Correction: You have to choose one of four CALLINGS, not classes. Each calling has multiple classes in the Calling.

i knew i got somthing wrong. was watching the vid again , your right.

Rift, while it has some intriguing new features, still relies on the basic notion that being in a group warrants higher rewards. Guild Wars 2 departs from that by allowing players to come on a scene, work cooperatively for a common goal without having to be chained to one another, and receive rewards based, not on who tapped the objective first, but rather based on your amount of participation. That means grouping will be by mutual desire, not as a means to end.

Scott Hartsmann and his team are still locked very much inside the same old, tired box.

Very excited for both titles, however after watching the gameplay videos released from the last few days, the Guild Wars 2 videos look far more impressive visually and in terms of gameplay and gameplay mechanics in terms of innovation and freshness than Rift.

This is going to be one of those things that boil down to preference. Both titles obviously look of quality, and seem to be polished quite nicely. It comes down to preference over game world, etc. and do you want a more classic MMO experience, or an entirely new formula we're not sure how will actually pan out once the game goes live.

    -no healing class
    -lame leveling curve
and some others things that i really dont know cause i dont follow the game much xD.

well about Rift, looks amazing, i'd say it has superior graphics, LOTS of classes, multiple class combination, u can make hybrids,
well n about the Dynamic content its wat the game is all about image

So lets c when both games are out and take our conclusions.

EDITED: i'v seen a couple more footage and the "enlightening" when you select something its a thumbs down from me, not to mention the "lame" comments when your character defeats something.
conclusion, if your an Emo than this is the game for you... (dark areas, grotesque race, ect)

Bro A-NET has experience, what do you know about the creators of rift?

The quality of the game at release will have a huge impact. We'll see which ones has memory leaks, is slow, has unfriendly or bogus interfaces, has incomplete quests/storyline, has incomplete professions, or is completely unbalanced. I believe quality (or lack of) is amongst the biggest mmo-killer.

They have experience as well on many different MMOs. I will look for the article that states this, but their team has worked on something like 27 different MMOs combined.

Scott Hartsman (Chief Creative Officer and Executive Producer) is well known for saving EQ2 as well so.....experience is there.

If you look through their actual roster, there's actually a BUNCH of well-known talent in the Trion (Rift) development team.

And @ the OP -- dynamic content isn't what Rift is all about. They offer it, but they also stated there's a nice amount of your typical talk to NPC, accept quest, kill/fetch/travel, turn in quest.

Guild Wars 2 is based on the dynamic content, purely.

I believe GW2 will blow rift out of the water. Just my opinion. Rift kinda has that wowish feel to it, tbh.

Going with RIFT as well, the game looks fantastic and the lore is alive! GW2 will do well but you cant compare the 2, they are not the same.

  • ZeroxinZeroxin Member UncommonPosts: 2,515

Can you REALLY say that THIS gameplay looks more fun than THIS gameplay?

If you can.... well.. d-(-_-)-b double thumbs up!

    This is not a game.

Show me a quote/link that says GW2 is only going to be dynamic content. I have been following both very closely and I have never seen that anywhere.

They are not the same. You are right about that. But ask yourself, Why should you pay for a medicocre title when a game like GW2 with its superb graphics and innovation is looming on the horizon?

LOL it is your OPINION that a game that is not even out yet is a mediocre title. Enough said.

Looks more towards EQ2 to me, I do not see any wowish at all, Gw2 looks more WoWish after watching that video.

    FFS these arguments get old...

"EQ is better than AC", "AC is better than EQ"

    >fast forward

"WoW will be better than EQ2", "EQ2 will be better than WoW"

    >fast forward

"AoC will be better than WAR" , "WAR will be better than AoC"

    >fast forward

    "RIFT!"   ,   "GW2!"

This I can agree with and it makes much more sense with a decent part of their experience coming from EQ2.

Rifts looks like the same old same old.  Granted, I haven't been following it very closely, but after seeing some videoes, it's not something I'm interested in.

On the other hand,  GW2 looks fresh and has some innovative ideas.  Hopefully both will have a good launch.  More games on the market just means a better selection for people.

  • MithiosMithios Member Posts: 271

I'll be checking them both out. Both look like they will have some good things about them. Though I have a feeling I'll end up liking Rift the best, I'm keeping an open mind.

A tiny mind is a tidy mind...

You are absolutely right. I do have an opinion. While rift may be ok, when paired up against GW2 it does appear to be a mediocre title.   Anyhow, everyone has their own style I guess. Gw2 just looks like it is shaping up to be THE game.

People shouldn't create a thread about Rift being greater than Gw2 if they don't want to hear the other side of the spectrum.

    1) Makes LFM for groups in-game easier by not forcing them to hunt for healers who aren't online and letting them heal themselves instead?  I would say oversimplification for instant gratification here but we shall see.

    2) has a long history of great content?  Prove GW2 has a long history of great content...you cant it hasn't released your arguement here is void.

    3) that the leveling curve will remove grinding?  Again this is yet to be seen or proven.

Instead you think Rift is better, which isn't original in it's art-style like GW, because Rift uses the same apparent UI as Allods/WoW and graphic style from L2?  See below screenshots for the reason you are retatred.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but interesting choice.

I found no screenshots or references to the UI in Rift being anything like WoW or any other MMO altho i am sure it is similar they all are.  So please post a screenshot or reference so we can all judge for ourselves.

Watch the videos I posted and THEN compare which one looks more WoWish/EQish/Warhammerish. From the text font to the attacks, RIFT looks like the stuff out already. I don't see that with GW2.

    This is not a game.

Rift looks good but it isn't GW2 good now but as the op says, it is just his opinion.

There is one basic difference here. Guild Wars 2 has no monthly fee. Buy the box and you're done until the next expansion comes out. Rift will likely have the established standard subscription model. From a practical standpoint, no one really has to choose. You can play both.

Personally, I don't care. What I would like to see is enough quality MMOs to release to force Blizzard to pull their collective heads out of their arses and stop tinkering with the way WoW plays. I get tired of having to relearn my class just because some new development staffer has his own idea of what's "fun".
