If Wow ever decides to give soloers progressive content for progressive rewards at endgame (just like the do until the level cap), then I'll consider resigning. Until this group up or give up endgame mentality goes away, I won't be back.
Why play an mmo if you don't like grouping?
The concept of forced grouping was not common until the advent of Everquest. There are many mmorpgs to this day that do not use a forced grouping system. That system is only useful in holy trininty progression systems.
What they need for me is this.
* I need way more advenced talent trees. I want to see every oddball spec in existence. Chain linking talents and creative tactical philosophies. I dont care if it makes it harder to faceroll mob bosses. Which to me is what this is really about, facerolling mob bosses. They also cut out PVP rather than deal with the horrible balanceing problems. This is also not ok with me. Competitive pvp in wow was bad enough in wotlk without them totally dropping the ball. They pretty much stripped the prestige away from Arenas out of spite.
* World pvp. I liked it, I would like to continue doing it. No WG is not world pvp and niether are BGs. Yes this means I want to kill you while your afk chatting in town or fishing. No I dont care if it makes you sad. Nothing can replace a well timed ambush from under water . Or stalking someone and or being hunted down after killing someones alt. Priceless.
*If you wanted to start from scratch -- Then why not get rid of all these broken armor sets. Get rid of the over the top armor stats and scale every piece of armor down from 70 to 85. Part of the problem with WOW today is throwing game balance out the window for armor stats.
*Flavor of the month trades and useless low end craftables. I think everyone understands what I mean by this.
*I dont trust GCs judgement, one bad call after another is all I saw on wotlk. Even Kalgan would be an improvement. Needless to say he has been there too long. They really need someone with a new perspective because at this point I feel like I am on a private server. And GC is some spiteful little kid whos dad owns the server.
*Quality before Quantity, hunters now get a suitcase of pets. But their pvp mechanics are a joke now. Mounts are now better and faster than ever. Which is meaningless since you can cover the entire map in less than a few hours now. New professions and old professinos that needed improvement from the ground up. Edited talent tree but still bad or underpowered end tree talents. New races and class combinations. But some classes remain broken since BC.
*Special Ed Classes, because lets face it Paladins and probably even Mages at this point are so god awfully easy to play it makes me sick. On top of that they make them harder to kill every patch. Class popularity in WOW breeds stupidity of class mechanics. Just another reason I have to not like GC.
A lot of these people posting haven't even touched the game in years or don't even play it.. Yes, you should come back in Cataclysm or right now. In a week or two at the least there will be the patch that changes the world and including a lot of Cataclysm events. All the people complaining about the class changes and that they won't be coming back because of it is just sad. All of the changes are for the better. Even I was iffy about the changes at first, but who really wasn't? Now I like the changes.
Plus with the Justice Point system you could rack those up until Cata hits so you can be ready. Since you played in 08- you may find a pretty penny in your Mail.

Nice carrot on a stick you threw in at the end.
But I still know people that play and still read the WOW forums. The things so far that were broken in the last expansion. Are still broken. No amount of carrot chasing will fix that. Believe me I paid my dues with carrot chasing. Until I read a bunch of forum posts saying "OMG finally my class isnt broken anymore" I'm not touching it.
You want to get a bunch of old players back into the game? Here you go, abracadabra, we fixed Enhancement. You can now PVP again. That is a sub increase right there.
Many people have had unnadressed gripes since wotlk and since the pre wotlk patch. The wait and see carrot on a stick approach probably wont work with them at this point. All Cat seems to do for some people or specs is make their problems worse. It will probably take actual proof of improvement to get them back.
HAHA would love to come back if my account had not been hacked into a oblivion and I simply called Blizz and had them delete the account from their databases. Way to GO for security.

