but ill wait to see it myself, cause im so fuckin in love with the star wars universe and biowares games that i will buy it. then kick myself in the face when it turns out to suck like every other game in the universe
Just don't do it.
BTW, lots of games don't suck - they just aren't MMOs.

so, when it comes to the group play and how the different decisions of players made will be incorporate we still don't know anything yet.
my guess it will be pseudo-instanced - only people of a certain "moral-level" or whatever it is/will be called can group for certain key-quests, whereas there won't be a difference for average "fedex" quests. A bit like wow-phasing from nothrend.
I can wrap my mind around story driven MMO (I have played one for 6 years) but the devs of that game didn't tell me "fighting many monsters alone is heroic, fighting with your friends isn't heroic!".
Their statements keep contradicting each other. It seems as if they want to include everything for everyone in this game. We know how that tends to turn out. Lackluster for everyone, good for no one.
If they want to make a solo game, so be it. I don't mind. If they want to make a grouping game, so be it, I don't mind. But right now they're not being clear about their intentions. It is confusing.
Find me that quote, or actually don't bother, because you can't.
Why not? Because they didn't say that.
They did say: "We don't find a group of people fighting one monster heroic, what is heroic, is fighting against an overwhelming number of mobs or against overwhelming odds.".
Nowhere "fighting with your friends isn't heroic" was ever said.
Facts, get them straight.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
I won't even bother reading the article from the one quote you linked, safety. Thanks. This game is not meant to be revolutionary,
It's not? News to me.
No, it's not, because BioWare isn't stupid. They aren't going to make a "revolutionary" game that could potentially flop. They're going with tried-and-true design concepts while adding their own twists.
BioWare may call adding a story emphasis "revolutionary," but we all know it's not. If you go into this game thinking it's going to be radically different, as the guy in the OP's link seemed to do, you will be disappointed. Simple as that. Which is why I didn't waste my time reading his pointless opinions.
"Nearly a year after the game's reveal BioWare is yet to explain just how plot decisions will be made when you've got a group of players all pulling in different directions. Who will decide which dialogue option to choose in a key cutscene?"
I thought they explained that ages ago?
They did. The guy obviously has weak search-fu.
Anyway, was anyone expecting this game to be revolutionary? Apart from the stories and the "flashpoints" and the vioce acting, I expect this game will probably use every single MMO convention we've already seen.
I expect Bioware is doing things like Blizzard did with WoW back in the day: Use all the regular "tried and true" MMO conventions, but with a huge degree of polish and refinement. I see this game as evolutionary, not revolutionary.
If a revolution in MMO game design is what people are looking for, then I think they'll be sorely dissapointed. I, for one, will be having great fun with SWTOR while those who had unrealistic expectations will be crying into their corn flakes.

"You often have scenarios in which you have multiple heroes beating on a single enemy. And that just isn't very heroic. What Is heroic is a hero facing against unbeatable odds against multiple enemies and fighting his way barely through the encounter."
(At the same time the video shows one character fighting against multiple mobs).
No one ever said SW TOR won't be based on WoW realm either, but it most probably won't be. Same thing here. It's no wonder people are skeptical. They should think about what they say (and show us on the damn video at the same time) if they don't want us to look at it the wrong way. Right now it's not looking good.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Isn't it a little early to be saying that, or are only negative comments required to be backed with solid evidence?

The only thing they said would be revolutionary is the story, the voice acting, and choosing the direction the plot takes. That's pretty much it. Everything I've read makes me think that the rest of the stuff will be standard MMO elements found in pretty much every other MMO.

