This only shows you know not much about Guild Wars 1 or how the content was offered to the players. It uses the exact same b2p model as GW2. They also specifically didnt add certain things to the online shop. Maybe look into how it was done with GW1 first so you learn about Arenanet and how they listened to their community, before coming up with your next 'what if' scenario.
Anyone can come up with crazy 10$ a dungeon what if scenarios. Its just odd that you can only think of negative possibilities.
Oh, and buying a dungeon in an expansion is buying a dungeon. Actually you buy dungeons from buying the first box. Why not wait first untill they actually announce what will be in the shop. That is something they do before the game will release, so you have nothing to worry about.
Well, I come up with negative scenerios because this whole thing is negative from my point of view. I don't want these kind of buy content cash shops. Why not jsut buy expansion packs like everyone kept on talking about. Nobody was saying we would have to buy each individual dungeon. Now the cat is out of the bag and it seems like GW1 people knew about this all along.
It's not what I thought this game was going to be. B2p is greater than p2p ... until it becomes a F2p/b2p MT game , you people are being way too complacent about this... You want to have a f2p game, fine then don't sell the game like its b2p and then run a MT scam anyhow.
I pay for the box, they got my money right there, so provide my content or give me a sub option so I get all the content. I don't want to pull out the old debit card every time they pump out a new dungeon.
LoL, it's ppl like you who are complacent. When P2P game releases new 'free' dungeon, ofc you dont have to pull out your credit/debet card - you already gave it to them few months ago ... and if you dont like that dungeon ? Well, bad luck ...
Tbh im fed up with P2P games. 1 year sub at 13 euro per month is 156 euro, thats aprox price of 3 boxes ! So you will happily pay triple price of your initial box, for content that might or might not be comming, content you dont know if you will like, rather than play for free and just buy things you realy think are worth your money ? I know whats better deal for me and no, it's not P2P model.
I don't want them to sell me content. I want them to do what they said and have me buy the game, and get the content. Then perhaps if they decide to release Xpacs with massive content , I will pay for them. All this buy as you go crap is not what I was hoping this game would turn out to be.... I didn't play GW1 for very long so I wasn't aware of this sort of system.
I thought you bought these games and they provide the content. Then sell future xpacs.
Or maybe one cool new dungeon every few months, with interesting encounters, nifty rewards, and cool storyline. Why do you assume that an otherwise quality product will suddenly turn shoddy in this one instance?

ArenaNet has already revealed that they’ll be selling Transmutation Stones, one-time consumable items used to customize your gear, in their cash shop. And although they won’t confirm if traditional cash shop items like XP boosts and fast travel consumables will also be sold, Flannum’s responses certainly makes it sound like there will be–if there’s demand for it from the playerbase.
This gave me a bit of a spook. I'm all for paying a fee to have an extra dungeon open to me with fresh content and all, keeps it fresh; but when you start selling in-game items for real world cash, it becomes a kind of "pay to win" thing for me. I think it would get to the point where true skills become obsolete, and turn into who ever has the most cash gets the prize type of thing.
I would be willing to pay for added content, but not so much enhancement items, maybe stick with ONLY transmutation stones idk, but I see where it could get out of hand.

No need to be spooked over it... the flat leveling curve already removes the need for experience consumables and fast travel is just silly... you can map travel where you need to go, hard to get faster than that. These things were thought up by the author. Eric's follow-up simply states that, in a nutshell, if the users ultimately do want something they'll consider it. That's the only reason they're not ruling anything out; they want to put the actual needs of the customer as a high priority.

I didn't see it in GW1 myself, played until factions (the only other GW I purchased). I don't remember any kind of cash shop in game at that point. I may have just never noticed.
Still I understand why they'd conisder things like this, yet at the same time caution from commiting to anything as of yet. Simply to see the reaction the consideration gets before commiting.
They have to pay for up keep some how, you can't expect box sales to cover all of that, expansions maybe. At the same time, expansions take time, simple things for cash shops take not nearly as much. Faster income is usually better in these situations. They've got to keep afloat long enough to release an expansion.

Expansions for new continents and major releases, such as Factions and Nightfall provided, in addition to the cash shop providing cosmetic items and a means to purchase (perhaps) dungeon expansion packs, for example, if they go the route of selling them? Granted, those dungeon packs would have to prove to be well worth it if they ever plan to sell additional ones, but it could work.
I will not buy dungeons or any other RMT besides full fledged expansions. It's against my principals.
The only one that will feel the pain of that principals is you.....
Thats not smart for sure....
That's fine with me. If I'm the only one willing to set and example, so be it. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone though.
Oh no, you're definitely not alone.

