I've been playing for 1.2 years and AV has screwed me out of my time investment 4 times now. Some of us original Darkfall players have spent so much time developing our chars, only to have AV make a patch that makes it 10x easier or handing out advantages that took several months to attain.
its not about 1v1 its about not losing just b/c you are outnumbered by 1. Only ignoramuses actually think most vets go around killing newbs all day. losing just b/c you are outnumbered nomatter how bad the opponents are leaves the realm of challenging pvp and enters the realm of skilless gameplay.
I don't mind losing to two guys that put forth half the effort as me or even two guys who put forth 1/4th of the effort but for two guys who have put 1/10th of the effort into developing their characters to easily beat me, it sucks and it makes me feel like this game is no longer competitive enough for me.
There is always someone who wants less grind than you, "why should their needs be denied?" is what you equally selfish people are saying. Don't you think there comes a point where the game lacks challenge? well it lacks challenge for me and a lot of people like me already and maybe someday they will make something so easy that you thought didn't need to be made easier and you may think "hey, thats welfare gaming! It wasn't that hard, they are cating to whiney babies who can't handle putting effort into their characters" and then there will be people on the forums saying its for the good of the game when in fact, they are killing it and driving away its base.
AV has caved to the whiners and this means they will continue to cave.
Its like being in a yearlong weightlifting competition and training for 12 months and then they change the rules and start giving the new competitors steroids and attactching weights to those who actually put forth the effort.
someday you people may wish you could 2v1 for all the time you have invested into your character but you wil never be able to because everyone has 450 hp and you can't possibly go through all that HP before two guys go through yours.
soloing in Darkfall is dead, character progression as part of the competition is also dead and they are allowing the noobs and whiners to compete with the best and that is the reason that I don't play WoW.
Time for this competitive gamer to start looking for another game.
Thanks for the great times AV, its a shame you didn't learn the lesson that SWG had to learn about what happens when you cater to that vocal minority of whiners and bads.
"I'm glad that people are going to be more competitive a lot quicker, but honestly it kinda sucks that anybody that has put zero effort into their character can just naked rush you with 400 HP and a melee weapon. Fighting outnumbered is going to be a pain in the ass."
Quoted for truth from DF forums. GG AV. The winers will just move onto the next thing and you will continue to piss off your base.
retorts:
I dont dispute that the majority like it for the most part since most didn't have maxed stats and it was only a very small minority of the players who put for the effort to max stats who really got screwed by this since the last 3-6 months or so of developing their HP was for naught but if DF is really a sandbox, it needs to have solo pvp too and the patch really killed that.
I can deal with all the welfare gaming up to this point but this latest patch really makes solo pvp rediculously hard b/c only a mage is really viable against those who know what they are doing in that situation and the AOE nerf, (which greatly hurts a mages ability to kill a blocking opponent) combined with the HP boost made it rediculously hard to kill someone if there is another guy attacking you and that really sucks if you enjoyed soloing, which was one of the greatest aspects of UO that has been missing from pvp mmorpgs lately.
when they start giving steroids to the crybabies b/c they don't want to do any character progression when the game has such a large untapped populace its a shame b/c the people who have been around since the beggining and worked to develop their characters so they wouldnt get owned everytime they saw two guys will probably be put off by this and may even quit.
the game was part of the competition and now its turning into CS with full loot and sieges. Not competitive enough for me when they have to increase character progression 4x b/c the masses can't deal with it. Devs got greedy, its really a shame for those who loved DF the way it was. It seems like they have given up on their vision and are now working towards mass appeal. GFG AV, GFG.
many of these children think that DF is a 1v1 game apparently. They cannot seem to comprehend that there needs to be a solo pvp playstyle that is able to beat 2v1 at least or competitive gamers will say fuck this and play CS b/c its not fun losing to idiots just b/c they outnumber you by 1, that is WoW.
And all shall fall by the grace of the people - anon

Sucks to have the newer players catching up after you cheated the game for 1+ years huh? lol
Me thinks its time for you to find another MMO... muahaha

Has the meaning of "hardcore" changed to I'm a unskilled newb that can only kill new players?
If so then yes, don't play DF.