If they storylines are anything like KOTOR and as involved as Bioware says, then I know I'll have fun at least playing the 8 different class storylines all the way through. I'm really not worried about an auction house, because I never use them unless they are actually useful; endgame, since I find most MMOs to have super boring endgames and I never bother anyway; crafting will only hold my attention if it's a super fun crafting game, like Fallen Earth or Everquest II, if it's like WoW's I'll probably avoid it; if there's some sort of badge hunting system like City of Heroes I'll probably do that; PvP, quite frankly I suck at PvP, so getting ganked 50 times and killing someone once is not my idea of fun at all, so there's another avoid for me.
At the moment, I intend to buy the game, set up my computer in the same room as my brothers, make characters, form a party and play through the storyline. I'm hoping the storyline will be fun and entertaining, and if it is I'll fully consider the game to be a complete win for me.
As always, we'll have to wait and see, but I am starting to have a sinking feeling. More explicitly, a feeling that this is really just yet another MMO with the same gameplay we are so used to, i.e. questing.
The same feeling struck me when I first saw gameplay footage.
I just might be done with the typical MMO questing gameplay. The news of GW2 having something quite different - the dynamic events system - has grabbed, and I mean really GRABBED, my interest.
I don't expect that TOR is going to change the way we game or really the way that mmo's are designed, that's to say yes I'm fairly certain if you have ever played an mmo picking it up will not be something new to you but I think what they will do is ambitiously reach as Blizzard before them. To me TOR is the first game being developed since WOW that you can actually trust you will truly get an epic experience out of which to me is saying alot in comparison to the rest of the mmo field since Blizzard entered the fray.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
From all I've read so far about the game I believe Bioware would be much much happier making a single player RPG. All the "revolutionary" mechanics they got in there are just attempts to twist a single-player RPG experience into a MMO paradigm (read "monthly subs"). It is almost like they have this wonderful grand vision of the game they want to make but this pesky "multiplayer" thing keeps getting in the way.
so, when it comes to the group play and how the different decisions of players made will be incorporate we still don't know anything yet.

*shrugs* we will see.
Actually, they said that each player can choose at the flashpoint and then there will be a roll to see which choice gets used if each character chose differently. The choice that ultimately gets chosen does not have a negative effect on the rest of the party, because your character tried to make the choice you wanted originally and was just overridden. So if your friend chooses a dark side option and you're playing a light side character you won't get dark side points for it.
Find me that quote, or actually don't bother, because you can't.

Didn't say "Fighting with your friends isn't heroic." did it. But sure if you completely rip it out of context.
Skepticism is fine, but professional reviewers should be consistent with their skepticism, otherwise you're just bitching.
As Xondar noted above, the guy didn't even do his research.
Also, find me a 'revolutionary' game that doesn't suck. Wake me up when the earth ends.
Evolution is descent mith modification, it's the same thing in MMO's.

Actually, they said that each player can choose at the flashpoint and then there will be a roll to see which choise gets used if each character chose differently. The choise that ultimately gets chosen does not have a negative effect on the rest of the party, because your character tried to make the choice you wanted originally and was just overridden. So if your friend chooses a dark side option and you're playing a light side character you won't get dark side points for it.
That doesn't really sound like something that'd encourage group play... The opposite, actually.

Fair enough, but I just don't see a lot of interest in doing flashpoints when they can go against your wishes. I think the great majority of players will prefer to solo them - to get the result they want.

Not very good article. He shoudl have focused on what he saw and experienced rather than what he did not. I have noticed the same thing with Eurogamer recently. It almost seems that they think it is "cool" to raise all sceptisism and play an old fashioned doomcryer instead of focusing on facts at hand.
Few things to remember:
1. Many players would be happy if this would be no more than KOTOR 3.
2. There might not be monthly subscriptions or it could be optional.
3. We have only seen fraction of content and systems Bioware is putting to this game.
Regardless of whining, like in the article, I think Bioware has done the right thing by not making promises they cannot keep. The mistake many past MMOs have done.

And what about extra exp for grouping? I'm sure you'll find a way to twist it and say it doesn't encourage group play just because it's TOR.

Why? There might be some fun in purposely joining a party with people who are the opposite alignment from you. I imagine we'll see a lot of "LFLSG" (Looking For Light Side Group) or "LFDSG" (Looking For Dark Side Group) in the looking for group channel. Though it doesn't penilize you for playing with people from the opposite side at all.
Though, I suppose they could just dumb down the game and make all decisions for the Republic side light side decisions and all the decisions for the Sith side dark side decisions. Personally, I don't see the attraction in that.
But please, explain why it doesn't encourage group play.
