SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

After the furor over the postponement of the Final Fantasy XIV open beta, Square Enix has revealed that the bug issues causing the delay have been solved. The open beta will begin on September 1, 2010 (that's today!). Here's the full press release.

We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which was announced to be postponed on Aug. 31, 2010. Along with the completion on investigation and correction of the critical issue, we have decided to begin FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test on Sep. 1, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT). Starting on Sep. 1, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT), acquisition of registration code required for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be available.

We are looking forward to your participation in FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test!

Read more here.

Ed note: Sorry for the confusion. The press release I received in mail said Sept 2 but the official site says Sept 1.

Was the previous download link removed? Got the installer yesterday but it crashes for me. Maybe another version coming up this evening...

Sweet.  So OB Starts Sept 1st, OB starting early, OB has critical bug and is postponed, OB Starts Sept 1st!

Nice that they got it fixed so fast.

Tested CB and as far as I could tell... dont get ya hopes up :) It is the same basic mmorpg like all the others. No new elements or new game mechanics.

Just for the FF fans I guess ^^

You wont be testing anything.  You like many thousands of others will just log in to stress their servers.

Are there any restictions in place to not talk about certain elements of the game? Or during this Open Beta will ppl be able to describe the game in detail?  I would love to hear honest reviews if thats the case. Thx ;)

The NDA has been lifted for a while now... feel free to talk post videos etc

If you played FFXI you will like FFXIV.

If WoW was your first baby mmo ... then you more than likely will not like FFXIV.    This game is built for the Console first Pc second.   BUT Zamian  PC is coming out first... Well yah... PC version is the beta and tweak for the Highly coveted Japanese console market... Japanese company  many japanese console players hmmm...  :D

IF you played original FFXI you would understand this.

You are able to solo better in FFXIV than FFXI  the crafting and harvesting are a lil better with mini games.  there is alot of information already posted around the web about the game.. Can start at ffxivcore.com etc  or just google  :D

Oh nice ty, I'm sure there will be plenty of information stated then.  Thx again for the quick reply

Question: What kind of a monster assed computer do you have to have to run the damn thing cause I just bought a brand new I-buy-power desktop with dual core intel running at 3gb each core slapped a 9600 GTX vid card in it and failed the benchmark miserably.

I think you are mistaken, the site says 02:00 GMT and not 14:00 GMT. Can you show where u read 2 pm?

    @Wrender:

    I've got a Core-i5 760 running at 3.6GHz and a NVidia GTX460 gfx card.

    Game runs perfect.

No pre-downloading available apparently, not impressive.

I know it's not brand new, I'm on a budget ok?

But it does meet the system requirements can I still play it?

    I have:

    Geforce 9600 GT 512mb

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHZ)

    4GB DDR2

It runs but it's not very smooth.

I get 15-25 FPS, with everything turn down.

Just upgrade the video card to GTX460 is really all I need to do, and I'd be golden.

As long as the graphics card has 512mb ram you will be able to run it at lower settings. Depends on the resolution you play at to what kind of FPS you will get.

I'm running a Core i7 3.20GHz processor, two GTX 275 cards in SLI, 6 gigs of ram.  But the best part is, I bought this computer for World of Warcraft.  That way I can see very single cartoonish pixel that they can put into that game.  However, it also helps to have this thing when games I actually want to play come out.  TERA Online, Guild Wars 2 just to name a few.  I'm going to try out the Open Beta for this game today though.  I'm not really interested, but I'm going to treat it as a free trial even if I'm going to crash constantly because of server lag, etc.

I like to complain about games.
