guildwars never had it and neither did FFXI why the fuck should I care and I have over 15k hours clocked into guildwars....obviously the no jumping and swimming thing is not an issue.

Can anyone even name any FF game where jumping was possible? I havn't played this years yet, or the other mmo, but as far as I know it's never been in there.

The people complaining about these things can't have much loyalty to the series or it would be expected, not to say that I am loyal either (havn't played much since FF10 happened.. ugh), but we're not exactly the crowd they're targeting anyways.

So if you don't like not being able to do any of those 3 things, then move on and just don't ******* play it already. I don't get how this entire subject just keeps going on and on.. and on, it should be quite simple really.

Well I view these poll results like this, for some folks this seems important.  For those people it is likely they either never really cared for FF games or are just looking for an excuse to rant about this incarnation of FF.  Either way, it should weed out the people that don't really want this game and / or have not been very excited from the announcement of development.  To those leaving, I hope you find what you want, to those staying I will see you in September!

Well not really not getting to big headed here but this poll is statistically irrelevent and just for fun. A vote of no here is more like a sub you never had to begin with and didnt expect to get. Since ffxi was basically set apart from WoW, GW, and the WoW clones I would expect that when the real game drops the biggest share of the new players will just be well old ffxi players. Garnering shares from WoW is hard since its about as addictve as it get like crack to an addict seriously http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1157362/World-Of-Warcraft-addictive-crack-cocaine-teenager-suffers-convulsions-24-hour-long-game.html . I doubt they would even take the time to retool the engine )Crystal Tools) for jumping swimming unless it became not the most predominate reason for not playing but for quiting the game since they dont have your money in their pockets til you actaually go out and get the game.  I think in the long run many more will be worried about losss of community or the questionable combat class system over anything else and youll likely see this complaint come to the surface rarely.

Lol this is about as fair a response i can give thinking logically.

I don't really care much about jumping/swimming if the game play is fun. However, after seeing the latest game play vids, I'm worried that not having jumping/swimmng is the least of SE's worries.

Hmmm well considering the numerous post on the 3 topics I'd say to many these apply unders feature http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/feature look at definition number 2,

Definition number 2 = An important or main item.

Well since the developer doesnt consider that particular "feature" is important or it is by itself the main item. I'm still with my current statement.

If it isnt there in the first place, how can you consider it "missing" in the first place?

I'm still playing, although slightly disappointed. When jumping isn't allowed, travelling just feels a bit awkward. There could be a 6" ledge that isn't accessable without running around an entire mountain to find the tiny ramp that leads to it. And yes, I know that sometimes the terrain is designed like that... we're not supposed to be able to get up the ledge, so if jumping was allowed, they'd make it too high to jump up. But sometimes it isn't like that by design, and it just feels frustrating.

Anybody who isn't going to play because of this either

    A) Wasn't really interested in the game to begin with.

    B) Aren't familiar with the Final Fantasy series.

I think that this game (as well as XI) are meant to be final Fantasy games before MMORPG's. And it just wouldnt feel like Final fantasy if you could do these things. Im glad SE arent conforming.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

The lack of jumping really did effect my decision about this game. It ruins the feel of a game for me if I feel like I'm glued to the ground. Some games have surpassed this limitation and were so good that I enjoyed them without ever noticing, but this isn't one of them.

No jumping or swimming isn't a game breaker for me.

However, crappy controls that make me feel like I'm playing a sloppy port is.

So if a car maker decided that windows that rolled down weren't important, you wouldn't consider that a missing feature?

Or if the developers decided that hotkeys didn't fit their theme you happily type out the /command for every ability?

Just because some Devs decide that something isn't important to them doesn't mean that it's not important to everyone else.

I like riding with the windows down...I also like being able to jump in my MMOs. There is a feature that their game is missing.

ffxi controls arent sloppy i would hope there at least as good as ffxi if not better but if there worse by chance i have a 360 controller sitting right here dont have a 360 tho

I voted no to support simple things like 'jump'. Of course, I have never gotten into a FF game either. I was looking forward to trying the MMO one day, and I'm kind of happy now, because this will be a decent reason to skip over the game. I would not feel right paying a subscription for a game in a world of adventure, monsters chasing me, but I won't be able to hop over that log in my way.

