Great news, and renewed my interest in the game at least a little bit, will just have to see how it looks, what the combat will be like and if its actually done well or is just kind of thrown in there half assed. Im kind of worried with all their past talk of most likely not having space combat, now suddenly it's in... youve kind of got to wonder were they just basically playing the PR game to surprise us with this and get more attention to the game closer to launch, or was it that they saw all the dissappointment in there being no space combat as of yet so they said "Well we better throw something in there, even if its not great, just so more people will buy it since we have space combat now". Im hoping the latter isnt the case and it is well executed and fun.
Bioware have not announced any feature before they been sure it works as it should and is fun enough. That is actually good, I remember a few games that talked about features that never been implemented and might not work at all, like WAR.
I hope they nail this, Bioware are usually making fun games and it is a good feature to have in a game like this.
What's the worst thing that can happen? The game turning out bad?
Lighten up a bit fella's, it's a game afterall, it's entirely possible it could be bad, as is the chance any game can turn out bad. However bad is a subjective term that doesn't mean the same thing to every individual. Many people seem to like what JTL had to offer, others not so much. Just as for some X-wing is the definitive space faring experience, others not so much. It will be the same with TOR.
People are acting as though it's a crime to be excited for something.
I like pie so I get excited at the sight of a delicous looking pie, does every pie end up tasting terrific? Nope, that doesn't mean I should fear getting excited over a slice of delicous looking pie. In the end the worst thing that would happen is I don't like the taste of it, oh and I spent some coin on it. Money wasted? Oh noes, if I were that concerned about the money, I'd never buy anything.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
You have no clue what is gonna be. The same dev that worked on JTL has been working on the TOR space. You think these people would be dumb enough to come up with a bad mini game and hype it up so much to put it in a magazine?
If you don't know what you are talking about, please sit down.
Have you played the game?
Nope, right back at you, Chief.
There's your chair, over there. Don't fall down and hurt yourself. I mean, what with all that medical marijuana you're taking.
(Oh, and by the way. Jump to Lightspeed sucked. It wasn't even a 10th of the greatness that was the X-Wing / TIE Fighter series. So, way to inspire.)
Yes, I actually have had the pleasure to be in the beta test.
I was in Santa's Workshop last to, also.
Well, send my regards to mrs claus and I will watch my beta videos i made every day , and enjoy them. Knowing that they are for my eyes alone and you cannot see them.
"hot spots" yeah SWG did it better bummed which a game with such a large bugget you think they could expand the space combat beyond hot spots (or instances if you would rather) but hey who i am to say anything i will play the game and love it and at least this space combat will be better then the whole of STO...
It's funny how fans of other games will bash anything else, but if you say anything bad about their game they whine like puppies in a cage.
TOR looks like it's going to be a fun game. Do I know for sure? Nope. Will I buy it and play it? Yep. Will I buy and play other games too? Yep. Am I buying into the hype? Maybe a little, but if the hype wasn't there I probably wouldn't know about the game. I feel bad for those who feel they were burned by games like AoC and Warhammer. I bought both games and enjoyed them for a couple of months. I don't expect anything more. If you are looking for a game that's going to dominate your life and make you want to play it 24/7 you are going to be bound to run into disappointment, but it's no ones fault but your own.
Some us other posters that are being labeled as "haters" actually have a little bit of experience in talk out of their rear without a clue as to what they are saying just to hear themselves talk.
It really becomes obvious how certain features will turn out when you talk out of your rear without a clue as to what they are saying just to hear themselves talk.
Of course I like a good laugh though so thanks to those who talk out of their rear without a clue as to what they are saying just to hear themselves talk.
I fixed your post (using only your own words) to both make more sense and align with reality. The grammar suffered slightly, but overall it's a vast improvement.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I don't think at this point Space Flight has gone beyond internal testing at this point. So even if your in the beta most people dont know much about it. Can't wait to get my hands on some of the mechanics they've been working on lately.
I'm glad to see this but I hope this doesn't take away from the rest of the games development. I would rather have a well polished game at the start and then see something like this added later. Hopefully that isn't the case here.

What do I want to see? I want to see X-Wing the MMORPG. Is that what Bioware is bringing to the table? You tell me, Mr. All-Informed.

