Bias and prejudice is a factor when it comes to an individuals opinion of something, it determines how they experience whatever it is they are doing.
" If a professional reviewer is being paid he is being dishonest" Correct!
"Seriously you are not making any sense" and "You are contradicting yourself." from your earlier statements.
So what you're basically saying is 'screw all the professional reviewers, reporters, journalists because everyone else can do it better'.
Hmm, interesting viewpoint. I guess in that viewpoint everyone who gives their opinion or reports on something and is being paid for it because it's his/her job can't be trusted.
Well, i think we should just scrap all the journalism studies or the whole profession of journalism or writing columns or reviews in magazines, tv, sites, wherever, since it's all worthless anyway. Good plan
Now you are just trying to put words in my mouth, that is a defensive tool so I can see what direction this going :P
Lets start from square one..
An average gamer will experience the game the same way other gamers do. Their feelings towards a game, bias or not will be part of their opinion. This will then lead them to make a review which is a 100% accurate and honest representation of how they feel about the game.
A professional reviewer (someone who is paid to write reviews) will censor how they feel in order to stay professional. Therefore you are not getting a 100% accurate and honest representation of how they feel about the game.
Reviews are not facts or summaries of a game, they are opinions. I would rather hear someone giving 100% rather than 1-99%
You really need to understand what being 'honest means'. You are contradicting yourself. Honest review is something which is not effected by motives like bias and prejudice. If a professional reviewer is being paid he is being dishonest but an average gamer giving negative reviews is honest even if he suffers from bias? seriously you are not making any sense.
Where am I contradicting myself?

" If a professional reviewer is being paid he is being dishonest" Correct!
"Seriously you are not making any sense" and "You are contradicting yourself." from your earlier statements.
If a professional reviewer is being paid his ulterior motive is money so he is dis honest. If any average player is giving negative review to a game out of bias than his ulterior motive is prejudice and he is also dishonest. How hard is it to understand? motive is a motive doesn't matter what it is. When your review is effected by such factors you are not being honest. Simples.
So no way an average gamer is more honest than a professional reviewer.
A professional is someone who is being paid... hence the term "profession."
A persons opinion is just that... their opinion, bias and prejudice plays into everyones opinion be it good or bad... therefore their reviews are an honest representation of how they feel... "How hard is this to understand?"
When I buy from Newegg or Amazon, I like to read some of the reviews to get a good sense for the product I'm buying. I listen to my friends when they talk about movies. Official reviews are nice too because there is a degree of professionalism and seriousness about them.
Ultimately, it's a personal choice whether to play a game or not. However, EVERY source of information will have a role in your decision to buy a product. Whether that be, reviews, OBT (try before you buy), professional reviews, etc.
I gotta say though, in the case of FFXIV, OB taught me to wait to get the game. Easy to understand. Then reading consumer reviews from the US and now Japan too, I feel my choice was correct.
It was my personal choice and it was made with influence from various sources. Personally that is really all that matters. People who offer their opinions in the form of amateur reviews are doing a good service, but as a smart consumer, you need to make your own choice in the end.

A person isn't lying if they are bashing a game... they don't like the game and they are expressing their dislike (aka their opinion). If someone likes a game why would they go and bash it?
You aren't suppose to take reviews as facts, these are peoples opinions of something. Take peoples opinions with a grain of salt.

Well friends, i've been here a bit longer than expected thank you for the dialog and restoring my lack of faith in the logic of humans (forums do that to people) xD
We are just running in circles now and sledging that poor horse. Lates...
I hate to say this but I agree, I have been playing FF 14 for like 24 hours now just to see if game play gets any better, so far there seems to be no social interaction much, the game does not feel like a mmo, constantly clicking 3 times to cast a spell compared to FF11 is annoying, the game play/lag is really annoying becuase my PC is was above their requirements and I had to turn down the graphics due to their poor programming. Also the game itself still gets lag spikes at times while just walking quite annoying.
If this game does not improve by the end of this month/launch I don't think that many people are really going to buy this game, although I have to give them credit that it is a lot better than FF11 on some parts of the interface, but other than that FF11 was better, because in FF11 you actually had spell casting sound effects, in FF14 you don't really have any good sound effects, some of the music sounds like crap compared to FF11...
Seriously this game needs works or it may end up like APB, and might take FF11 with it.
Its because buzz/weasel words make everything better. Advertising/Marketing/PR people know that by labeling things in such a way, a negative can suddenly appear to be a positive. 'Niche' is used in MMIO's as a qualifier for 'very small amounts of people' by fans/PR to make the fact that a game isn't widely liked by players sound better by making it instead sound like it was 'aimed' at a specific type of player.
"Niche" means much more than that, actually. It's a word that you use when you understand that it's very difficult to entice players away from an existing MMORPG, because that's where all their friends at, where they have invested hundreds of hours leveling up a character, ect. Consequently, what you do is try to entice players who haven't tried or are alienated from the existing MMORPGs, in other word, you try to indentify unclaimed niches.
Final Fantasy XIV is coming at the game post-Warhammer Online, post-Age of Conan, post Lord of the Rings Online. Many games which have tried to copy World of Warcraft, and didn't manage to wrest way more than the average EverQuest clone. Consequently, any developer worth their salt knows that copying World of Warcraft just doesn't work.

