1998/9 we got a game from blizz called Starcraft....people loved it! I thought it was ok so I'll agree with the hype there.
2010 we got the next RTS game from Blizz....Starcraft II almost a complete copy of Starcraft...and people loved it! I however despise this one.
2004 we got World of Warcraft and people loved it!...Yeah I'm going to go ahead and say Blizzard is going to follow that same pattern.
Why mess with a formula that works? by formula i mean something that makes your business money. Despite any negative feelings i or anyone else may have towards wow or starcraft the bottom line is it generates the company a pile of money. so again why change it if its proven to make you a ton of cash.
I think it's gonna be world of starcraft tbh, what else do they have?
Well maybe diablo or something, but check it out all of a sudden Game Workshop is coming out with a 40k MMO...
We all know that warcraft and starcraft were originally based off Warhammer and warhammer 40k. So of course now blizzard is gonna try to one up game workshop and steal another one of their ideas and make a world of starcraft.
Don't think Blizzard gonna make a WoW-clone according to what they have said as it will be nothing like WoW.
Of course that is what they said. What they meant was that it will be nothing like wow as in a new environment , different worlds, different species, different classes, and a different story line.
IT will basically be a wow clone as far as game mechanics go , with different skins.
You thing Blizzard's new top secret MMO will be a Themepark WoW Clone of some kind?
If not, how do you believe it will effect the community player base?
Blizzard isn't stupid. They've seen the success rates of most WOW clones, and I don't expect that they will create one. Besides, creating one will only split the fanbase, possibly dropping the subscriptions for WOW. Something they won't want to do.
That being said. I think, like WOW, their next game will not be original or innovative. Like WOW it will be a VERY well done, VERY well polished derivative work that combines much of the best innovations that have already come out. WOW was a very polished derivative work of the MMOs that came before it. I believe the next one will be that same sort of work.
Blizzard is gonna do what blizzard always does and that is STICK TO WHAT THEY KNOW.
If you think they will make anything other than a wow clone you are being naive.
Don't really know but the possability exists that it could be just with a non fantasy setting maybe.
Other likely senarios it could be some kind of amalgamation of something like DAOC, Shadowbane and Darkfall with a side order of EVE but with softer death penalties. Then again it could be something as simple as Diablo done with MMOish features for facebook. Or anything in between those 2 extremes although the way Blizzard is pushing battlenet in all their current games and attempting to link it all to facebook I guess I would be leaning towards the last option more than the first.
The lesser of two evils is still evil.
There is nothing more dangerous than a true believer.
I honestly could not even fathom a vote.Blizzard never makes sense to me,from their out in left field spending [redkneck rampage] to hiring outside of their large corporation to be able to make SC Ghost work on console.
Their newest game SC2,is a low tech game, hard to believe a giant with billions of dollars would deliver such a low tech game,so they never make sense to me,so how could anyone figure out their next move?
Usually they seem to stick to low tech ,but they went out and licensed a top notch game engine for this venture,so again hard to figure blizzard out.Goto Gamasutra and they are hiring a game engine tool set designer,so again this means at least possibly means a whole new set of tools they cannot develop themselves,so this leads me to believe a totally new type of game, that they are not used to working with.
I think we need a lot more information before we can make any logical guess as to what their plans are.Blizzard might just be planing for the future, knowing full well that WOW will eventually die out,so they are preparing themselves for the future, they have at least 5-10 years i think before they really have to worry.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
maybe later; anything less than a virtual reality mmo will be disappointing and NOT "next-gen"
I won't play it; knowing my life would fall down the shit hole if I did: but it will be entertaining to track.
I think those who DO want to play the next mmo from blizzard don't want to entertain this idea because if it doesn't happen then they'll be disappointed and if it does they've been warned (watch Lawnmower man!)
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
I dunno if I am supposed to say this since I heard this from one of my relatives who makes CoD...but he said that he was working with Blizzard on something, I'm just saying. Possible connection?
When I read your post title with Top Secret capitalized, I thought Blizzard was coming out with an MMO based on the old TSR Top Secret rpg. Oh well, I guess I'll wait and see what it really is like the rest of you.
Why do I get the feeling this secret is going to be heavily influenced by ArenaNet's developer's blog? I smell a "Dynamic world system and character development" announcement coming up from Blizzard?
Is it just me or am I sensing an old rivalry rekindled?

