MMORPG.com's Joe Iuliani makes this report from his recent experience at a hands-on demo of Blizzard's upcoming Starcraft II.
One of the highlights for me at PaxEast was having the opportunity to get some hands on play time for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. For those of you who may be unaware, SCII is the follow up Real Time Strategy game brought to you from the folks at Blizzard. Love them or hate them, Blizzard doesn't disappoint in the creation of a quality game. There is a general fervor surrounding any Blizzard release. I don't think I'm alone in this line of thinking, and I certainly wasn't alone in my desire to get my hands on this game.
Fortunately for me, I had a little inside knowledge where SCII would be displayed. This insider info allowed me to make my way to the prominently displayed NVIDIA exhibit. Both the representatives from NVIDIA and Blizzard did an outstanding job of controlling the masses. As such, I stepped up to a keyboard and began.

In before "this is not an MMO! why is this here? what is this site coming to!"
Oh crap. Nevermind.
Well if you're going this far, you might as well pre-view us some Red Dead redemption while you're at it. Especially the Multi-player free roam mode . Looks to be more of an MMO than most MMO's that have released lately.

Adding myself to the WTF this is not a MMO crowd.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
I think they are putting themselves out front of possibly the biggest selling game release of the next 2 years and they want advert money.
Guys, we're not listing the game, we're just doing an article on it. If you think a ton of MMO gamers aren't also looking toward Blizzard's RTS, you're wrong. We do our best to bring stories that are going to be of interest to our readers and we think that this is. We did the same thing with Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age.
If you're not interested in reading about non-MMOs, then don't click on it.

Wait a minute ...
Playing for ... 15 minutes and then concluding "...is that if you enjoyed the first one, you're going to love this one...".
And fill a complete page on mmorpg.com

Who else wants to have soma cake please ?
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.
"Love them or hate them"
This kinda crap has got to stop. Blizzard is just a company that provides high quality video games. They've earned a lot of respect in software development circles.
It almost seems like you guys (mmorpg.com writers) feel the need to apologize for speaking positively about Blizzard.
No apology necessary. They're a damn good company that releases damn good games and has for a long, long time.

Personally I don't mind, as I agree with your point. There are most likely quite a few people here who are interested in this game. I don't see a big deal really at all, whether it be for the purposes stated above or even another more ominous reason you're not telling us. It's just a game and this is just a gaming website, the two go hand in hand. Whether the game is an MMO or not, there's going to be an interest in it.
I still would like to see what you guys think of Red Dead's multiplayer functions if you get around to it:).

That's fifteen minutes more play time than most people have had. He also states in the article that he witnessed a good deal of play time as well.
This was the play time we were granted by Blizzard, so that's what was reported on. You don't have to be a douche about it.

At least the hands on bit was hands on. Unlike the recent pax APB 'review'. And at least it did come across like a review rather than a cut and paste from the press pack.
Hah! Honestly, I'm glad they're doing reviews on a larger range of games, and not just MMO's. So, naturally, this made me laugh a bit. Keep it up.

Nice to get some more insight. Looking forward to SC2. Thanks.

Seriously, gamers today are not what they used to be! Too many whiners and complainers in todays gammer community!
I for one am glad this got a review on a gaming site that I frequent on a daily basis. I am looking forward to this game more then most all the MMOs these days and since our MMO field seems to be playing a balancing act between the good, the bad, and the ugly these days, I find that playing stand alone games at least kills the withdrawl symptoms!
Good review, wish you'd have had more hands on time, but I will take this to wet my appetite for the moment!
I agree, and thanks for the interesting article Stradden. Just because this is MMORPG.com doesn't mean it has to be nothing but MMORPGs all the time. I like a nice break with a non-MMO every once in a while.
This is madness!
Hahahaha, dude just got called a douche by the site's editor-in-chief. That's freaking awesome.
Edit: Oh, and obligatory "No, this. is. SPARTA!" reply to the post above me.
LOL, I agree.

This made me LOL!!!!
Wouldn't people interested in the game go ahead and look up info on the game?
This article could have easily gone into the PAXeast article and is not deserving of it's own. If Mr. Iuliani or Mr. Wood truly wished to hear what people had to say about it, why not just fire up a thread in GD? A group of beta players would be able to say exactly how it runs on their machine, how the matchmaking works, specifics for each side, etc.
Given that MMORPG.com isn't a prompt source of MMORPG news (given that it takes days, weeks, or even months to put up mere Press Releases), I don't think you should be spreading yourselves so thin. There are Bioware and Blizzard fansites for that kind of stuff.
If MMORPG.com hasn't posted a news story you've encountered on the internet regarding an MMORPG, then why not submit it as a tip to the Newsroom?
My tips get published regularly, you might see "Thanks for the tip from Xobdar123!" at the bottom of some news pieces, and you'll notice that my title is "Tipster."
I for one enjoyed the article. i feel its relavant regardless of it not being an "MMO" as many mmo players such as myself are interested in the game, and its MP features and what the game offers as a whole. MMORG.com was smart to include a few articles to this site that is non related to MMO"s. It shows they arent a one trick pony. and I enjoy and respect that. keep the articles coming.
3.4ghz Phenom II X4 965, 8GB PC12800 DDR3 GSKILL, EVGA 560GTX 2GB OC, 640GB HD SATA II, BFG 1000WATT PSU. MSI NF980-G65 TRI-SLI MOBO.
You do realize they are trying to cater to all that come to their site, right? These articles are nothing more than attempting that. Has it hurt you in some way that there is an article on a non-MMO here? If that's a yes, seek help.
This is gaming news, the same as any other you will find here. It just so happens to be about SCII rather than about WOW or some other MMO. Which we get plenty of on this site. I definitely can't complain as there's usually constant updates in the news section about the happenings in the MMO world. There's very little reported on anything else, which to be honest I'd actually like to see more non-mmo news here. It would save me the time and hassle of visiting other sites.
Some people complain just to hear themselves complain, which is what I think you're doing.

I would like to know what is the major difference between this and the original because it seems like the same thing to me other than the obvious lego art system they have going here. From what I understand each race has a few new abilities and they added a single player campaign that took them 10 years to make ?
Agreed, that is the bottom line, no one forces anybody to read these stories.
Thanks for taking the time to post this Stradden and a second thanks to Joe for taking the time to write the article and give those of us who are interested a nice glimpse into what is coming.
