A more transparent cash grab I've yet to see. Ah well. This should come as no surprise because EA is calling the shots, and yet I am still surprised, in a disappointed, heavy sigh kind of way.
It's so disgustingly easy to level in WAR, I have to imagine this is aimed at people unfamilair with the game, who don't yet have a 40 with equal rr.
Don't waste $10 on a level you can earn in at most an hour of playing. And like other people said, RR is what truly matters and there's no mention of that being bumped by the Specialized Training p
Have you no sense of decency, EA, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?
Awww...realy? Doggoneitalltohell! Why? Why? They are going to charge a monthly fee and charge for a Realm rank pack 80-100? Money grubbin bastages! make your gameplay better and you wouldn't have to stay awake at night dreamin' up shell games and deceptive packages to stay afloat.
Ack, well it just saved me a month resub to check out their last trick of copying "monster play" from Turbine. I guess I should be thankful. Ill go back to playing GW and Perpetuum. Thanks EA.
This is absolutely ridiculous, I'd say I can't believe they made actual levels purchasable but I always knew someone would do this. I wonder how much more it would cost to make it so I don't have to play at all? Oh yeah, thats free.
The only possible reasoning behind this decision is that GW and EA came to the conclusion that this game is hurting their potential games more then helping.
This is a definitive "we're shutting down WAR" call, and i guess everyone just got it.
I can only HOPE that the best IP possible for a fantasy MMO gets a proper company behind it.

I remember a time when I was excited for a game that focused on team PvP. Now I'm looking at a game that sells levels through a cash shop.
It's a jaw dropping change that just increases my distaste for Mythic. Whatever they are currently working on, I will never be a part of.

You can only use the $10 levelup once.
Are you sure? I was thinking that would make sense but I didn't see that mentioned in any of their descriptions.
Look on the page.
(Codes may only be redeemed once per account, excluding character server transfers)
I believe that refers to the individual "redeemable code" you get with the digital purchase. I would assume you get a different code every time, like 99.9% of other digital purchases where redeemable codes are used. I think people are interpreting this wrong, when what it really means is you can't purchase this service just once and apply it multiple times, but you can purchase it multiple times and apply just as many times.
I recently started playing WAR again and can tell you paying $10 dollars for 1 level isn't worth it unless players are extremely lazy and have money to throw.
Only bonus to it is that its per/account. So at least if you play multiples its a boon, now your RR on the other hand..
This is a major disappointment. Hopefully WAR shutdowns quite quickly, otherwise depending on how the other companies hear of whether this is a success or not determines if it makes it into other games. This effectively means TOR will have it, as I would assume that they are going to make sure it makes the most amount of money as possible. EA has finally done it and I always thought SOE would do it first.
If it is true that 400 bucks buys you a rack full of max level characters this is sad, mostly because there are people who would do this regardless of the lack of realm rank. (and I would suspect if this first cash grab succeeds, level packs for RR won't be far behind, likely by character rather than account)

What can I really say when players have been supporting this crap illegally for years? Just like RMT before, when players are paying for it anyway they can to avoid grinding for it. You can't blame companies for going down such paths, the players in a round about way more or less asked for it.

Didn't even know that WAR had RMT. A new low I guess.
What a shame, this game could have been so great but now they are just milking the last drop from the tiny playerbase.

Doesn't surprise me in the least that EA was the first to do this on a MMO such as this.
EA is quickly becoming know as the "King of Cash Shops" or the "Colossus of Cash Grabbing".
They've also proven time and time before people will absolutely buy this crap.

Pretty sad to do this. Especially being one level. It's so easy to level in this game too.

Not quite, you fork out around $400 and ALL your characters past and future get those levels.
Oh... my... God. That's even more insane.
I'm glad I never spent money on this game. It sickens me.

Now if it was 10 levels, I am game
This is actually smart, you know how many players will do this.. Get what you can is the old business practice.
Now will I do it, of course not, but you will have players that will, especially players at the 39th level.

If some lazy bastard wants to buy a level let him. Its not money out of my pocket and it does not impact me in any way.
I didn't actually laugh out loud, but I did snort in approval.
This is funny. Nice observation, Gideon.