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt-Jk3TmodY is an early demo (early Alpha) presentation from an MMO called Universe Online made by a company named Colony Studios. They are using the HeroEngine like Bioware. This shows that this engine can produce a decent space combat experience. In my humble opinion ofc.
Well keeping fingers and toes crossed for the beta but here is something you might wanna checkout, in a perfect world this would be the moment where i would wet myself if this what if situation would happily occur in Cloud cuckoo land that is.
This is the best space engine i've had the pleasure to see sorry if some of u guys have seen this but imagine this procedural algorithmic engine married to SW TOR.

SWEET BOOTY. Despite some of my (justified) apprehensions about this game, the devs do continue to surprise me in good ways. And I believe this also to be a byproduct of listening to their fanbase on the forums (me since Oct 08). Lets hope this will be a deep enjoyable space game instead of just something shallow to appease people. And honestly, even if it is shallow at the beginning, I've always been happy with the idea of an expansion on space combat, so this is just added plus.
Wish I coulda been in this panel. My friend was, and said it was awesome.

And then get mad when the game isnt' what you thought it'd be.
What a repetitive group we have around here.
rofl. You're hilarious dude. You mock all the people who are hyped and excited for this game as being a repetitive group, and yet you yourself are looped in with a "repetitive group" of your own.
The Annoying Whiney TOR Trolls Crew.
You guys are all the same. You constantly barrage the TOR forums with how bad the game is going to be. But YOUR posts in particular are especially predictable. If the topic is TOR, you can be damn sure everything in your post will be about how bad it will be.
Every one of your posts is "this game isn't going to be as good as everyone thinks" or "it doesn't live up to Star Wars lore" or "SWG is better than TOR will be" or "there won't be space combat". And then, when there is space combat, "it won't be good! It won't be "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter". "Bioware sucks, all their games are bad." You sure have a lot of bad blood about EVERYTHING in this game. Like... literally EVERYTHING.
The difference between our groups? The excited people have something to be excited about right now because this is big news. You are just proving, yet again, that your group really has nothing better to do than attempt to dampen people's spirits with despondent and dejected outlooks on life.
I prefer my group, at least everyone is in high spirits. If the game happens to suck at launch, I'm glad I had the months prior to enjoy life rather than being a sad little ingrate.
I totally agree with every thing this man has just said.
I am so sick of hearing all the doomsday , naysayers when it comes to TOR or any new game for that matter. They always are on the forums crying about something, showing that they are truely bored with whatever game they are hailing as being any good or having a good system. Instead they choose to go flame newer games all day and wander how comes nobody wants to come out with anything good, or they all wind up failing.
Anyhow, That would depend on what you consider any good or failing. I like AION, AoC, and other games that people keep on calling failures, and i think they are fun. Stop crying all the time about a game, if you don't want to play it than don't , what is the point of posting on forum for a game you don't play, never have played, and never have any intention on playing. I only post on forums for games I have played, unless it is something that has caught my attention as being good or something I may like to play.
You guys are showing clips from another game. I know some games out there use the same engines (FPS for instance is very popular to do so). And so BioWare says it'll have space combat. Okay, that's cool, but AGAIN, they choose to provide no details that for quite a number of people, is a big deal.
For all I know their idea of space combat is a rail shooter.

They should provide some details, i'm not sure if it is a marketting strategy. Or they just don't know much themselves. I guess what they do is let people speculate all the want and then come out with bigger news that shocks people.

Hopefully they won't pull an STO. Boring space/land combat is something I don't wanna experience again. I will wait for a free trial. The days of buying MMOs at launch ain't working for me.
When this game blows donkey balls like all the other flopped MMOs that have come out recently I will laugh at all you fanbois. Look at GAION, Warhammer, AOC, with all their hype and false promises; games that over hype things never deliver. Games like Guild Wars 2 that barely have any hype at all are the games that come out good and they release it with everything that is promised, not games where they mention "Our game/systems/combat/any other random thing about the game, will be the best thing since sliced bread". Guild Wars 2 I shall wait for you, SWTOR I shall laugh at you and the thousands of disappointed fanbois.
lol very funny GW2 will be the biggest hyped mmo watch. Swtor has released very little information, how is it hyped?

Happy space combat is in.
Unhappy that it sounds like it's going to be a mini-game.
We'll see I guess.
I just have one question: Will it have real physics? I mean space combat in movies looked more air combat.