The fact that you think buying an expansion is any different from buying any other kind of content for a game is pretty funny.

WoW - Not only does WoW have an item shop that sales fluff and mounts it also has the whole Loot Card thing. There is a collectible trading card game that has special loot cards which you can find a code on. That code gives you access to special in game items.
Monthly Fee, Buy to play, Buy expansions, Buy trading cards and an Item mall.
Aion - Aion's shop has gotten a bit of goodies lately. One is a pet that will detect nearby enemy players (sounds a bit needed to me lol). Then of course the traditional fluff and services.
Buy to play, monthly fee, buy expansions, needed item on item mall.
FFXI - FFXI has had fluff and services but has also been adding little add on scenarios for you to buy on top of there expansions.
Buy to play, monthly fee, buy expansions then of course DLC lol.
STO and CO - Well I don't think I have to write much here seeing as everyone by now should know how greedy they are.
Any SOE game basically - Read the comment above for STO and CO.
City of Hero's/Villains - Well here's another that has fluff and services but has a lot of other items on there online shop.
Buy to play, monthly fee, buy expansions, then of course an online shop with power packs, items, etc.
So basically, all I can think of dude is that your complaining that Anet is deciding not to charge you a monthly fee?
Seriously thats what it boils down to, instead of charging a monthly fee on top of the in game items and DLC for you to buy and charging you for expansions they decided to remove the monthly fee and your ticked and sticking to your principles?
The only games that deserve a bit of respect for there business models and the only ones that fall outside of this massive money grab crap are....
EvE - Buy initial game, pay monthly fee, free expansions
GW - Buy initial game, buy expansions, no monthly fee.
And non of the 3 have any game breaking items in there online stores.
GW2 will be a 4th for that list.
Get a clue, Anets doing the same as every other pay to play MMO business model wise except that they aren't going to charge you the monthly fee on top.
Loot cards in wow or any other microtransaction service does not give you any in-game advantage whatsoever.
Content should never be something that some buy and some don't. Cosmetics items are fine though.
This is a process all MMORPGs go through though, they try to WOW you with their visions for their game, they try to STUN you with some gameplay trailers or demos, and then they start slowly incorporating the unpleasent features after you are hyped up about the game and probably won't quickly discard the idea of playing it.
Selling dungeons is really tacky to me, and it is not innovative for a new era of mmos.
Like what is the point about bragging that your MMO doesn't require a subscription fee when you have other gimmicky ways you try to nickel and dime people.
Loot cards in wow or any other microtransaction service does not give you any in-game advantage whatsoever.
Owww but it does, it gives you ingame titles etc like the amount of pets, mounts etc, which is all part of content thus have to pay extra for content if you are in titles and such.

There is no gameplay advantage to having titles. It does not make your character more proficient... it is simply cosmetic.
I think I am going to sit back here and wait and see what ArenaNet does.
So far, there is nothing game changing (other than storage panels) in the Guild Wars online store. I am hoping that it stays that way for Guild Wars 2.

I thought getting an Epic Flying Mount without the need to grind it out like everyone else would be an advantage but I could be wrong. You might be right.
And as far as "Content should never be something that some buy and some don't." are you suggesting they do away with expansions? FFXI you would run into people all the time that couldn't go to White Gate or places like Korroloka tunnel because they didn't have the expansion (This was still happening a few years after launch ). Are you saying people shouldn't be allowed to continue to play unless they buy the expansions, or are you saying that MMO expansions should be free and included in your sub?
To give you an idea of how easy it is to get an epic mount in WoW I present you with a tale.........
"In an attempt to make her character stronger in the online game of World of Warcraft, a woman prostituted herself. Needing 5000 gold to purchase an 'Epic Flying Mount,' one of the fastest mounts in the game, she offered anyone, male or female, playing on her server the opportunity to perform a variety of sexual acts in exchange for the in-game currency. In a posting on Craigslist on 4/8/07, the player stated that if someone were to transfer 5000 gold pieces to her account to purchase an epic flying mount, then that person can, "mount," her. It stated that she wanted whoever was going to do this to send her a picture so that she could evaluate the perspective, "John."
The posting player stated that her email was full with messages from peoplethat were interested in taking her up with her offer. In a response that she placed on Craigslist the next day, she scolded the other players for making such a big deal out of all of this. She stated that she was able to get both things that she was looking for. She wanted both a mount for her character, and one for herself."

IF they want to sell expansion packs in a store then i am all good. (all for digital downloads instead of all them boxes anyways)