Shoot, even when I provide evidence that they have, in fact, deliberately aimed for a niche, you don't believe they deliberately aim for a niche? "Anyone who wants to play" is very much a niche... once you start to break down the factors of why they'd want to play. If you're a game developer, these factors are something you are paid to consider and try to understand, constantly, on every level of the game.
You are using niche as a way to explain away anything negative people have to say about the game. If someone says combat feels off, again, they are not part of the niche the game was designed for. You use niche as a way to disqualify other peoples opinions. But there are people out there who liked the idea of the game, liked the way aspects sounded and then were unsatisfied by the game when they played it. It happens. And their opinion on the game, no matter if you like it or not, is still valid. 'Niche' 'Casual' 'Hardcore' etc won't change that.
The devs state they are aiming for players who have never played an MMO, players who play casually and players who enjoy the hardcore type game play. I don't however, see the devs stating that they only want a specific player, because that would be suicide for a game, especially if the game doesn't appeal to that type of player.

Yeah, I did but it was to make a point, namely that both can have their merits when regarded in the right light: professional reviews are often more objective and prone to summarise both good and bad aspects of a game, but will be more 'diplomatic' in use of words and language, while non-professional reviews have no such inhibitions and will/can be fully onesided, emotionally colored, biased or vague as they like.
It's where someone's preference lies in making up their mind, that's different for everyone.

One big mistake on their part is not having an official forum.
Official forum is the fastest way to gather feedback on your customers, not having one is admiting that you don't care much about player feedback because you are not planing on catering to your player base and change the game to suit their gaming needs.
That's arogant and it's going to cost them.
You know that ANet (GW2) doesn't have an official forum too, right?
Just saying official forums aren't the end all and be all of things.

I'm trying to add something yes, I'm trying to add common sense, logic and reason that fanbois seem to lack.
Japs don't like the game, fact.
Accept it, don't try to come up with silly excuses and trying to dispute reviews, you are not fooling anyone but yourself
You are not trying to add any common sense because common sense dictates that when you dislike something you should move on to better things. Common sense also dictates that there is not a single thing in this world which is loved by everyone. Common sense also dictates that reviews are opinions and one should make up their own mind. Common sense also dictates that when someone over uses words like 'fanboy' in every post they shouldn't be taken seriously. There are two sides to every coin, but i guess if you had common sense you would know all of that?

[He wrote other things, but seeing how his goal is apparently to try to convince me of this delusion he's having, they didn't bear reading or repeating.]
I think not having an official forum is likely to hurt a game pretty badly. Especially when the game is receiving overall unfavorable reviews.
That's what I said earlier in this thread about FFXIV so he is trying to make me angry or something? )) I don't know, he for some weird reason thinks I'm a GW2 fan and will get angry or something?
I dunno what's his thinking..
Children will be children I guess.

No, I'm not, try again.
Yes you are, try again.
Just keep driving that car, doggy.
I thought it was a boat. It's a car?
Oh, so now you're noticing what a difference of perspective makes.
Listen, if I were just using "niche" as an excuse for bad qualities, I'd know it. It's sort of hard to miss. However, as pertains to a topic of why we're seeing negative user reviews, niche incompatibility is a very fair reason. Users, unlike reviewers, are not paid to be objective.
Granted, I had a discussion with you not too long ago where you felt that people's opinions are more important than objective reviews, so I don't think you're of compatible mindset to agree.
You spend last 15 minutes of your free time redin my posting history and figured I'm a fan of GW2 and that somehow I'll get butthurt if you try to "hurt"my game?
Eh? I didn't read anyone's post history, why would I do that in this case?! I follow the GW2 news (see my sticky on the GW2 forumsection here, 'Gamescom and PAX footage', which you would have known if you'd looked there - the game you like? - more than you do here - the game you hate -) so of course I'm aware that GW2 doesn't have an official forum.
It doesn't seem to have hindered the ANet people.
Seems to me you're a bit defensive, accusing everyone that has a different opinion from your own of being a fanboi. Tsk, tsk, funny kneejerk response

Just saying official forums aren't the end all and be all of things.

No, I'm not, try again.
Yes you are, try again.
Just keep driving that car, doggy.
That's what I said earlier in this thread about FFXIV so he is trying to make me angry or something? )) I don't know, he for some weird reason thinks I'm a GW2 fan and will get angry or something?
I dunno what's his thinking..
Children will be children I guess.
