The difference between "not liking" and "finding offensive" is very big.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oogeJzEZIn0  Here is how human females look in game, still not the best, but much better than the castanica female.

Secondly, I'm not saying female gamers don't have a sexual life, but if a woman lurks gaming forums and goes on to say such troll comments as: "If you like how this game looks then you are nothing but a boy that has never been laid in his life" and "they made this decision to attract horny adolescent boys that have never seen lady parts in real life" then it really makes me wonder.

Sorry, I did not think you were Paterach. If you ready again, you will see I address him specifically after I flippantly noted your mindset is part of the problem. It was he with whom I had a serious problem.

But since you responded politely, so shall I in turn.

First, and most importantly with relation to your post, is that it makes no difference in the character in question was a human, a demon, and elf, or any other imaginary thing. What matters is how the subject matter was treated. That they portray Castani in this way speaks to how they view human women, obviously. It shows them treating females as sex objects, which is offensive. It has no bearing on my security with my own body. I am comfortable in my own skin, and the female characters in these games only look marginally better than I do, and that usually in their perfect faces.

The point is how women are treated in media, and how this affects and is representative of their perceptions of women on a subconsious level. This is part of a worldwide phenomenon in which women are systemically viewed as less important than men and as sex objects for those men. Someone mentioned how there are bigger problems in the world, and that's obvious, but that women are still treated so badly in parts of the world, and that it is not more denounced by people, is directly related to the same mentality that thinks it is okay to portray females in this way.

Let me be clear. I have no problems with depictions of sex, or sexual concepts. I think that America (at least when I was there) is much more conservative about this issue that many places, and they should lighten up with regards to sex scenes and the like. I love violent games, and I love killing the imaginary things or the avatars of people in these games, and that is fine, I think. When two soldiers meet in battle, or someone hunts monsters, that is fun. What would not be acceptable for violence would be the slaughter of civilians, or torture for fun, and things like that. It is okay to show sex, and talk about sex, but to objectify women in the way that is done here (it is especially obvious if you listen to the men talking about the character in the video, that is as repusive or more than the actual avatar) is not okay, and to allow it, or think it is okay, is the problem. This is sexist, and works in the same way as someone mentioned racism. Everyone I know would be offended if a black person was stereotyped in a game. How is it that that treatment is okay for women?

What is worst of all this is that so many people do not even seem to understand the issue, or why someone else might be offended, even if they are not. They have been raised with the mindset that it is okay to treat women that way, so they see no issue with it. I guess once indoctrination happens, there is no helping some people.

I will continue to read this thread, but I think I am done talking in it. If someone does not understand how this can be offensive without being caused by insecurity or lack of a sex life or whathaveyou, then I doubt there is any explaining it, and they will just continue to be part of the problem. We will just have to work on the next generation, to make things a little better for everyone.

So.... the way they protray Castani women (Not human) tells you how the feel about human women... But the way they actually portrey human women tells you absolutely nothing?

sounds to me like the probem here is with your own perseptions, not their portrayals.

They portray human women in a similar fashion based on the other videos I've seen.

Really, it's just childish - artistically directed for hormone crazed humans. Not to take anything away from gameplay or whatever the fans of this action rpg like.

A video was just shown that they don't? They portray human female normally and if you wanna pick a human female sorcerer which means caster with light clothing them I'm terribly sorry but it will look just like that, a caster with light clothing.

     Point???

This is the naked version of human female, the thing that happens when you remove everything out of your equipment, have you not played other MMOs?

And if it's not, you'd probably have to struggle to make her look like that, would you?

Absolutely not, classic pregiudice. People don't pay 50$ for the client + 15$ month for see an ass, they will get bored fast because is not a life simulation, don't think? The main focus of the game is the fantastic art style and landscape, the action fps system and pvp, only retard and insecure people think different.
Now seems you are one of them because the only thing you focus in this game is a stupid video with some jokes in or maybe you are one of these trolls bored coz you are sick to wait 2011 for your next west mmorpg.
In the end haters like you are a nonfactor, a true minority, after all people who dislike korean games will never play korean games aniway, no matter how good they are because they have pregiudice, ugly anime art, sexism, bad armour design, and grindfest. We already know this and we don't care, so give us a favour and go to play your innovative GW2, this game will surely fit better your tastes.

PS: Before you back to GW2 or Wow you can increase your forum count blaming Blade & Soul too, another big sexist game, graphic and art made by Hyung-tae Kim, a known women hater like all asians. /sarcasm off

It doesn't bother me in any particular way and at least they are honest of why they put this in :p

But I do find it over the top in this case and the walk is just plain ridiculous looking imo...

It's not really a mark of good taste, but just throwing it in your face, which doesn't very much appeal to me.

I prefer sexyness to be displayed subtly and suggestively instead of just flat out having a bunch of women with G-strings and naked breasts, although I can't deny there is some attraction to that of course.

We will just have to work on the next generation, to make things a little better for everyone.

