no doubt great if you want that, by 2011 I think I will need something more than the same old game. Hell it didn't work for STO so doubt it will work for ToR.
Plan on playing guild wars 2 along side it, ONLY, and its a big only, because its B2P. I still want my $20 back arenanet, that I spent on the crap you called Guild Wars 1.
I'm gonna buy gw2 , because it is free upon purchase, but damn the way they keep hyping this game up like it is to be the next big wow killer. I mean, I gotta say , it sounds to me like it is a recipe for disaster. Can you say over hype coming out of the gw2 team>?
i will give both games a look, but i am most looking forward to ToR... i am going to say the opposite of the previous poster, until they prove it isnt as good as they claim, i am going to be excited about it.. so far all the hands on reviews have been favorable, and the game footage released looks like what they r claiming the game will be... does that gaurentee that it will live up to the hype? no, but if u dont fall prey to the hype and stick to the facts u do know, then u won't be setting ur self up for a huge dissapointment when it does come out.
GW2 hands down. GW1 didn't really hook me as much as a few subscription games have, but I have gone back to it intermittently since it was released.
Now I am finding the Gw2 videos impressive and interesting, but the fact that I know I will get my moneys worth out of the box price is really making me look forward to the release. Every other MMO I have some interest in has me wondering if it will justify a subscription since so few have lately.
GW2 for sure. Bioware has no experience in MMO's and so far the game has shown it. Sure they have MMO vets works for it but its plain to see who is calling the shots. Arena made a great game with GW and speaks nothing but MMO-wisdom with every announcement they make on GW2.
P.S: You forgot TERA. Those are the only 3 games which even make a blip on my radar right now.
With the addition of space based combat, I'm going with Star Wars. GW2 would have to have some kind of crazy mounted combat with siege warfare to pull me away at this point.
The thing is, I am a social PvE player. That means I want SWG back. Plain and simple.
GW2 is the follow-up to a PvP centric game that showed its korean influences a bit to strong. It just wasn't a "real" MMORPG the way I like them. It was a good multiple player game with hub.
SWTOR? Hard to say. Bioware knows how to make fun RPG's but the combat in those never really challenged me. To simple, MMORPG's are heavy on repetition, battles have to be hard to have a continued challenge.
Frankly, I am in need of a new game, will probably play both but am not to hopeful either will provide what I want.
Yes, I've never seen a high fantasy MMO before, one with warriors and rangers... Oh wait... WoW has that. Yes, they're both going to be great games. I liked GW but it wasn't enough to keep me going on it. Star Wars on the other hand has had my attention since 7 or 8.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
GW2=WoW=SWTOR=themepark nothing new here both lose!

Its simple for me to choose. SW:ToR wins. One reason was enough GW2 = NCSOFT. Did play Aion and im not impressed with NCSOFT at all. Besides that, whats new in GW2 that have not been seen before?

Guild wars 2 for me. So far what I'm seeing from bioware on SWTOR seems like a single player rpg, and I dont like how it looks to much.
Guild wars though =
That's funny, I seem to recall Star Wars Galaxies being a huge success till the NGE update.
Well, that's not at all correct. Hopefully Bioware can properly educate people in the coming year (I think it is likely they will).
It wasn't.

Looks like a tie.
GW2 of course.
Stwor seems to me like another wow like with star wars skins.
The gameplay seem worse that wow, more like Sto or CO.
Aye...

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

GW2 hands down. SWtOR looks interesting and I will probably check it out, but I've ben excited for GW2 since it was announced in 06 or 07.
Steam: Neph
This "Bioware doesn't have experience making MMOs" crap doesn't fly with me.
When stuff like UO, EQ and AC hit the market, they didn't have experienced either. Yet, we ate it up.
Further down the road Blizzard had no experience with an MMO and again, we ate it up.
I have more faith in Bioware than I do most MMO developers with experience.

The Old Republic, without doubt. Been pumped about it since 2005.
Very difficult.

Its not difficult at all.
SW:TOR = World of Warcraft with lightsabers
GW2 is nwe and going original places.
GW2 wins

Neither!
Its funny how most make same mistake over and over again, after all these failors and copys in past years, but they do it again hehe.
Hype, hype, hype, follow, follow, follow, blindly, blindly, blindly:P
