Not to nit-pick but unless you're playing a clothy, eg. healer/caster, then realistically swinging a weapon (1h or 2h) requires strength. That comes from muscles, and in most fantasy worlds I don't see soy-based products or vegetarian dishes, so much of the protein is meat. Workouts such as killing thousands upon thousands of rats, wolves, goblins, dung beetles, and the occasional dragon need sustenance.

The 'bustier' they are usually means the bulkier(muscled) they are otherwise they get pooped in the middle of a fight.

Ok, my turn to exagerate, but guys...this is a GAME.  Nothing about fantasy based games are realistic, so who cares if women get a third boob ot guys get smaller heads (now THAT would be more realistic no?).

You play what you like and if any Freudian observers have anything to say, give them a /facepalm and then do a /dance and move on.   image

Scientists say that the more hetero male you are, the longer your middle finger is. That's the finger next to your index finger. In a full hetero male when you extend your hand the middle finger is longer than the index or ring fingers, maybe even by a finger nail.
    .
When a woman extends her hand, the index, ring and middle fingers are nearly the same length.
    .
Wish I could graph the length of middle finger and compare it to males who prefer to play female toons. I bet we would see a less protruding middle finger in males who like playing female characters.
    .
    I'm not judging, just speculating.

::laughs:: wrong.  I was once pegged as a man and the chick who accused me of being a man would not beleive otherwise because i described the npc i was playing as being very very busty and 'bouncing' down the stairs.  And while most of my toons are guys, the few girls i do have where you can make them boobtacular ... i often *do* make them extremely endowed.  Why?

    1) I'm extremely endowed and dont' see anything wrong with it.

    2) i'm a roleplayer and some of my characters are built for comfort, not for speed.

Granted, i don't go for freakishly boobtacular.  But i'm a DD and i dont' see anything wrong with a character who's a DD.  Thats what corsets are for.  I'm not nippin' in my waist, i'm making sure my tits don't beat me to death while i'm riding a horse. (true story.  Never ride a horse without proper support, omg.)

Why not skip past the pseudo-scientific nonsense, and just say what you're saying - that you suspect that guys who play female characters tend to be gay?

I just want to point out that its a little odd that people automatically equate gender and sexuality like that.  Maybe on some level, I like pretending to be female, but if I could be, I'd be a total lesbian.  Maybe I'm not the most macho of guys, but I'm not the slightest bit gay, either.  I know it sounds like a lame cliche, but if anything, I like women a little too much :p

The vast majority of my straight, male friends, play female avatars in MMORPGs. I can assure you they are straight, who cares either way?

That said, I only play male avatars, and my wife sticks with female. I would be more interested in seeing how it breaks down between married men and women.  Do married men play female avatars more often or less often. And do married men who play with their wives play female avatars more or less often? I dont know any men who play female avatars when playing with their wives.

Meh, doesnt matter one way or the other to me, but now I am kind of curious.

I've found that people who equate what you play with your sexual orientation and gender preference are people who can't get over it.  I.E. if someone says such a thing to you - they are sexually insecure and can't use imagination over the physical world - they can't use imagination over genitalia, its impossible.

My advice - just pat them on the head and reassure them that even if they found the character being played to be hot, it isn't gay as long as they thought it was a girl.  cripes.  people - its a game.  This is just like the skunkbrained twaddlemaster who insisted that someone's male character could not beat their male character because a woman could not beat a man.

Yes.  If you are a woman playing a male character, this guy insists your character cannot beat his because women can't beat men in a fight.  Obviously someone who's never been in PVP online and just plays freeform in chat channels.

If you don't like being around men who play fem toons, don't play.  At all.  we dont' need the narrow minded and unimaginative to bring the gaming world down another notch just because you equate image with reality.

I'm not exactly married, but living with my girlfriend for the past two years.  We have two computers, we play MMOs together sometimes.  At first, I felt like I should play a male character when we play together, but was relieved when she said she kind of liked when I played a female character.  So now, that's what I do.

Say Bob is your coworker. You've worked with Bob for 8 years.
    .
One day Bob comes to work wearing a skirt.
    .
How does this affect you? It doesn't.
    .
Is it going to be the main topic in the office that day? You bet.
    .
When the pretty blood elf girl gets on vent and she has a voice like Mr T? Does that grate? A bit.

so i take it no one on these forums has had male charecters playing as female charecters but pretending to be real females in game to get ahead faster ?????? to me this is exploiting  the game mechanics cheating other users out of their own enjoyment of the game and well basically preying on the already socially challenged men in the world who dont have as much luck trying to get hitched as the next man.   IT HAPPENS ALOT.. lmao some chick/dude tried it on with me in swg eveonline guildwars , im telling you its everywhere.. blokes playing female chars but makeing it known they are blokes is fine, but blokes playing female chars then pretending to be female people too is a little bit disturbing. especialy if your a straight guy and your being hit on in game by some digital misrepresentation of a female played by a man trying to be a female.

