1 person: It might suck if it's like this... or this....
2nd Person: OMG No its not, its going to be epic. youre completely wrong, the space combat isnt like that all. You dont know what youre talking about.
Bioware: We're not going to talk about any details (yet again), but be sure to pick up a copy of this particular magazine we made a deal with to cover it exclusively.... 3 months from now.
"Of course, it would be pretty boring to have an entire galaxy packed with a handful of similar ships. To combat this, BioWare has created a robust customization package so that you can fully trick out your ship with premade gear sets or your own hand-picked items. Though BioWare isn't showing off the ships in action just yet, they assure us that there will be thousands of different variations so that each person can feel as if they have a unique vessel."
That still doesnt show how itll look in action. If your ship will be represented by looking at it from the outside? Or that you will be able to look from the inside.
I have difficulties trying to translate this in English, but in SWG you can walk through the interior of your ship while being in space(combat). A ship can have turrets that groupmembers can enter. A large gunship for example has multiple rooms that can be freely decorated and a lot of turrets. So your group can move freely inside the interior and when combat starts ppl walk over to the turrets etc, where they can look outside the ship from the turret.
While in STO you also have a ship interior, but its not used during spacecombat. During combat you see a smaller representation of your ship, which breaks immersion for me.
The STO way seems to be a lot easier to implement, but SWG way is more immersive imo.
Even if space combat is really limited at the start I must say bravo on the initiative to get it into the game on release Bioware. I am becoming more an more impressed with this game as the news rolls out.
In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various hot spots on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars space battles.
Remember Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic where the ship flew automatic and you were at the turret firing at enemy fighters, etc.? Yeah.

I'm still excited for SW:TOR none the less.
That would be totally lame if that's what they mean by space combat, however that alone won't deter me from checkin out this game.
When do we get to hear from all of those who whined and cried about the lack of space combat? Of course, now they'll shut up about that and pick something else to cry about.
Space Combat could be fun. It wasn't anything I was dissapointed about not having, so having it is just a little bonus.
The wording does make me a bit unsure, but we'll see details in time. And at least now we know that we will have space combat.
If only we got swoop racing with upgradeable parts, too. :P
What it says to me is, this isn't EVE online, it's not the games major focus, we do have more to share in regard to it though. That's really all I've taken away from this reveal, which was an expected one to be quite honest, at least for me.

WOOT! Thats what I'm talking abbout u know this will leave room for alot of grorth for the 1st expanstion. This MMO is going to be Epic just as Epic as me being a Member of the ToR site since Oct. 08 The longest I have ever put into a Game that isn't even out. I mean I haven't spant this much time on the Fourms or scan site's since while ever. WoW was a Great game I lost 5 years of my life to and a wife . I think this might be taking up at least that much time plus.
I expect that a lot of people who were bashing SWTOR because of "no space combat" will have to change their tune.
Exactly.
So many ppl around here jumping the gun and telling everyone how the game sucks because it doesn't have this or doesn't have that, when they just couldn't be patient and wait for the info to eventually come out, for heavens sake the game is a year away from release, your never going to get the full picture immediately the game is announced.
Perhaps now ppl will be less likely to moan and groan that SWTOR is lacking certain features, when in fact those "missing" features are being worked on.
Bioware: We're not going to talk about any details (yet again), but be sure to pick up a copy of this particular magazine we made a deal with to cover it exclusively.... 3 months from now.
Nope. Yes, its the october issue, but it'll be released middle of August.