Noting the text highlighted in red above, you will never come back. After every patch, and especially with every release, the forums posts are always going to be filled with "What is wrong with Blizzard? My class is more broken than ever...". You will never find a time when everyone universally says that their class is good...it is typically along the lines of "Rock is overpowered, paper is fine, please fix me. -signed scissors".
I walked out shortly after Wrath was released, but I have recently resub'd. I think the changes overall are improvements (with the talent trees being a notable exception). I've seen threads about how every one of the classes are borked, and someone else's class got all of the love. After fiddling around in PvP on my old 80s, I'm not seeing anything massively out of sync...and playing lvl 80s PvP with early Wrath gear is definitely no picnic (basic honor point gear has substantially improved stats over what is on my toons). Playing PvP on a couple of my lower level toons just reinforces with me that the posts on the forums are largely nonsense (I've been giving about as good as I get).
If Wow ever decides to give soloers progressive content for progressive rewards at endgame (just like the do until the level cap), then I'll consider resigning. Until this group up or give up endgame mentality goes away, I won't be back.
No offence but may I recomend Diablo 2, Torchlight and when it comes out Diablo 3? The reason WoW's solo leveling content is awsome is because it allows you to level your character even if there is no one interested in doing the quests you are on. As far as endgame goes though if your not at all interested in multiplayer why not play an RPG?
I don't want to derail the thread. But it's fair to say I played Wow for a few years, and have been playing MMOs for at least a decade. So, obviously, there's something for me to enjoy as a soloer in MMOs. I just the 'yeah you can solo til the end, but that's about it' mentality. Suffice it to say there are many, many reasons to play an MMO and not group up.
In any event, the OP asked the question, and I gave my honest answer.
meh i recently returned to the game and having fun for now atleast. i quit not long after Magister's Terrace came out, went back tried Wrath didn't last a month before quitting again. not sure why i'm enjoying it now, might just be because i hadn't played any mmo really much in the last couple years.

Yep, OP asked the question and you answered it, lets keep the solo Vs grouping in some other thread.
But you do have a point, Wow is really solo friendly until you hit levelcap and then nothing, that makes no sense whatsoever. Either take away soloing or make something for them to do after you hit levelcap too, and this is not just Wow.
Myself I play both styles, all my really fun moment is in groups but I can enjoy doing some stuff myself too.
Cataclysm looks nothing like vanilla of what I've seen. There are other MMOs, out there, or upcoming, that are MUCH more like Vanilla 2.0.
On another note, I'm not stuck with a guild or group of players that play WoW ( which I think is the biggest reason why people don't leave that thing it has become) for something better (game or non-game).
1. Cata is only new content, is limited, and is not exactly game-changing. WoW will still be WoW after cata. 6 months after release and people will be bored again.
2. WoW is still WoW and poses a security threat to those of us who don't want to be exposed to the many viruses and keyloggers people make to try to hack accounts. I refuse to pay extra for a little tool to prevent getting hacked, even after getting hacked twice. My computer has to stay secure for my job, and wow threatens that security and my job. Sadly, the game is too popular for it's own good.
Actually, now that you mention it....WoW is the only game that I've ever received multiple fake "Blizzard" e-mails telling me that my account has been comprimsed and that I need to click on the link below and login, answer some security questions, and update my personal information to sort everything out.
Of course, rather than click the link, I go to the actual WoW website, from time to time, myself and see that my account is fine. I've played many MMOs over the years, but I only receive scam e-mails for WoW.
I've already stated my reasons for not coming back to WoW. It's a great game, but as silly as it seems I almost wish I had never played.

I'm most likely going to buy Cataclysm. How easy/hard the game is (questing, killing mobs, endgame) will determine if i will stay. If questing/ killing mobs is as easy now with the new talents then i'm gonna say fuck it. It's seriously not fun just 2 shotting mobs rinse and repeat.