I have enjoyed games without a 'jump' before, but have never preffered it. The 3rd person 3D world is designed for interaction with terrain, unlike many older overhead games, so saying that a game can be fun without jump is broad statement. A 3d, 3rd person, adventure, fantasy, online MMO feels right with a jump to manuver around enimies and terrain. That is of course just my opinion, but jumping around things in my way is a form of freedom, and MMO's are supposed to be about being in a game where you are free to do as you please. That, again, is just my opinion.

Still, I hope the game does well. I think this game having no 'jump' will hardly affect the game's popularity. The people skipping out on it will be those like me,  people looking at new MMO's. The loads of already loyal FF fans will relish in it (i assume). It should work out fine.

Sigh,,,,,, at best this is antics with semantics and nearly a troll. Yes I am seriously saying that since it has nothing to do with the poll. However, I will further illustrate why your wrong with a simple example. When a car maker produces a car it often has standard and optional features. If a car maker chooses not to carry a feature at all that another car maker carries standard and thus you have no access to it you'd call it a missing feature. So basically whether I consider it important or the developer doesn't matter as long as one party considers it important it can be considered an important important feature.

"The capability to jump is a feature missing from final fantasy XIV."

"The capability to jump is a standard feature in many MMOs such as WoW,  Aion, EQ2 and other popular MMO games."

BTW http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/missing the defintion of missing look at definition 1.

Now that where done with this please drop it and move on to the main topic. TY

I will say what I said before, there is no written law that say's that a game must have this or that to be a particular genre of game. I could make a game where you are 3 types of crap put it online and call it an MMO if I wanted to and there is nothing that says I can't.

For those that can not handle the no [missing mechanic here] well sorry it is not there and you wanting something is fine but it wont change that it is not there, one day maybe so just keep your hope up. If this is the only thing that stops you from enjoying something then all I can say is well go do something else. It's like sports if you have a favorite players and he quits/retires/gets hurt it does not mean you will stop enjoying the game it just means you will have to enjoy it with out him there, just because he is gone does not make it a bad game, it might be less enjoyable but it will continue. Those complaining about certain things not being there without playing the game do not even look at what is being offered because of that and its sad, because they will miss out on everything else.

So is the lack of Jumping and Swimming going to stop people from buying Diablo 3 when it comes out?  Is it even going to be a question that people ask or care about?

Personally I expect that most of the time I won't care about it.  Sure, there will be the rare case where I wish that I could jump or swim, but in games where I can jump just as often I'll wish I could jump a bit higher, so I don't see it as being that bit a deal.

  • SkeeterxiSkeeterxi Member Posts: 265

It all depends on how they handle it. I wanted jumping because in FFXI getting stuck on a tiny rock or ledge was simply retarded, having to turn around and walk around when you should be able to jump. It can be some what of an immersion killer but people will get over it. They ought to have an auto jump system, if you are running and reach something like a small ledge you should auto jump it.

No swimming is disappointing. Maybe they will add it in some time if they ever make a water type zone.

I will not be playing FFXIV, I have played in the beta.  However, my reasons have nothing to do with jumping, sitting, or swimming not being present.  It's just not my style of game.  To each his own.  To those that will be playing, I hope you have a great time and that it's everything you've been waiting/hoping for.

Not being able to Jump or Swim isn't a big factor to me at all. It's the hardware this game is going to require to run 'well' that will probably keep me from playing.

So, I didn't taint your poll since I had other reasons, just thought I'd interject. Carry on.

  • RandomCasualtyRandomCasualty Member UncommonPosts: 331

Urgh .. I hate not being able to jump over a 12 inch rock! without jumping I feel like I'm on rails. I guess this would mean you can't fall off a cliff as well or take shortcuts when travelling?

Swimming? Hmm I got used to the Aion drowning factor, but if we can't even enter the water in FFXIV then I'll be sad. May as well make all water bodies lava so there is a reason not to enter it.

Sitting? I don't sit much in mmorpg's unless needed for health/mana return so "meh"

I'll still play .. I play everything. Even Auto Assault when it came out (doh). Keep playing? Stay tuned!

The only thing that will sway my descision as to wheather i play or not are the controls, i dont care about swimming or jumping only controls.

In FFXI you weren't really limited as far as falling down goes.
