As mentioned above, when you take into account travel time, talking with other players, deciding on where to go, people going link dead, etc., and the XP rates, it's actually faster to solo to the cap in WoW, which is why so many people do it.
People with friends dont have to solo. And it's not actually faster to solo to the cap in WoW. The one's hitting max level first are the one's dungeon grinding as 5 man party's in every expansion.
But you were refering to jumping into a game alone without trying to find or having likeminded individuals prior to your engagement towards the game which ofcourse it's going to be faster to level.
To me it seems that these are the people that whines about MMO's being "single-player games". Maybe they are the one's with the single-player mentality rather than being able to make friends that are 'goal orientated' and can enjoy the game as much as their friends.
So these people should thank BioWare instead, but I guess they see this unconciously as an insult without knowing it (oxymoron, unconciously - without knowing it :P).
Group if you want, the option is there. Find people who want to group! If you can't find people to group with, then it's not their fault for not wanting to.
I myself will form/join a guild, recruit, group, solo and do whatever the hell I want, and THAT my friends, is the beauty of the MMORPG.
Remember that, and stop whining, its really awful. No wonder you can't find groups. I read five pages and was already irritated. Why on Earth would I want to group with you strange sods?

Nobody is complaining about finding groups, at least I'm not.
You can find groups in WoW. Who want's to? It's pointless when you can easily solo to the cap.
Finding groups is easy in every game.
But a good grouping game is not about finding a group, it's about how the group works once you find it.
You're whining that someone might not like your solo fest game. Really kind of hypocritical.
I don't see anyone wanting you to group with them, and I for one don't find it hard to form groups in any MMORPG.
But I do find the game play extremely boring ina solo fest like WoW once you do get in a group.

I think it depends on the server type when it comes to WoW level grouping. I play on both a pvp and pve server. I see more groups and am asked to to group far more on a pvp server then a pve server. I figure it's to level while lowering the chances of being successfully ganked. Funny thing is, I prefer to group on a pve server to make up for the boredom and solo on a pvp server because I enjoy the challenge.
I do agree with you though, grouping in WoW is pretty boring, but it's that way solo as well. Boring all around, but still, the only MMO worth playing at the moment, sadly. For me anyways.
Why are people complaining about a game being soloable, when theres obviously going to be benefits of grouping? It caters to both people, so whats the damn problem??
I like to do abit of everything actually. I group with people who want to group, and no one should think for one second that just because people don't need to group (Which by the way, they will for certain missions.) It doesn't mean they won't want to.
It's not like some of you here are the only ones that want to group to do things.
For the record, I wouldn't want to group with people who can't see that you have a choice, and always have a choice. From experience, people who whine about something that hasn't even been made yet, aren't worth associating with. Alas, complain anyway, if thats your game. Theres just no real reason to until you encounter, 'IF' you encounter that problem. At the moment all the complaints are about lack of group content, yet they haven't said anything about it yet because it is still one YEAR from release. You don't know everything about a game until it's actually released, and even then you'll find out more as you play. It's just idiotic.

There is no comparison to grouping in WoW and a game like DAoC, before all the expansions.
I'd say it was actually easier to get in a group in WoW than in DAoC.
HOwever, the grouping in WoW was so lackluster, that it was probably more fun to play solo.
Whereas the grouping in DaoC was an art form and required some knowledge and serious coordination if you wanted to perform to the peak of your groups abilities for maximum rewards.
So, the people saying you CAN group in a solo game! Just dont' get it.
Yea, you CAN. But why would you when the grouping sucks?

I think I'm understanding what you're saying. It's about the challenging experience that comes along with it? Where it requires large amounts of coordination? An example being, even if ToR was a full group MMO, if it was easy and required no cordination, it would still be the same boring experience. I can't disagree with that. But I can say about a year back this was talked about on the forums, then some guy from BioWare starting poping questions as to what would be more fun, one of his examples was something along the lines of avoiding carpet bombings while fighting a boss. Most people wanted something like this, seems like the fight would require cordination and I'm sure more if the boss had his own unique skills to use on your group.
The game can be piss easy, I'll still play. I get my challenge from PvP (most of the time). But I can't say it would be a bad idea to pump up on the pve content difficulty, I'm all for it.
This has been going on for many many years. If you group and you dont get MORE XP or loot its waaaaaa.. then grouping is boring to you. I tihnk only a few will remember grouping was to be with friends and take on that boss and was a blast. Was not about XP, loot. Now its.. " if I dont get more XP, loot when I group I'm gonna cry and waaaaa alot till I get what I want!". So lets not twist this into something its not.
Most dont PLAY the mmo anymore. ME... I'm one of the very old ones that play to have fun. If some solo player is getting more xp ..lol so.. I'm with my group .. mostly friends and were there to have fun. d
HAHA I loved this "off somewhere playing solo, either way you dont' exist as far as I'm concerned" little does this person know.. nor does he exist to the other millions of players that group and solo...just another grain of sand .. the same as everyone else...