Number two is a very interesting point. How does one acquire said virus or keylogger? Is it from within the game itself? Well, obviously it cannot be from within the game itself. Is it from the WoW website? Well, again, it obvioulsy cannot be from the WoW site.
So again how does WoW pose a security threat?
Is it a case of catching a virus/keylogger from a rogue advertisement on an addon site or perhaps some good old fashioned cross scripting? That is not solely the realm of those sites related to WoW and have nothing to do with whether you have played WoW or not.
Perhaps one of those fake Blizzard emails directing you to a website? Those emails that you often receive on email accounts that you have registered for some game related site and an account that may have never been related to your WoW account? Perhaps it is one of those messages you receive in game that state you have violated the ToS/EULA or the like - with an oddly spelled name and atrocious English...and actually going to the site listed there?
It comes off rather odd that you would say that your computer has to stay secure for your job and state that WoW threatens that security (which threatens your job)... for oh so many reasons - none having anything to do with WoW.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Ooops, I voted despite quitting in 2009....but I'm not sure the 2008 benchmark is all that relevant.
I quit, and 2 months later uninstalled. Haven't been tempted by Cataclysm since they got rid of the Path of the Titans tbh. I am interested to see the changes to the old world, but I have enough friends still playing that I can (and no doubt will) see a lot of them over their shoulders.
Oh and lest Arnstrong come in a-blasting, I played Wintergrasp a LOT, and it wasn't enough to keep ME in-game.
Use figures all you like to pump up your game, but numbers are irrelevant because the sheer force of 12 MILLION SUBS is not enough to keep me playing a game I no longer get any enjoyment from. I spend my money on the games I enjoy instead.
I have no problem with people liking WoW, I like chatting to my friends about what's coming up in Cataclysm, but my interest ends there.
What I do take issue with is the insistence (not from the OP, who was honest about his surprise at finding fun in Azeroth again) that there's somehow something wrong with anyone who no longer enjoys a particular game. C'mon, it's a game, not your personal honour....
mine ran out this month and it wont be getting renewed in the distant future.
speaking of hacking and keyloggers i got hacked twice also the last time i got hacked i don't actually know how it happened but the first time was off an e-mail by blizzard itself, so now i don't open any e-mails from them.
Will be getting CATA just to check out the new races, zones and other stuff until i get bored again.
Been playing WOW until TOR comes out and even though I did the 6 month sub, it runs out in March 2011 at which time I might not bother renewing since most likely will be playing TOR instead.
Someone mentioned in another post about account hackings. You all know how to use your common sense? it is that grey matter that is between your ears.... 1000% of the people that get thier accounts hacked are those that go into extreme panic mode when they get a email telling them bad things will happen to them if they do not do something about it, all those emails are fakes. People nowadays just do not bother to learn to tell the difference between a real email and a FAKE email. Also Authenticators is a scam, blizzard does not want to let folks know that it has been already compromised by hackers (go ask your nation's cyber law enforcement dept about it). Do not share passwords with anyone, use Firefox and other browsers other then Internet Explorer which still has a ton of security holes that you drive a 747 through it. Learn to use good anti-virus software, anti-malware software (not the freeware crap, for hackers have learned to attach keyloggers to freewares waiting for fools like you to install it). I use Key Scrambler for example, password protection and other nice security plugins that firefox offers for extra protection.
Learn to use the tools provided to you, you might have to pay some $$$ but in the long run, you are protecting yourself and your family.
There is one thing I once talked about on the WOW forums that if ever done I would consider coming back. If for only the cool factor. But one thing would inspire me to come back. Demonic Flight form for Warlocks.
Not a demonic flying mount. No. It has to be demonic flight form. Like some kind of gargoyle demon creature with blood and evil coming out of its body. It also has to resemble the warlocks color choices much like Druid forms now.
Then I might roll a Gnome and ride an Elek.
I however doubt they will do this. I am fully expecting some new Bubble ability for Paladins that prevents all damage for 2 minutes and heals the caster for 100% for 50 seconds.
Will be getting CATA just to check out the new races, zones and other stuff until i get bored again.

Seriously? First of all you can't have 1000% of anything and second like other people mentioned a lot of the hacking started when WoW accounts merged with Battle.net. Hell I wasn't even playing the damn game nor had any interest in the game (wasn't clicking emails or visiting WoW related websites) and my account still got hacked. So ya your logic is flawed and btw I let the hacker keep the account couldn't be bothered wasting my time getting something back I don't even want.
My answer is NO.I left the game and I have had no regret doing so and have never felt the need to come back.I'll better spend my time and money on more interesting game to come.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
I kind of enjoyed leveling in the original release of WoW, but quit after two or three months when starting to experience the end game instance grind. But I've been thinking that I might have fun starting a fresh character on a new server when Cataclysm is released. However I can't seem to find a complete version of the game being offered for (pre-release) sale. The CATA expansion says this:
This WoW expansion requires full versions of World of WarCraft the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King to play.
So would I pay $110 to play WoW again? No f'ing way. Am I missing something here?
P.S. I've also been getting a flood of WoW phishing emails recently. Am I in any danger of having caught a virus just from having viewed the email itself (not clicking any links in it)? I do use AVG, and it is supposedly scanning my mail. Thanks.
You can get the battle chest off amazon for 30 bucks and wrath for 40 so yeah 110 after cata but we all paid it if not more i payed 40 for wow 40 for BC and 40 for Wrath as well as im going to pay 40 for cata its just a downside to starting the game on the newest expansion.

Thanks.
You can get the battle chest off amazon for 30 bucks and wrath for 40 so yeah 110 after cata but we all paid it if not more i payed 40 for wow 40 for BC and 40 for Wrath as well as im going to pay 40 for cata its just a downside to starting the game on the newest expansion.
not at all. i think i've grown out of wow.
Plain and simple. No.
