i wholeheartly agree with you mr cleese, and the facts that you are pointing out simply proves how lazy and stuck up their own asses SE really are. Seriously, faling to adjust a MMORPG to fit for the PC is like failing to optimize a super mario-esque platform game to run on a console. It was something you could get away with back in 1999, but not with todays market and competition.
With that being said, i will not be surprised if the PS3 version of the game sucks even more and makes the controls and interface in the PC version look smooth and user friendly in comparison. thats what they did with FFXI, and square has already proved countless of times that they dont listen to feedback from their customers.
Honestly don't see how that's possible. I'm basically using a playstation controller on the PC and have no issue. And, well this actually the second time they didn't adapt a game well to the PC in the mmorpg world. FFXI survived and I don't see why XIV won't as it's a lot better than XI was.
Facts, logic, reasoning does not matter to these people. They won't give up until the day SE shuts down the FFXIV servers; in 10 years when they finally shut down the servers all these people will be claiming they told you so.

hahhahhahahahahahahahaha omg, I think that another guy said it best in the post when he said that an unfinished release doesn't pass like 2002. Yea, a game these days is usually only as good as its release. Unless its like WoW, where it got even bigger. SE doesn't have the leverage like it used too and they are losing more and more clout with the exceeding number of bombs that they are publishing. I can honestly say that I have a feeling that this game may actually die of become a very very minor MMO in the scene. This game is crap any way you look at it. Ill say that there are good points in every game. But honestly.....a monthly subscription for this? Especially with all the other MMOs that are out there on the market? Please, people have options now. Even SE fans are jumping ship on this one. I should know, I'm one of them. Grab a life raft, this ship is going down.
What bombs has SE had recently? Also all the servers are still full; we won't know what kind of longevity this game will have for another two months. So, lets cut the crap.
By cutting the crap you mean SE? Yes, I believe its time to cut the crap. Mark my words, this game is going down the pooper. You know why people are still on the servers? The same reason I played for a week....I had just spend $85 and I was going to play that game even if it was a burning turd covered in hair, which it was. And what has SE done that has been crap lately? Uh, Kane & Lynch: Dog Days & Nier bombed. As far as their FF retro games, they are destroying them like George Lucas tried to do with Star Wars when he got senile.
If you are going to pretend that this games subs aren't going to drop off insanely after a couple months. Im game. Ill be here posting when they do. Its ok though, I can direct you too some decent MMO's.

Those two games where only published by SE, and honestly all publishers will have one or two games every now and then that do poorly. There has not been one unsuccessful numbered FF game period; that is a good track record. Once again someone is predicting doom and calling a game crap without giving any reasons as to why.
As far as server populations dropping; they will I understand that(this happens to all MMOs). But, you seem to fail to realize that their are quite a few people who are happy with this game and the direction it is going. That does not mean we are oblivious to its faults(because many of us are), but we do realize that all MMOs have to go through a maturing process and it won't happen overnight.

I've seen many times how square put in systems into games that made players (especially us Western players) go WTF OMG.....only later to find out there was a reason to all the madness and confusion.

They just about crapped their pants they couldn't believe it was so terrible. And oh yea, if you didn't hear. The top three most popular MMOs in Japan being played are Korean. I'm not sure why it's so important to people that Final Fantasy XIV is going to fail. I really don't think so. It doesn't take much for an MMORPG to survive. If you've got 100,000 subscribers, you've got ~$1.5M/mo. That alone will keep a good-sized development studio afloat. It might fail if they had taken out a gigantic loan to develop the game (that's how APB failed) but this being a well-established highly-prestigous game development company (don't underestimate Square indeed) they likely had the money to pay for development themselves. Sending it "down the pooper" is like killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Is Final Fantasy XIV going tot get that 100,000 players? Based of previous precedent, Final Fantasy XI was released in similar conditions. (Though we didn't see it outside of Japan until 2 years later.) Last I heard, it had about 500,000 subscribers, surpassing even EverQuest. Plus, Final Fantasy XI was not marketed to China - FFXIV is going to be released in China with Chinese servers. On top of that, I don't think you're going to run into the average player who tries Final Fantasy as being as picky as a hardcore MMORPG player, you're going to see a lot of players who try out the game with Final Fantasy aspirations, or who are sort of used to the way they do the interface from Final Fantasy XI, and so they're not going to be as critical.
This is why we're going to see hundreds of thousands of players despite the fact this is 2010. I do expect to see population drop off a bit in the near future because, in any MMORPG, you're going to see people who try the game and decide it's just not for them. 70% of WoW trial players, for example.

Yes they do. WoW and Eve both dropped before they grew again and both of those where not the normal trend in MMO subscriptions. http://www.mmogchart.com/charts/ you will notice that only a handfull of games kept/ and or increased on their initial subs.

You named two MMO's, in a sea of MMO's that did drop off in numbers, way to make an argument. Besides that, those are MMO's 5+ years old. The trend the last few years has been a peak at launch, a fall to lesser numbers within a few months.
That's reality for you. And all these MMO's besides APB that experienced a peak and fall in numbers still exist and have reasonable population numbers. That's facts for you too.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

So wheres the problem? I gave facts and you still want to argue? Lets put it this way. FFXIV will have a drastic fall off in numbers and it will probably end up with very few american players, and total players for that matter. There are still some companies that get it right by the way. So stop making excuses for SE's poor excuse for a game. By the time FFXIV launches for PS3 PC side will be mostly dead.
While I can honestly live with the UI. I would love a server in NA. I understand the whole globar thing but still have servers locationed around the world for latency reasons(especially when so many things are handled server side). Keep the servers open so people who want to play together still can.

The problem is that you mixed facts with bias and drivel, and thus ignoring the trends that have become common in the MMO business. You think FFXIV will be dead when the PS3 launch comes around? How ignorant of MMO history must someone be to be able to type such nonsense?
As anyone who has a sane understanding of MMO history knows, as good as all MMO's managed to be around with fairly stable population numbers after the initial peak and fall ater launch.
FFXIV will not do any less than a FFXI, L2, EQ2, or any of those other MMO's, and will still be around and be played by a fair sized population when the PS3 launch comes around. Just as all these other MMORPG's (besides TR and APB) did. That's common sense and reality for you.

Makes sense to me, except for one thing: Console gamers aren't MMO gamers.
I doubt the PS3 will get more followers than the PC, but I could be mistaken. Did FF11 have more console subs than pc subs?
But back on topic: All MMO's have a decline in players after the "free" month included with the box. But that's mostly people pre-ordering without knowing what they're getting into. And let's face it: With MMO's, you never know.
FF14 will be no exception. But I personally doubt it will die anytime soon, if at all.

I have to agree that doom and gloom posts are just over done, it is very difficult for a game to fold and a game made by a company this big is not going to be that game. Having said that though I don't see this game moving out of the niche that they created with the last mmo they made. I just don't see that this game is going to really be able to outperform the last one when so many who looked forward to this one are unhappy and neither one of these games appealed to a large mmo population.
I usually hate to be a tool and say things like "I don't like to play games with ____ in it" but as I noted in another post I just can't get into games where I'm paying to fight squirrels, ladybugs, sheep,etc.. I was going to try this game on PS3 but honestly I can't pay fifty bucks for a game with ladybugs in it unless it's for my daughter.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

FFIV will only die if they are not willing to put servers in the US and fix the extremely terrible UI.
While I can honestly live with the UI. I would love a server in NA. I understand the whole globar thing but still have servers locationed around the world for latency reasons(especially when so many things are handled server side). Keep the servers open so people who want to play together still can.
Edit: This was directed at DaxPierce's post .
