EVE is good, but certainly not #3. I'd put it somewhere in the teens myself. But, just the fact that Fallout 3 is even on that list proves that PC Gamer readers don't know what a good game is.
The funniest is CCP did not ever released any specific numbers related to alt accounts...
There was a post saying about 19% of the accounts were alts back in 08 but who the hell knows if that number is lower or higher now.

And new players don't have alts. Older players tend to have a few alt accounts. But 50% alt accounts are impossible.

I can see it being one of the most innovative games ever but no way one of the greatest pc games ever. There are far too many popular games who had millions play their games. CCP only has 300k for a reason, a game made by programmers for programmers. Don't get me wrong it is not a knock on the game but noway would it even crack the top 20 list of all time great pc games.
The irony of this statement is that someone could easily say that the quanity of votes needed to get EvE ranked #3 does not equal it being a quality game.
I'm not knocking EvE but I think its pretty clear by looking at this list that there are issues with the list... Just looking at how certain games jump around from where they were rannked last year is a pretty good indicator of flaws in this poll. This is kinda like the issues regarding the MMORPG.com top rated lists on the front page.

I don't think the number of people that play any given game necessarily reflects the quality of that game. Popular games can be amazing sure, but it's not the rule.

Interesting. Yet only about 300k gamers actually play Eve where as 11 million people play WoW.
Seems like alot of people like Eve on paper but not actually playing it. I for one love Eve on paper, sandbox, FFA PvP, real economy, but actually playing it is just boring...
Don't get me wrong, I hate WoW, yet it strikes me odd that Eve is voted so high yet so few actually plays it.

I also love Eve on paper, and it really is a great game and they deserve this imo, Ive tryed the game a few times, and the combat really turns me off i try really hard to like it but i just cant. But i love everything else about the game.
I think it speaks volumes about the quality of game that Eve is that even despite its niche status and relatively low player base it wins awards after awards. This to me says that Eve has earned the admiration of people who don't even play the game. When a game can do that it clearly belongs on that list of top games.
When I go to a WoW forums and explain why Cataclysm is a missed opportunity, why the "polish" isn't true about wow when they release patches full of bugs (ensidia issue?), etc. they don't treat that as an "insult" an "attack" but understand what the oppinion means, and doesn't reply with personal attacks.
If you have your oppinion about eve some players take it personal and respond with personal attacks, I think they can reconnect and delete cookies once in every 3 minutes to vote and make sure eve is on the top, since it is personal matter for them. THAT is the difference with online votes advertised to these people.

(just over 600 days played since it's 11/2004 launch) In that time the most profound fact I have learned about the WoW community is that you simply cannot post on the official forums without being "flamed," or insulted, for your opinion. As with all facts of life, there are exceptions to this; although, this is without question the WoW forum standard.

Honestly EvE is completely great on paper and the potential for awesomeness like large scale fleet engagements and corporate espionage and piracy etc. etc. all the great things this game does are potentially awesome...
but in my experience playing it, you spend the vast majority of your time gathering resources and running missions... over and over and over and over...
and even if you set out with a dozen or so corp mates looking for some great PvP and trouble... you usually
A) run into random players and just gank the sh!t out of them with no real fight....
don't find anything
C) give up and go back to mining/missions after a few hours of A and B
I found it very rare to find the "good stuff."
Comparatively, I can log into WoW and do some Arena matches which are always a pretty fair and challenging fight at higher ratings, I can join up some BG's and usually have some good and epic back and forth matches, and on my server things are pretty balanced so doing Wintergraps is always exciting and fun because we really do change hands quite often, no one side dominates...
I mean... I definitely understand the appeal of EvE, it appeals to me greatly, there is something tangible and very exciting about the freedom and the open galaxy...
But I'm getting old and I like having fun, and usually if we don't find any fun battles I don't even run missions/mine anymore I just log off and go play WoW for my quick PvP fix.
Maybe I need a good corp? A bigger alliance? Something.. but... still...

My feeling excactly, beside that I go to WAR and not WoW to get my PvP fix. Eve is simply too much of an undertaking to get to the "fun" stuff. In WAR I log in and within minutes Im into some fun PvP. In Eve I need to look for HOURS to find some action and even then it is often over before you even know it.

100% agree. Go make a thread on the official forums for something as simple as a relatively low item level pvp weapon outside of arenas and see how many "BG Heroe scrub baddie" flame posts you get. Make a simple suggestion for any class to boost or nerf any single aspect and see how many "lol nice arena ratings bro" "l2play n00b" posts you get. The official forums are the most horrid forums I have ever seem, I would read them often but I never once posted on them because I saw all the crap that people posted on there.

It worked in that people voted and the votes were counted, totaled and a list was produced. I'm sorry that you're butt hurt that I pointed out that EvE being ranked #3 was not in any way shape or form an indicator of its quality (i.e. it being better than the games listed).
As I pointed out with my comment regarding the MMORPG.com ratings any online poll is hugely open to abuse. It doesn't take much effort to search around for fansite posts asking people to go vote for EvE and I'm sure the adamant supporters were more than happy to vote more than once. This poll is useless and meaningless as soon as it is abused.
If this list were an accurate sampling of the overall gaming market (you know like how polls are supposed to be), and not just an exercise in seeing how many times the same group of people can vote on something, then EvE (The highest ranked MMO in the list) would have far more subs than it does now.
If you can't understand the flaws and issues with this poll then you should probably just keep your personal attacks to yourself because all you've managed to do it get another, more descriptive, post on how this poll is meaningless and doesn't accurately reflect anything.
I play eve and I know that it's definately not for the masses, as the pace for some of the game(I love to mine, I must be insane) is slow. But getting a rating like #3 is because in all the tallied votes eve was high, I can find no fault in eve except for the whole "a game for people who like spreadsheets". It's quality and the game is always getting new content boosts for free. The economy in eve is what I wish we had in other mmo's. Lots of people recognize eve for what it is, a great mmo but the style of play and even the genre is for some something they can't get interested in but they understand quality.