You see that *IS* part of the problem.  We've had MUCH more than enough "working on the next generation" as it is.  I'm old enough to remember when much of this started back in the 60's. I also remember seeing parts of entire generations of males grow up under its influence.  The results have not tended to be good.  FAR too many females claimed that they wanted "caring, sensistive" males as partners and mates. Only to find that the results of this indoctrination program produced broken males, who didn't match their ideal concept.  Many of these ended up discarded, and pretty much left to work out their various "issues", while the ideologues set to work on the next generation.

Contrary to somes ideological beliefs, males and females have different biology and thus perceptions and typical behavior patterns. The attempts to "normalize" male behavior in the public "educational" system through the use of drugs and coercion has resulted in *major* problems for parts of entire generations.  I have always held the belief that male children should be taught by male teachers, and female children should be taught by female teachers.  Males tend to understand what is typical male behavior, and can use command tone and posture to maintain order.   The best male(and some female) teachers understand and apply this.

As for "Objectification", its a rather complex field, with little real agreement among the various camps about core processes and the results. Given that we are dealing with individual perceptions as well as belief systems, thats hardly surprising.  What is known is that humans inherently objectivify as a part of their data processing system. That this would extend to such a basic area as sex should be no surprise.  BOTH sexes tend to objectify the other.  But the results of one side being granted official "victim" status are too complex and detailed to go into at this juncture.  But in the over all scheme of things that video is really trivial, and to many of us a subject of humor, rather than offense.

I remember how controversial Tomb Raider was.  Now it's the norm. I'm personally waiting for when nudety isn't taboo anymore.  We really need to get over religiously motivated bans, and teach some damn self control. That's what the US population has a real problem with. Relying on the government or religion to do everything for them, and having no self control because of it. Why do you think suicide cults pop up every now and them? Lambs to the slaughter.

I am a female gamer and in my fifties. I also read manga and manwha and have watched a lot of Korean dramas. Their culture is different and you cannot really get upset about these things if you have read manga and are familiar with the Japanese and Korean cultures you would understand this better.

Also guys will be guys why get upset about these comments. Looks like you lead a sheltered life. When guys get together the group talk always end up like this .Unless you have never been around a group of guys or they are all behaving most men when they get together joke like this. Besides if they let their guard down around you and are comfortable they will be talking like this. If you never come across this then most of them were just behaving properly but trust me most guys talk like this.

Believe it or not, many view the objectification of women as "classic prejudice." Actually, the objectification of women is likely the most "classic prejudice" in all of history. The fact that it is still so acceptable and normal for so many people only shows how unsuccessful civilized society has been at educating people about the potential long term pitfalls of blatant objectification of women.

We already know which audience it targets. The fact that you and a few others discuss this insignificant feature to death in no way means that the game will be made up of horny teenagers and adults. People find it acceptable for the sole reason that they don't connect 2 pixels with the real world or the society of it, some others should do the same as well.

I'll just say this one more time for emphasis:

I'm saying that this game is targeted towards an audience that finds that kind of sexualized artwork acceptable and normal and that I think that I will not have very much in common with that crowd.

And I also think that there are a lot of people that might also think that way based on what I've seen in this video.

Do you understand that your opinion is not the only one yet?

Still fighting over that video and what it means for society? Why don't we talk about how the males costanics have portrayed as rock stars (the sexually orientated ones) and how this is somehow displays hatred toward the male gender.

Good point. The objectification of males is becoming popular as well.

First of all, those guys in the video were obviously joking anyone who can't see this by now is a complete idiot. Secondly, I have a friend that despises this kind of art and has never ever seen any anime in his life, he absolutely hates it and yet he will be playing this game for the fun factor. He obviously won't be rolling a female tho. The only thing you won't be having in common with some people is that you won't find this art acceptable, do you have everything in common with the people you are together everyday? Most certainly not. And again, many people who don't necessarily like this artwork will still play it. Actually, you sound like you seperate the world in 2 kinds: those who find this artwork acceptable and those who don't. "eeew, I can never be friends with these people, where did they come from?"...lol...just lol.

So, just what IS this " civilized" society you speak of? A real civilized society would not use its educational system, as an indoctrination tool to suit the whims of various ideologues.  Objectification is what humans do. It is part of their internal processing system.  The fact that such extends to such a basic area as sex is hardly a surprise. Both sides objectifiy the other.  What needs to be learned(which takes time and experience) is to go beyond the surface. This is not going to be from some heavy handed "working on the next generation" nor from indoctrination at the hands of an ideologue dominated state.

I consider that video (and that art style) to be a source of humor. It demonstrates that the young adult Dev's and their target audience have not yet moved beyond the surface. But to take offense at that is much akin to cursing water at room temperature for being wet.   Human males(in even the most repressive, oppressive regime) have through out history demonstrated a fascination with the female form.  Lets let each individual couple work out their own education(believe me, women are more than capable of this... ^^) and leave collectvist abstracts like "society" to the ideologues.