If I don't get as much xp and loot solo as in a group it's waaaaaa....
Oh look, we can both post something meaningless.
I know it's hard for you to get, but it's not about YOU (people love to think everything is about them) it's about the game code.
You playing solo, or not playing solo and grouping instead, or not playing the game at all, doesn't change the game code.
Either the game is challenging for a group, or it's not. That's the programming code.
Nothing to do with YOU. The universe doesn't revolve around YOU, and nobody cares if you can or can't solo.
And what's this about YOU playing the game to have fun? I suppose other people play games to not have fun? Is that supposed to make any sort of sense?

Well said. I like what they're doing with this game as far as grouping goes and I know that I'll be utilizaing it with my guildies on a daily basis.
I can see the logic of being in groups = killing harder mobs. But if just being in a group and killing normal solo-able mobs and getting a higher xp %, that is just asking for horrible horrible things to happen. I know they're smarter than this over yonder at bio-ware and whatnots.

No, they've already mentioned that because of the increased kill rate, being in a group will get you at least 3x xp for being in a group than solo.

So I take it everything is hunky dory with you then as far this game goes on the grouping aspect? Or is it still not enough because the devs said that it is possible to solo the game?
Why are people complaining about a game being soloable, when theres obviously going to be benefits of grouping? It caters to both people, so whats the damn problem??

Enlighten me.
The problem is if I can solo the game, then I'm just wasting my time in a group, it's pointless.
Theres this thing called time. You could do what you could do solo in a group, but three times faster. I see that as a pretty good incentive to group.
This would be true, if there were no solo players on the server, except me.
No, theres solo players, and then theres solo players who are annoyed at game mechanics, and the choices of others.
It's just not about you, sorry.
Never said it was, however i'm entitled to express my views on grouping, and the best way to do that is from personal experience.
it's about the game play.
You nailed it.
You don't seem to get that, and seem just wrapped up in yourself, and somehow believe I care what you would do in the game, or if you were even on the server.
Starting to doubt if you understood what I was trying to convey at all.
I assure you I don't. I only care about he game play, and that is hard coded into the program, has nothing to do with you, or if you play or not.
Unfortunately, these games (MMORPG's) do infact become affected by the actions of the player base. If people aren't grouping for a raid, then its the games coding? I don't think so. You seem to be offended I offered a personal opinion on a public forum. That aside though...
I think the problem is, 'again'... (having to repeat myself for some people..) the sheer fact that you are allowed choice, doesn't bode well for people who on extreme ends of either side of the scale. For example, a soloist and a group...ist?...
The benefit to grouping is speed and ease. < Simple to understand. There maybe more mentioned in future but so far thats the incentive to group. However, you may progress on your own at a slower pace should you wish to.
Thats not hard to understand, and for the record I'd feel touched and surprised if anyone did care about what I do in a game, but thats what we do here. Compare experiences and opinions, thats what that was. Don't confuse it for a plea of attention.