This patch will bring more people back to the game than it will drive off. The ones that it drives off are people like you, so no one cares. Goodbye.
Wow. You got his ass good.
Lol.
Shouldn't fighting outnumbered be a pain in the ass? I mean really, who goes into a battle thinking, you know, if we could just be outnumbered that would make this even easier.
Good luck on finding your next game. Honestly, you can't have it both ways. You either will have a low populated game where an elite few are super-powerful to the point where nobody new will want to join the game, or the elite will have to give up a little power to make the game vastly more accessible and attractive for newer people to want to start. I'd rather have a higher populated world with more compeition and activity , than an empty world where a powerful few fight over a wasteland.

All games change.. Playing a game from day 1, and expecting everything to be as it was on day 1 over a year later is akin to believing in the tooth fairy..
Oh..
Can I have your stuff??

You call yourself a competitive gamer and then you whine about the fact that newer players will be able to compete with you. Do you truly not see the irony in that?
Darkfall's number one problem is (and has always been) the fact that newer players don't feel that they can compete soon enough. It is the main reason that 90% (possibly more) of all new players leave after the first 3 months. AV knows this and will continue to tweak things until their game starts retaining more new blood.
Those of you who are steadily losing SOME of your massive advantage over newer players will have to start competing more based on your actual player (not character) skill if you want to keep playing this game. It still has one of the very biggest grinds of any MMORPG that has ever been made and you vets still have a massive advantage over new players... your whining is pathetic.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
What can I say Mr.Lumps.
It doesn't matter how a gaming company in the online industry try to cater to one specific crowd. Eventually they will have to "cave in" as you put it.
We're in 2010 now, wake up, smell the flowers, look around, nice isn't it?
People don't fancy grinding their butts off anymore in such a style like they need to do in Darkfall, most find it rather pointless and not fulfilling at all, me included.
I've got a friend that is quite the hardcore player type, he played Darkfall for 3 weeks then at the end he said screw this crap I'm bored to death and eventually left.
What so many people fail to realise is that for todays community of a hardcore setting, there isn't enough players around to keep a company rolling, simple as.
While you might read this and think of me as a twat that don't understand a thing.
Realize two things:
Darkfall's community has done nothing but dwindle from the very start.
You should have seen this coming, it's only a matter of time before changes has to be made regarding games like these.
You're contradicting yourself, if the socalled whiners are just going to move on to the next thing, they won't be around any longer, then you can just keep playing, right?
It's just one of those things I find so silly when it comes to many people in general. Say I spend 3 months to get something and look at it as an achievement. Then they make changes to the game so people can get it in 1 months time. I should be happy for the people that gets an easier ride and don't have to put up with the long-winded crap.
I'm not gonna start being angry about it, I don't see a point in that.
But as soon as something like that happens in a game, most people go omgbananas.
So you just want to be able to roll around the countryside solo spanking down new players then? Do you honestly think if a server is filled with people with a mindset of that, that the new players are gonna hang around? Hardly... Ha ha ha hardly...
And without new players, Aventurine isn't gonna get very far.
Like I said, open your eyes, think about the broader picture. This isn't just about the hardcore players or you, it's a world filled with loads of people that think and plays differently. As things are nowadays, the hardcore type of people are so few, that they aren't able to properly pay for a MMORPG to stay in business. Yes, that's what I believe out from all the things I've seen go down up over the years.
Lastly, for the setup Darkfall has, skillwise and all, it's so boring with the speed I know the game had at release that I wouldn't understand why even a dead zombie would sit and play it, but hey, that's just my opinion.
I suppose I'm the type of person that ruins your wonderful "hardcore" game(s).
The people and the friends that we have lost, and the dreams that have faded, never forget them~
its about not losing everytime you have to fight more than one guy. think before you post.

Not feeling much sympathy for the OP and I applaud AV for taking steps to ensure the game has a decent chance of prospering, because without a steady stream of new players, MMO's wither and die.
Maybe the OP would have preferred they make it F2P with a cash shop?

