Hmm, I think it's just a service which grants you acess to the warehouse with mobile devices.
It doesn't say anywhere you can buy stuff with real cash.
I.
I think he meant the App costs $2.99...at least is what I understand from it

You pay for the service with real cash. The service allows you to work the AH away from your computer. I'd call that an in-game advantage.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
So where exactly is the advantage? You're accessing an in game function and buying/selling in game items.
I would like to hear how someone has an advantage of selling an item (with the same cost) through an iphone app vs me selling the item in the auction house in game.
Well that's just complete bs!
What difference does it make if a player uses his Desktop/Laptop-wow-interface to access the ah or this mobile interface?
He just has more "spots" to access the ah, doesn't give any in-game advantage whatsoever.
Unless you have a different meaning for in-game advantage.
Mine is: getting gear with uber stats bought with real money.
I
ya, thats like saying "the guy with a laptop has an advantage over a Desktop user...."
It's a client for people that want to access the game from a different platform. By your logic, playing from a laptop while away from home is an in-game advantage. The guy with the laptop is actually at more of an advantage than the mobile guy because he doesn't have to pay for an additional client and he has full access to the game instead of limited auction house access.
Are you suggesting they should give away the alternative client for free or are you saying that the game should not be playable on anything other than a desktop Mac or PC?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh barf. Hi WoW remote auction house.
So... Its an in-game advantage to buy a new client for $3 bucks that has severely limited access to the game?
Wow, that is... wow *speechless*

I don't play WoW anymore but I know for damn sure i'd sell more crap on the AH if i could track my sales from work on my iphone easily . Every time I get undercut by some douchebag I can re-price it from anywhere. So in that small sense maybe its an advantage who knows? Though a crappy wow-iphone hack has been out for a while now that allowed this very same service for free. Blizzard will do ANYTHING to keep you running the gerbil wheel.

Hmm, a little torn on this.
It's not exactly egregious, but the way I'm looking at it now, if I were in a place that I couldn't install WoW (work, library, whatever) but paid an extra $3 a month, I could use the AH in places I normally wouldn't be able to.
On the other hand, I could technically do that if I had my own laptop with WoW installed on it. This just seems to be the cheaper of the two options, at least in the short run. I don't think this is a violation of game ethics, but it is rather close, and I'm wary to see what else Blizzard plans to monetise.
You always carry your phone with you.
AH farmers will be checking the AH much more frequently.
So if before you could buy / bid / sell at lower / higher prices by just being lucky that your competition was offline,
and unable to check AH, now you wont be. People with the app will have an advantage IMO.
But then of course, are you really that bothered about what happens to the AH outside of actually playing the game? Me - no at all.
Make sense?

The only thing that is annoying to me is that we have to pay (I understand that is not a huge amount but still add all up), to use a functionality that the game offers already and we are paying for the monthly sub. But I don't think it's game breaking.

No one thing they sell will be game-breaking. I am sure they will be careful about that.
It will all add up, though. The more perks and bonuses they sell, the less of the game you will get for just the sub fee.

One or the other, but preferably the latter. Does equality between players in the game mean nothing to you?

Babysteps. Step by little step.
How is it that they train new horses? You have to first let them get used at your touch and voice, gradually going further until they let you ride them?
Ah well, it'll be a nice influx of cash, I guess there'll be enough who will be eager to use it. This is going to be interesting btw, I'm wondering what the next few cash options will be, it becomes sort of a guessing game :-)

Is there an achievement for using the app? I kid, I kid.
I am a bit mixed on this. Personally, I don't really bother with the AH anymore. I mean, between heirloom gear for alts and going to guild members for any crafting, I don't have any needs. I really didn't know there was any demand for something like this. But, if you are going to offer something like this it should be a free app making it equally available to all existing customers. That's just my opinion though.

Keep in mind that not all players have iPhones or any other phone which could use this technology. Even if it was free, it would create 'haves' and 'have-nots'.

They might as well ban laptops from playing WOW. what an in-game advantage laptops have, they can be used anywhere and can watch the Auction house all the time without having to pay for the application. If for some reason you have a problem with people getting to much of an advantage over you then leave the game, because apparently now you cant be the best because someone bought an app to do what you can do now.
Next on their list - Queue from Anywhere. Queue from your iPhone or the web and the server puts you in the dungeon with other Que'ers and /rolls decide the outcome of boss fights and loot distribution. Now you can idle through dungeons from anywhere.
There was a demand of sorts. I had a friend or two that all they did was farm stuff and sell it for auction. Then they would buy other sellers items and reprice them etc etc. They were especially active around the holidays like the small eggs and other items for the Christmas recipes. When this was announce some months ago as a possiblity they were quite happy. Others said it would screw with the game economy but I have no idea. While I am mostly ambivilant to this. There is something that has a bad tone to this but I cant quite place my finger on it.
Such a scary thought but I would not put it out of the realm of possibility with Blizzard anymore.
A man or "gamer" should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.
I can see your point, but that leads to the dead end where they can never expand there game beyond it's existing platform unless their customers have 100% adoption of that other platform. I don't necessarily agree with this point. I think if a reasonable effort is made to make the application available to a large portion of the player base, without the added fee, then that is adequate. This might mean making an iPhone, BlackBerry, WindowsMobile, etc version of the app.
Overall, I like the idea of unboxing the game from client a bit and think that could actually lead to something innovative if they can keep from getting distracted by the money grab. Not that I expect that to happen

Not just the iPhone app, they also have a web interface. Since it isn't an iPhone/mobile device only innovation I'm not sure why people are complaining about an in-game advantage since access to the web is fairly ubiquitous unless you're on a desert island or a top secret government facility. There's nothing that would prevent you from using this from work, school, or other restrictive network that only allows web access, or from computers you don't have full access to install WoW. It would also allow you to alt-tab to a browser window to check auctions or the AH while you're doing other in game activities like fishing, raiding, dungeoneering, etc. And this is something 'most' people could do, it isn't just for iPhone owners.