You guys are all the same. You constantly barrage the TOR forums with how bad the game is going to be. But YOUR posts in particular are especially predictable. If the topic is TOR, you can be damn sure everything in your post will be about how bad it will be.
Every one of your posts is "this game isn't going to be as good as everyone thinks" or "it doesn't live up to Star Wars lore" or "SWG is better than TOR will be" or "there won't be space combat". And then, when there is space combat, "it won't be good! It won't be "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter". "Bioware sucks, all their games are bad." You sure have a lot of bad blood about EVERYTHING in this game. Like... literally EVERYTHING.
The difference between our groups? The excited people have something to be excited about right now because this is big news. You are just proving, yet again, that your group really has nothing better to do than attempt to dampen people's spirits with despondent and dejected outlooks on life.
I prefer my group, at least everyone is in high spirits. If the game happens to suck at launch, I'm glad I had the months prior to enjoy life rather than being a sad little ingrate.
This.
Haters that can see the world in nothing but drenched in negativity disgust me, as much IRL as on forums.
Even though fanboism isn't my thing, I do like the group that can be truly happy or enthusiastic about things more than the group that can do nothing but whine and flame and troll and get some warped satisfaction from that.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I hope the space combat is similar to that of SWG, I really enjoyed the fact that you could target areas of the ship to disable weapons or power.
This was the Best Space Combat out to DATE. The PoBs and PvP dogfights in your Ties where Epic. This is what I'm Pushing for but don't expect to see till at least the 1st expanstion. They was so worried about story and there Idea of what ppl wanted was far from what the ToR fans wanted. This was one reason starting a Site 2.4 years before launch is really going to help this game. If they would just get us the Space Format from SWG with a Wing Commander MMO I would be in seventh heaven hehe. I would be sit for the rest of my life then Nv end KotOR and the Fun cat killing spree of WC. But maybe this is just me hehe.
Please stop hyping this game. Every bit of hype will make it FAIL twice as hard than it would normally.
There is a Good side to that anyway - Once this game gets shunned by everyone upon launch due to being a wow clone, which ruined KOTOR franchise, Bioware will finally open up their eyes and develop KOTOR III, with actual NO WOW-ARTSTYLE, ACTUAL CHARACTERS and especially A STORYLINE WHERE WHAT YOU DID IN KOTOR I AND II ACTUALLY MATTERS, instead of huge piss at fans with "well your chars from those games are dead and failed, trolololo"

So I really don't get why the fanbois are celebrating already when they basically just got Facebook for space content.
Perhaps because no mmo, ever, has launched as fully voiced, with housing and space combat at the day of launch? doesnt that just show the ambition we need, with their financial backing?..just a thought..
Actually there has been. It's called EQ2, which is only filled with their niche fans now and barely surviving as a mmo anymore. VO's are last century and nothing new. The Hero engine is also like I pointed out is last century tech and is like flying a brick. If you tried APB, then you have an idea how not fun that is.
I felt a great disturbance in the force. It was as if millions of doomsayers suddenly cried out in embarrassment and were suddenly silenced.

Actually if anything, the space combat system only reveals truly how much of a cookie-cutter, linear game SWTOR is going to be. Some players so far are over looking that everyone will have the exact same ship depending on your faction only. The only customization there will be is the interior that has already been talked about.
Not to mention that this space content is separate from the main gameplay much like monster-play is in Lotro which equals no content. So I really don't get why the fanbois are celebrating already when they basically just got Facebook for space content. If BW wants to do space, they need to do it right and not with last-century's Hero engine for starters.
I'm glad you have given us your insight on how space combat will be, seeing that no one other than Bioware knows how it actually plays out.
I didn't post anything they didn't already say. It's just that too many fanbois are trying to hype up the release without actually reading what was said. All they read is space and combat without reading what was actually said.

That quote was taken from E3. What was said at comic-con is that you will be flying your personal housing ship in space combat and there are only two types right now like I said. I'm sure they will add more later, but by the sounds of it, not by launch.

Actually, at the comic-con this was being said 'you get to customise your starship'. I don't see how this counteracts their E3 revelations, it rather seems to complement it.
Your statements seem to be more off.
Further this was said:

Sounds good to me. Sure, it's no EVE Online, but who was realistically expecting EVE gameplay mechanics completely integrated in SW TOR?
Look, you hate SW TOR for some strange reason. Also, you don't like it being hyped for some reason. That's fine.
Just don't try to come up with some warped arguments or half-lies in order to prove your position.

And too many doubters trying to justify their own take on what they think space combat is. Read what the Comic-Con panel has to say, don't bother putting your own slant on something thats in black and white.
Still can't believe ppl are being negative when a huge bit of news hits us out of the blue, the doubters say "Wah wah, no space combat this sucks" Then we get space combat and the doubters respond" Wah wah, it's not EVE space combat, it's going to be a farce".
I'l bet if their neighbour won the lottery they would be the first ones to say "It will only bring them misery" only see the negative never the positives, makes you wonder why they even bother to stay playing MMO's if it's all doom and gloom.

It's just WAYYYY too damn early to be saying crap like that. Pretty much the only thing we know for sure is that space combat will be a separate thing from ground combat. But that's for balance perpasiss, among other things. They simply don't want players to be able to go to the surface of a planet with their ship(s) and blow the hell out of land players below. Or even to prevant massive lag for land combat players.
As for everything else you mentioned, it's all up in the air until the game officially launches. Nothing else yet has been set in stone.
Finally, about the whole "hero engine" thing, to be honest, you kind of lost me on that one. For one this game is going to be nothing like APB, I just have no flippin' idea where you got that connection.

This game will be so awesome, Subscription numbers will be huge! Hopefully, they will put a Eta-2 clone in. I love that spaceship.