But there are more of the instant gratification types than there are 'dedicated' customers. Translation: AV makes more money. Are we understanding yet?
Well OP, if it drives you and people like you away, I can say that I'm actually more inclined to give DF a shot someday. But I do apologize that you might not be able to slaughter newbies by the thousands quite so easily anymore, it must be a devastating blow to your e-peen.
Goodbye, and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
That's just how it is, if 3 people have the exact same amount of skill, then 2 of those 3 people gang up against the third one. The third one will lose most if not all of the times, unless he gets quite lucky or one of the two others is a very bad player.
Isn't Darkfall supposed to be a guild PvP game though? Where hordes of people fight hordes of people? At least I thought so.
Edit: I rest my case on this topic though, this isn't anything more then a dumb discussion that will lead nowhere.
The people and the friends that we have lost, and the dreams that have faded, never forget them~
Instant gratification types generally don't play full loot games, their gearz means too much to them. This move will attract PvP players who enjoy a more level playing field.

The problem I have with "hardcore" pvp games, is the players attitudes.
I remember in the first months of UO, you could stand in a crowded place and get in a fight with someone and no one would jump in to unbalance it. People genuinely wanted the challenge of a 1v1, and others enjoyed watching the challenge.
Modern playerbase is all about ganking, fighting only when they outnumber the other players, or fighting only when they have significantly higher levels/skills/gear/advantages over the other players.
For that reason there will never be a highly populated "hardcore" pvp game ever again. The majority of players don't want to play in gankfest games, and where people only fight with cowardice, it just plain isn't fun. So either Darkfall can stay a tiny game or it can try and expand its audience a bit. But it can't be a "hardcore" pvp game and have a good sized playerbase, it will not happen.
the game didn't have a box version on shelves yet. So many people hadn't even heard of DF yet. I disagree that it would be a wasteland if all those who would enjoy DF knew about it. It is a shame gamefeels the need to cater to these instant gratification babies. Blizzard will win in that department when they make their FPS and copy this model, they should have kept it a niche game.
It was nice that you didnt have to have perfect aim b/c a lot of people that didn't have amazing aim with 50 ping and could compete and aimbots were useless. Look how broke the game is now b/c of them listening to the whiners, wall of force and g15 macrod rays w/ aimbot FTW.

lol.......... it will likely start bringing back some of the PvP'rs considering the PvP'rs left when the game revolved around ganking newbs that presented no challenge. I know I did and many long time PvP clans did. PvP is about competition not camping players that have no chance at fighting back.
At launch things were great (Balance wise) because everyone was on the same footing. Advantage was minimal, which made the whole thing fun. Later the toon "level" gave such an advantage that it became fairly boring.
But this is just from a DFO vet
In any case, yes this is a step towards bringing new players to the game and old players back. It seems it's inadvertently also weeding out the less desirables which is just another big plus lol.

The current playerbase of hardcores (lol) is TINY, and getting smaller all the time.
The likely alternative to AV finally buying a clue and changing the game is the eventual shutdown due to lack of subs.
Which would you prefer?
Darkfall has a monumentally idiotic setup: meaningless flagging rules, no skill cap, a lack of sandbox features. It'll remain a dying game unless AV makes some hard decisions and changes that'll keep more players, and attract new ones.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
I've played this game since the day it released, this is a good thing AV is doing. Leveling the playing field.
People who are a bit crappy at pvp like the OP will cry though.
Agreed 100%. OP is a bright example of what was wrong with DF for a long time. DF still needs a lot of fixing, but at least AV is moving in the right direction.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Nah, he had it right the first time.
People dont have to play the game to know that you watn ezmode kills.
No, instead of you ganking newbies and griefing them over, and over, and over, and over -which gets more boring by the day as you obviously are dying to get a better challenge- you get MORE newbies but they wil even be on your level faster to provide a bigger challenge then.
So, as a 'dedicated' PVP player, you should be celebrating this as you will get more targets of your own level, right?
