Hopefully it's not one of those things where they close and then re-open just to let in another group and then close again :(

I feel like I'm playing FFXI again and camping a NM, only this time my refresh key has replaced my provoke or dia lol.

Is anyone else getting this message?

Applications have been closed since last night, this batch of keys is gone.

No ETA on when the next batch will be released, or how many keys will be available, you'll just have to wait it out and hope to get a key from the next batch.

Yeah I got that message and have continued to for the last few hours after trying without success last night to get through the weak website. (Eventually got to the login page, only to have it not load after that.)

Oh well..maybe they'll throw us a bone eventually and let us know when they'll be opening up to give out keys again.

I just wish they would give an estimated time, sheesh.... my friend (Whome I informed about this OB) logged on this morning and without effortlessly WITHOUT LAG or ERROR recieved a code.....

I could kick myself, I'm happy for him but MAN that was just weird.

Keys are still bring given out as I write...the servers are just busy with zillions of hits...

they've been gone on the EU end for almost an hour now... it supposedly kicked off at Sept 2nd, 2pm GMT (which is 3pm UK time since we're into BST). Before 1pm GMT all keys had gone - guessing previous ones or they lied about the time/date as per usual, there was confusion over the EU start period their websites/emails etc contradicted themselves.

But all gone by 3:40pm when i got in.

What's weird, is EU support is down and there was never a preorder = open beta in any UK stores or online. Which is odd since every open beta from the past 3 years normally has that kinda deal going.

So keys gone on a site which had issues going onto the login screen, and from the login screen to the key screen. All keys gone in 40 mins, support down.

I don't know it does feel kinda dodgy.

Hope enough got keys to make it worthwhile... i'll actually find it funny if they log on and within a day everybody that got keys only 20% stayed.

Just feels slightly rushed and not thought through considering the release date is at the end of the month. "shit guys we better have an open beta" ' servers can't handle that' "well...."

lol... come on, you gotta find it amusing. Companies with big ideas for the "next mmo" usually are... remember AoC or WAR, or Aion.. or Star Trek Online, or the dead Auto Assault. (i actually liked Tabula Rasa sue me).

*munches popcorn* i hope they keep their FF11 players (except those on the 360 of course) but... i don't see them making up numbers until the PS3 release in March. PC MMORPG players are fickle, and the love of their various MMO's now... pulls them back when nothing can do better.

    still beats watching eastenders ;)

I have played quite a few games in Beta but I would have to say that the one by Square Enix is one of the poorest Open Beta applications I've seen. I think Beta is a privilege and of course the whole point is to test bugs. However, I can understand people getting upset when a Open Beta date is released and then postponed then released again but then the keys restricted. Thats likely to tick off quite a few people. Its not often that a game annoys me this quick but I found that this game or pre game did score points for annoying me. After making an account to join the Open Beta I found the client download was a snails pace. On top of that they really didn't explain well how to get in the Open Beta and the websites from SE are some of the worst to navigate. You would think there would be this big banner that says OPEN BETA FINAL 14 HERE and if there were any issues such as postponement or lack of keys that the information would also be in big letters. Meh.... Just my feeling on it. I lurked and found what I needed although I found that the website was too busy to get a key and when they were not busy anymore there is apparently now a postponement of Beta Keys. First come first serve I guess although its more like first come and if you have the luck of a three time lottery winner to get in. I'm still going to give Final Fantasy 14 a try but thought this Open Beta had the poorest execution of major game I've played. Not something I would expect of a blockbuster title. They should of done a Closed Beta before opening it up if there were this many problems.

All the trouble getting a key? I somehow got one, and the client won't even open up for me. Just instantly crashes. Been reading around ALOT and seems like zounds of people are having problems from executing boot.exe to pressing "play" to terrible graphics performance.

I like to be optimistic, but FFS give me a reason to SquareEnix.

He who keeps his cool best wins.

Hmm, after reading this thread and the problems faced, safely back to World of Warcraft for the likes of me.

    Good choice :-)

I have been looking so much forward to FF XIV, but if this is how SE is gonna run this, im not even gonna think about buying it. At LEAST give us a ETA for more beta keys..

It is a beta test so I cannot see how you can complain so much. Beta testing isn't for everyone as it means using prerelease software that may have issues running on your computer system. In addition, the human factor of zillions of people mashing the portal sites with hits via there web browser is understandably going to create issues. I was playing OB yesterday and it played fine...even mouse was ok to play with. Playing OB you have to put up with server side changes that may D/C you or prevent you from playing. Additionally, OB won't be open for ever as head start is soon. really for a free experience North Americans are pretty intolerant bunch it seems.

First of all, i know what open beta means. I know its testing, and preparing. Why did this open beta start so horrible? Site where completely clocked up. I have played in lots of closed and open beta's An never have i experienced such a mess. The reason why i really want to get in, is simply because i work in the game retailer business, and therefor want some personal experience with this game, so i can answer some of my customers questions regarding this game.

And btw, im not North American!

game has been peachy and rad for me. open beta is still a beta, if you wait a few weeks you can play the game under launch conditions.

    tried it.

    very pretty.

    no fullscreen, windowed mode only.

keyboard movement and control is horrendous, you will have to use console to play it - even on PC.

glad I got a chance to try it before dropping $$, will give this a pass.

There is full screen.  You need to open the FF14 Config program to make changes.

    Hello all

Though FFXIV is the most prettiest game i ahve seen in a while with a nice story there are things the game is lacking even in the open beta phase.

    1. The game is defently not ready for retail release.

2.The Lack of Tutorials in game and the asumption that everyone who is playing it knows the game mechanics is bad design.

    3. The restriction on Leve's in game to 8 per 48 hour period is just rediculas and seriosly dampers the playability of the game even to the point that you feel like you have to grind monsters to get anywhere because you can only do 8 quests .And the fact when released the game will be almost 20$ per month to play this is very upsetting.

I say the last comment for the reason its been put in place to stop hardcore players ultra leveling but it also effects people who dont have a normal play time allacated and jump on when they can some people may have some time randomly to jump on here and there and might have say 4 hours one day and no time til the next week to play so will fall more and more behinde due to the limmit on xp and leve's (quests).

Overall the Graphics are fantastic and the class and crafting system (though lack of any tutorial ) are good  aswell . Lets hope SE can pull a miricale and save this game before it comes to retail and gets released though i think it take atleaste 6months to iron out all the bugs.

I have To say this though who ever made the updater doesnt know a thing about coding i have resorted to a outside U torrent to download all the updates cause the ingame updater always floods my upload speed.

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall

I tried the beta with an open mind, I made it through the game very frustrated because there was no tutorials. After I figured everything out, I must say I don't really see myself playing at launch.

The game just seemed slow to me, and thusly deep down I wasn't having that much fun. Honestly though the number 1 reason I probably won't be playing this game at launch... Is I can't see myself dedicating so much time to an mmo with no pvp.

    this sucks..

I made an account, got the code, wrote it in, got a mail that said i was registered and had a beta test account then when i tried to log in to download it this comes up:

The FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Site can only be accessed by those who have been granted Beta Test accounts.

Beta testers can log in from the link below using their Square Enix Account.

If you read the email they sent you. Open Beta accounts cannot access the Beta Forums. You can create an account to access the game, but you cannot create an account on the Beta Forums.
