can we please stop with this 'wow killer' BS?! its the most trite and inane commentary one can make about a game.
Dont you worry. In the near/far future, WoW will slowly fade away, like all MMO's sometime always do. And by then we will see "X will be the X killer" threads.
ha! so sad, but so true---therefore funny.

I dream about one day trolling people who make "Guild Wars 2 killer" threads.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
It's still free to play so why bother? Maybee it's not topnotch AAA as the upcoming Star Wars game but it will be good enough to spare some time on for sure!
I dream about one day trolling people who make "Guild Wars 2 killer" threads.
hehe
I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch, but if GW2 succeeds at what it's trying to do and players can adapt to the next paradigm, this could be one of the games to beat and will almost certainly be the game to attempt to copy.
As a player who has been waiting for years for a game like this, I really, really hope they do pull it off, because this it sets the direction for where I want the genre to head moving forward.
At least being B2P, we will never have to argue subscription numbers. We can just look at the sales figures and know how well the game is doing.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
First off any hype meter it total fanboy BS no matter what game it is (either this, Tor, Wow, you name it)
2nd the only WoW "killer" is going to be WoW 2 when and if it comes out. Then people will leave WoW for WoW 2.
Other than that, each game is going to have its fans and players, trying to shoot for 11 million like WoW is a fools goal and really who cares. As long as people like the game, play it, and it remains viable for the company to keep around, who cares about other games like WoW?
Yep, those 2601 people who hype-rated the game are going to cause the downfall of the million user WoW..... /golfclap
I knew people who said the same about Wow taking over after EQ early in 2005, almost anything can happen.
Sure, it wont close down Wow but it is not that unlikely that GW2 or TOR actually could get more Western players than Wow a year after it's release. Wow is old and have been loosing players pretty fast now, the question is not if another game will be larger but which and when.
Blizzard fans usually say that Titan will be the one that does that and it is sure a possibility but counting out a unreleased AAA MMO already is a mistake.
fact is thats really easy to dehype a game, making several accounts and gving a 0 to the game makes the ranking sink really quick... Fact is that it didn't happen to GW2 yet, while for example all other games around SW:TOR are currently being dehyped so SW:TOR rises the charts again.
This says more about GW2 then the actuall figures... Everyone likes GW2 in some extend.. So noboddy is taking the time and trouble to dehype it...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Well the wait is finally over! I have been waiting years for some game to be claimed as a wow killed and it's hard to believe we had to wait so long to hear that.
On the lighter side, I am looking forward to trying GW2!

Really GW2 will be a good game but no where near the power WoW has, Gw2 is a free to play game so you will get what you pay for meaning you got to buy your expacs and in between you will gwt no updates other then bug fixes, so if they drop a epac ever 6 mth you in a way will be paying 15 a mth.
I personally dont think the term WoW-Killer is a compliment. What is a wow-killer? Does it do things like wow but more shiny!
No thank you.
Pretty much this. Wow-killer is a complete slap in the face to the gaming developers, because rarely do they even attempt to make these "WoW-killers."
All the people that are saying wow-killer are doing, is trying to replace WoW on it's pedestal. But then in that case, the next game to come along will knock GW2 off the pedestal, then the next, and the next, and with each replacement the subscribers from the previous will move along to the next, effectively killing the previous incarnation. Stop trying to fit every damn game onto one pedestal, and start focusing on whether the game is Good or not. I certainly don't want a WoW-killer. I just want a game that can be enjoyed for a long long time.
In short, everytime someone says "This will be the next wow-killer," you're just not letting that game stand on it's own.
The original Guildwars have gotten plenty of free updates as well as the axpansion and the 2 campaigns. Places like Droks and small free campaigns like war in Kryta.
There is no way they actually can release a Xpack in 6 months anyways, there will be 9-14 months or so in between.
And 6 times 15 is 90, an Xpack will not cost 90 bucks. Also, you don't have to buy all expansions, games like Wow and most others always raise the level cap to force you to buy it, I doubt ANET will do that (GW1 have had the same cap since 2005).

This and expos are usually $30-50 instead of the norm 50/60 for a new game. Also (for Warjin), I don't think it's classified as F2P, but rather B2P, because I doubt you'll be able to play the game without buying it.
Im not sure anything could ever out sell WoW. But it might steal a very large number of its players. But that seriously remains to be seen. And the hype meter on mmorpg is a fun little feature of the site, but that in no way shape or form means this game is going to even be good. Much less kill WoW.
LOL. If you go by ratings on this site WoW would only be the 26th most successful MMO out there, and Rift and Perpetuum would be the most successful.
But regardless of ratings here or anywhere for that matter, it is clear now that WoW will simply slowly die of old age, and I think at this point is way beyond "being killed." That's like saying Half Life killed Doom in the FPS space...

GW2 is not a WOW killing game, only WOW can kill there own game. It is an MMO breaking free of what is the norm for your typical MMO. This is a big changer in the MMO world, and people want to play something with a different approach on what you should do in a MMO. If other developers out there out there making MMO's see that it works, we me have more B2P games with no monthly sub fee's, or change the fighting layout or remove the holy trinity play style. Who do you think wants to pay monthly for a quality game, when they can play another quailty game free of charge per month. The game is living up to it's Hype pretty well, and I believe it will be a fantastic game to play when it releases.
I never pay attention to the Hype system in this site, I just pay attention to what people are thinking about and comment on topics of games I'm interested in or have played in the past.
Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)
Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.
Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.

The stagnation of WoW is the WoW killer.
Important facts:
1. Free to Play games are poorly made.

3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.

True!
Now we all wonder where the real stagnation taking place and why?

Still a hyped up game to be honest, not more...........not less!
This thread is kind of laughable because GW2's rating is only from 2600 people lol. You can't base that on being a WoW Killer lmfao.
Man this is a pretty old thread. Why you guys keeping it on life support?