This is the way it should be done. Don't force people to group who don't want to and make it worth your while if you do like grouping. A win/win far as I'm concerned.
But I'm sure there will be someone along shortly to say that this doesn't go far enough.....
Yes, force them to group. Force them to group in order to level, These are multiplayer games. Expecting to be able to advance by soloing is unreasonable. Silly, really.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
You really can't have it both ways. A game is either designed primarly for grouping or soloing. A good grouping game can have soloing but not in a way that will make soloers happy and a good solo game can have grouping but not in a way that will make groupers happy.
That is exactly right, and since there are already tons of single-player games out there...
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
Soloability doesn't equal single player. The sooner you realize that the sooner you may have an opinion worth expressing.
Yes, it does. Given the option to solo content - most players will do so. The more players who chose to solo - the more difficult it will be to find people to group with.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
So since it's a game, why in the world would people want forced grouping?
You said it yourself, people would rather progress at thier own pace and group when it's convienient. Forcing people to group only makes them dislike the game. As a form of entertainment with an every growing list of competiton, developers would be stupid to go againt the wishes of the majority to quell a small population with some old school notions.
This might come as a surprise to you, but - some people like grouping. They play multiplayer games in order to group with other players. Imagine that!
MMOs have gone too far to appeal to loners.
If a a game is known to require grouping to advance (thigns like crafting don't need to be group content) - then the players who don't like grouping won't be playing, and the groups will be comprised of players who enjoy grouping - rather than just being in a group to gain some carrot. If you like ballet - wouldn't you rather see it with others who enjoy it too?
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
Oh goodie! Another WoW hating troll! Can we have a discussion that doesn't involve bashing the most successful game ever? And for that matter, if you thik WoW is a single player game, then you haven't played it. Half the fucking game is instanced and required partys of 5-25 players.
You don't need to group once to get to max level in WoW. Same as SWTOR, apparently.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
The old MMOs are still around. Last time I checked, UO, EQ,EQ2 etc are still there. Their numbers aren't exactly staggering(wonder why that is?) but they're still there. What's stopping you from playing them?
What's stopping you from playing single player games?
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
I have no problem grouping, just dont get mad when i put the group on hold cause i need to take an important phone call for 20 minutes or have to deal with real life things for 30 minutes when we are right in the middle of important group quests. Because those things come first always to me. Also dont rush me when i want to run over somewhere and gather some mats or something in the game because that is how i play the game and this is my time, my money and my entertainment and nobody is going to tell me what i can and cannot do within the game ever. But no the same people wanting forced grouping go cussing you out when these things happen.
If you can't devote a couple of hours to the game and your party - then you shouldn't be playing MMOs.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
Or maybe you can give both soloing and grouping a place, you know, like the most successful game out there (wherein people are constantly grouping up) does?
People group in WoW for the content which REQUIRES grouping.
It's already been confirmed there'll be group content outside the soloable personal storyline (which can still be grouped if you so choose).
Which won't be required to level to max.
But yeah, giving people choices and all is bad, we should all be forced to scream for healers and tanks in the main town all day if we want to kill anything other than rats and bunnies.
Or reroll as a tank or healer. Ever hear of alts?
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
I am for a good grouping game. What means a good grouping game to me, someone else will call "forced grouping".
But I dont' care if they group or dont' group, or go play a different game.
I want a game that is hard to solo.
Not because I want YOU to group, but because that makes it fun for ME to play in a group.
You have nothing to do with it, and I could care less if you play, solo, don't play.
But make soling hard enough that I enjoy grouping. Which means someone will say "OMG! this game is so hard to solo, that i'm FORCED go group!"
yes, because it's a good grouping game.
Like, if I want to drive a race car around the track, there is no room for go carts.
If you don't want to get in a race car, I'm not forcing you to, but please don't say we ALL have to drive in a go cart because you're scared to go that fast. Then get off the track, because I want to drive a race car. Doesn't matter to me if you jump in the race or not. I certainly wouldn't force you to to get in a race car if you don't like it.
But the track is for fast cars. What are you going to do?
A GOOD grouping game makes soloer's cry "forced grouping". What are you going to do?
So you're the type of player that in order to have fun everyone else in the game has to play it the same way.
There is nothing unreasonable in expecting that players in a multiplayer game be required to play WITH other players. It's expecting solo play to be accomodated that is unreasonable.
That's basically what you're saying. I don't care how much you want to sugar coat it, and it's exactly what I was saying in the first place. Guess this game isn't for you then since it clearly shows players being able to advance without others. See ya.
Now - that's the attitude that shines through the soloers arguments. At least NOW you are being honest.

I'll take "SOLOING over GROUPING for 200 ALEX"
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
I can see the logic of being in groups = killing harder mobs. But if just being in a group and killing normal solo-able mobs and getting a higher xp %, that is just asking for horrible horrible things to happen. I know they're smarter than this over yonder at bio-ware and whatnots.
No, they've already mentioned that because of the increased kill rate, being in a group will get you at least 3x xp for being in a group than solo.

Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
Yes, force them to group. Force them to group in order to level, These are multiplayer games. Expecting to be able to advance by soloing is unreasonable. Silly, really.

Kinda hard to feel heroic when you need everyones help to do everything.
I think it requires a balance between both. Nice to have the choice though.
God forbid one day someone looks for a group to wipe their own ass. Sometimes independance is a good thing.

That is exactly right, and since there are already tons of single-player games out there...

Yes, it does. Given the option to solo content - most players will do so. The more players who chose to solo - the more difficult it will be to find people to group with.

You don't need to group once to get to max level in WoW. Same as SWTOR, apparently.

What's stopping you from playing single player games?

If you can't devote a couple of hours to the game and your party - then you shouldn't be playing MMOs.

Or reroll as a tank or healer. Ever hear of alts?

Now - that's the attitude that shines through the soloers arguments. At least NOW you are being honest.