it certainly creeps me out thats for sure.  it makes want to demand that games developers have male gendewrs female genders and transvestite genders in their games from now on.  and think about it.

and dont go flooding me with its "NORMAL!!!" remarks because its really notr normal. if it was normal i would want to be a dude in a skirt too.  this is in no way meant to be offencive to the irish or scottish people of the world or any other skirt wearing bloke. so before you all go off on a flameing forum rampage i have one thing to say to you all!!!!  "KEEP YOUR NICKERS ON"!!!

    LMAO

ok first things first - any self respecting real man, wouldnt work in an office unless he owns the company, office work is usualy the place for women so skirts are acceptable on that occasion only

2nd if bob came into my work place wearing a skirt, he would more than likely be sent home after a few hours of fun and enjoyable abuse from the rest of the male workers. (it would be passed off as a co-worker having a bit of fun)

3rd yea it really does affect a straight guy knowing that their is a slightly strange bloke that wears girls cloths in the next bay , it means the effected individual will be looking over his shoulders for the duration. also some men will feel inclined to walk round said work place with their backs to the walls, im no genius but that doesnt sound very efficient for a work place.

and 4th yes it will probably be   the main attraction for the day resulting in  more disruption in the work place.

if the prrtty elf states shes a guy before she gets on vetn the grateing doesnt grate at all, because the guys know its a guy.  if the pretty elf comes on vent claiming to be a girl but refuses to talk then sure that grates alot. and the same can be said for old ladies trying to be young ladies, no one likes to hear a nice voice whih sounds hot to only discover that nice voice is like 70 years old. it happens too. while she is probably a nice old lady with great familly values, the deception doesnt go down too well with real men.

i have a saying, if you want to be gay then be gay and be proud of what you are and dont look back, being gay in todays moddern world is acceptable and sometimes a cool thing. but for the love of god, dont get upset when some one calls you gay,  because if you do get upset from being called a gay, then maybe being a gay isnt for you.

ive alwasy been puzzled why gays take offence to being called a gay, i thinks its strange that that offends them because at the end of the day they are what they are.... "gay"

i dont mind gay people so long as they dont try it on with me and make it clear they are bent before we actualy get on first name basis. i dont want to give any one the wrong impression and gay men are far easily confused than women are!!

im probably going to get a warning for this lol haha oh well!!

Man, if I knew people would be creeped off by guys RPing females, I would definitely have RP'ed a female by now... Just for some giggles. :)

I have female and male characters.  I also have gender neutral characters (Atrox in AO for one).

I also have dwarf characters ( i also know many dwarf characters - NONE of which are played by actual dwarves!)

I've also met ogres played by humans and barbarians played by jews.

They are fictional characters.  For many years, writers have been writing fiction both about and from the point of view of other sexes, other races and even inanimate objects.  I don't see why it matter.

For one, I know a lot more about how the opposite (human) sex behaves than I know about how an Elf or a Gnome behaves.

In all seriousness, I think the above sums it up pretty well for a lot of people. Personally I've never seen my avatar as an extension of myself: They don't look like me, act like me and I assure you they don't fight like me - which would make them, uh, not so competitive against dragons! :)

It is not so much that your avatar is an extension of yourself but rather that you should identify with him/her. Be it movies or games, the creator of such games want the audience to identify, on some level, with a character. That is why you so rarely see a movie with only bad guys because not so many people will want to identify themselves with one.

So I would say that men who plays a female character identifies themselves, on some level, with a women.

  • AvatarBladeAvatarBlade Member UncommonPosts: 757

    How about this mmo?

    1. You can only play human race, unless you can prove that you are an elf, gnome etc irl.

    2. Game connects to the database of your countries police network and checks if you are male or female.

2*. Should you choose to play the opposite sex, you are agreeing to having “homosexual” or “lesbian” before your name.

    3. Class system should again be linked to what you do in real life. Want to be a healer? Hope you’re a doctor. Want to be a warrior? Hope you’re in the army.

    4. Crafting of course should also follow the rule above. Only people that work in construction, tanneries, cloth factories etc  should be able to be crafters.

Yes, all mmos should be like this, so people can no longer lie to me about who and what they are in real life! What better way to identify yourself with your character?

Some games just have better looking women models then men ...

Like, WoW's Humans, im sorry but the men look like shaved monkeys as to the women looking like actual women.

And even with the Dwarf's, the men look better then women,  ive met some girls who play male dwarves.

It all depends on the games art style and which sex they make look better really ..

PS - All mammals have nipples.

    Get over it already.