My money is on WoW two from Blizzard. After all their pedigree predicts it for us: WC, WC2, WC3, SC, SC2, Diablo, Diablo2, and Diablo3. We are talking the best elements of WoW with a new graphics engine...wait a minute isn't that similar to what SOE are doing with EQ. The games industry for you gents and ladies.
I voted "Yes", but it all depends on when it is realeased. If Blizzard were to release a new MMO this year, or next year, it would definitely not be like WoW, because the marketing department at Activision Blizzard is smart enough not to push anything that would compete with their own game.
However, I find it much more likely that we'll hear more about the next Blizzard game once WoW starts dropping off in subscription numbers due to aging, so maybe in 3-4 years? Then they can put WoW on life-support, and release a new game that will satisfy the masses. It would obviously have a similar interface, and everything that made WoW popular. It would have every popular feature from other MMOs released the past 5 years that wasn't already copied into WoW. It would also have the Blizzard level of polish and financial backing that coupled with good-will from the masses ensures millions of new subscribers.
So yeah, that's my guess. Blizzard will release an MMO to retain most of the subscribers from WoW once WoW starts aging, just like they did with StarCraft. That MMO will obviously have enough of what made WoW popular to be called a WoW clone, at least on these forums. There's a chance they'll try running more than one MMO, of course, and that could turn out to be just about anything... given that it has already proved to be popular and just needs more polish. My bet is on the spiritual successor to WoW coming first, though.
Heh, there's too many options to be honest, although here's the four that I've been speculating:
1) It depends how much they want to/are able to advance the WoW engine to compete with the next-gen MMOs (assuming GW2, TERA and Rift don't flop on release.) If they do well, and WoW starts losing subs due to being out-played by the new usurpers, then I think they'll keep WoW going for old time's sake (although it'll still be hugely profitable) ala EQ1, and the next MMO will be an updated, super-polished WoW 2.0 (or possibly even more than 2.0, if they decide to innovate in development rather than when live.)
2) Similar to above, but rather than make a WoW 2.0 with a new IP they go for PvP done right, i.e. take the best features of Darkfall, DaoC, WAR, Aion etc and make a PvP players dream (people will call it a sandbox by today's standard, but I don't really see how DF is a sandbox apart from killing people and owning pre-made stuff on the world. It's a nice game though, for what it is ^^) with some optional PvE thrown in (think the current WoW model but reversed.)
3) They do a steampunk MMO. Bare with me. Imagine Allods Online but done a lot better, with far more emphasis on the ships but also with a huge world and trading/crafting in intricate detail, as well as space and land fights. I can picture that being a sort of "wow, I never saw that coming" style of game to do, basically Vanguard but polished and with steampunk features.
4) Totally random one: a historical, nitty gritty combat-action MMO, but with depth.
RIFT was a *crushing* disappointment; a shallow, loveless, generic MMO the likes of which hasn't been seen in a P2P format since, well, forever.
It is just going to take the best gameplay elements of WoW, improve graphics, and use a new IP. May get a teaser of info from Blizzard at con this year, reality Is who cares as we are talking 2012 launch (probably late that year) at earliest.
Since WoW will be at least 8 years old before said MMO gets released, it really doesn't matter. It could be WoW2 and it wouldn't affect the original WoW's subs by that point.
a new Blizzard mmo will be something good. WoW by their standards could have been a lot better- it doesn't have its distinctive Blizzard gameplay, its very much milked down by the mmorpg formula. A chance for them to step back, look at things, and do a new mmo different is a very good one.
Wouldn't make sense for blizzard to pull a new MMO that would go directly against WoW.. It will need to be at least different enough so one game won't eat on the other one.
Heard in an old interview that WoW might go F2P sometime.. They might use a new game launch to make that kind of move.
I'm hoping Blizzard has the guts to do something along the lines of a next gen mmofps. A game like planetside but with interactive npc's and rpg elements built into it on a larger scale.
Whatever it is, it will be extremely interesting to see it revealed.
Personally I dont think Blizzard would want to cannibalise their own existing playerbase. I think they'll be more likely to try and swipe someone else's. What online game has a massive presence that Blizzard might cast their gaze, vast, cool and unsympathetic, on?

I think what he means is will it be,
a themepark
similar controls and interface
contain similar kill x of x quests.
I think the answer is probably. The only dev team I see really trying to break away from this formula right now is arena net's Guild Wars 2.

Hydra was actually the code-name for SCII.

don't have any

I've got a bad feeling that their new MMO won't be RPGish style =/
Meh, but who knows... they really need to say something about it at Blizzcon this year though.

If battlenet is required I think there will be at least a few similarities between WOW and Whatever.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
No.
It will blow our minds.
