I just want to say I really love the combat mechanics and graphical style that the TERA developers have going on. But when I watched this gameplay demo I was utterly disgusted:

I'm talking about what he says during the first 30 seconds of the video. The video game industry really needs to start moving away from this kind of behaviour if it wants to be more widely accepted (and I dunno about you, but I do want that). It's both immuature and mysoginistic and I find it to be disgraceful.
Tell me I'm not the only one.

Why would that bother you?
What difference does it make?
I honestly wouldn't have even noticed if they didn't say anything. But, is it really something that surprises you? When I think of Tera, I think of chicks in ultra-revealing armor.
Sex sells, it's nothing new. If sex didn't sell, most people probably would have never heard of Evony.

i think the model looks ...retarded running like that. hunched over way too much just so we can see a bunch of pixels arranged to look like panties, not worth it. have the skirt wave up and down flashing her ass, that'd be alright.
Must say that is a bit over the top, but that is basically a lot of people's take on playing, sort of "if I gotta stare at the backside of my toon for hours on end, I would rather have something nice to look at".
I find that pretty distasteful, and the fact that the dev's for this went out of their way to make it that way and point it out as a feature even more so, but then again for every person that dislikes this sort of thing there is likely 5 more to take their place that absolutely love it.
I have to agree with you really. It's just so blatently over the top, theres no subtleness about it what so ever it ends up looking pretty ridiculous when your character is running with her rear stuck right out constantly.
yeah i do get bothered, but if the gameplay ends up being nice then screw up let´s pk the weirdos
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
That was about the worst running animation I have seen in an MMO hehe.
I think you are taking it a bit too seriously, considering you are not a female. Females often get offended with these kind of stuff but still unreasonably IMO. The best I could do was lol. I'm 100% sure those guys were just kidding at each other (developer and interviewer I guess). I won't talk about the actual feature, but in this video I'm positive they were just joking.
As a female player I find those kind of over the top nudity and actions uneappealing but if the game is as good as it looks on the other aspects it could overshadow such flaws....although the sad reality is that at the end of the day, the aim of the companies is to attract the larger player base which is your average horny/nerdy/troll/weird 11-50 male players...I don't blame the companies for doing this as it's each individual player's behaviour and tendencies that brought this about, nowadays any game I return to I find the player base so degenerated that it's hard to keep to one game, althought for Tera I do hope that, in the event that it is as good as the developers say it is, it will at least be able to keep the more mature players and somewhat balance out the retarded masses...
Wow, they really aren't holding back with the sexualization of this game. The model is literally bending over, getting ready for some love.
When I first saw this I remember thinking of an imaginary meeting where the guy in the video first brought up the idea. Everyone laughed, except for that one person faining indignation, then slowly everyone that was laughing stopped as they realised "uh, he's serious and my boss".
Wow... upskirts?
I'm now interested in this game.
Playing: Starcraft II.
Played: Tibia, Ragnarok Online, Ultima Online, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft.
Wanna play: Guild Wars 2, SW:TOR, Final Fantasy XIV, Diablo III.
What how that race looks shes kinda half animal, so that can explain why she runs like that however, the upskirt shot was a wee bit too well done. Doesn't bother me though its only a game, and as someone already ssaid hot female chars in games sells games.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

I don't see the big deal. Looks fine to me, the one commentator was an idiot and I heard he got some knuckles. I am just hoping the males run like this;
She's wearing just as much as cheerleaders wear. No big deal.
The game is rated M for Mature so it seems about right. Sex does sell. Also you don't have to play it if it bothers you. I'm sure if you went to the beach you'd see the same thing. Some women are disgusted with the hooters girls and they are wearing more than anything you'd see at a beach.
Not this again ... get over it and quit being so over sensative. Castanics run foward like that. Castanics wear very reveiling clothing. If you don't like it then don't play a Castanic. If something like that bothers you but having your character run in an cut monsters up into tiny pieces doesn't then you need to get laid more often.
My post wasn't about whether I'm offended about it. Like people have said if I find it that offensive I should just not play the game etc etc. My point is that this kind of behaviour is all to common in games.
Sure, you're right, sex sells. Another example would be the dozens of thrillers featuring scantily clad women. And this. But for every film that shows women as an object of sexual desire (and men for that matter) there is at least one that gives a more realistic portrayal of life. The same is not true of games.
Everyone with 10 minutes worth of attention span should watch this video. Now, in it he talks specifically about attracting women to games, but I think it's also to do with how gaming is viewed by "non-gamers" - as a crass, childish passtime much like how comics were viewed before they became "graphic novels" and were respected as an art form.
I, and many other gamers, care about how video games are viewed by society as a whole, and not doing this sort of thing would be one step towards a wider acceptance.

The problem is now your going into issues with society not with the game itself. I understand where your coming from but there is no point going against it cause for everyone who is against it, there are 20 who are secretly fapping. I am getting tired of seeing my favorite video game's turned into movies which had bad ass male leads then the movie comes out and it's a woman and the story is screwed up cause of it. I also watch anime and actually hate animes with fan service, I don't need to see panty shots and bouncing boobs to enjoy a story. If it gets too bad I just don't watch it. Highschool of the Dead is an anime that was completly ruined by fan service so I stopped watching it. Either way, this is an issue of society and really can't be pinned down harshly against TERA simply because one race is portrayed that way.
Aside from them sounding like complete nerds, which is okay, I see nothing too interesting. So what, you can see up her skirt, that's all good. If you want to play a more serious looking character choose something else. Plus, I'm sure you get armor after like 2 levels that covers you up.
In the end, I see nothing wrong here. There were plenty of other "robust" characters to reaffirm my manliness should I decide looking up a girl's skirt at her ass is too woman-like of me.
Also " It's both immuature and mysoginistic and I find it to be disgraceful.". - Might want to dictionary.com those words for future reference.
I don't particularly like it. But I am fine with anything if there are actual lore reasons for it, I wouldn't care if there was a pack of wild men and women from far north who all fought completely nude. If there is a good story behind it you can justify anything. In this case though the dress is actually cut extra short in back and longer in the front if you look at it, so she is very blatantly being a temptress. Given Castanics are somewhat demonic though I would say it is in character for them.
In the end gameplay can trump everything and Tera looks pretty good.
Please use words properly. Mysoginistic is the hatred of women. To say "I can look up my characters skirt" is not even remotely close to the meaning of that word. You're spreading misinformation. Immature, yes. You might not be the only one who thinks it's immature to look up digital avatar skirts to see what you can find, but to label someone as a hater of women is a bit extreme for what was said.
And sex sells. It has nothing to do with video games. When the gaming population is mostly made up of young men, I believe it to be a fairly intelligent marketing decision.
Misogyny is manifested in many different ways, from jokes to pornography to violence to the self-contempt women may be taught to feel for their own bodies.
It can certainly be interpreted as misogyny.
If this bothers you, then you don't want to see my Champions Online character. I could spend hours just doing my character's makeup and clothing. Like online barbie dolls! I love it!
Makes me want to play TERA even more. I wonder what the character customization is like?

That's fine, in situations where a woman is being oppressed by someone.. sure. Not in this situation. It's a female digital avatar and a young kid joking about the rear end of the character. Degrading to female avatars? What's the difference between an insult and a compliment? The kid nor the vendor behind him is being mysoginistic. They are simply being immature. People are too damn sensitive about everything. It's like everyone is a little baby and the slightest change in their environment makes them cry hysterically. It's pathetic.
