This game looks huge, too huge, as in... looks like way to much walking and not enough doing actual stuff.

I have to admit that even though I like Tera and am planning on playing it, this game speaks to me a bit more.

Sad the biggest western MMO developer in the supposed forerunner-role is the worst case example for the innovation and developement of the genre and dragging everyone down with cheap and shallow pop entertainment, a marketing concept the black suits of other publisher are of course trying to copy hoping for high profits (which sadly turned out to be finanical profitable infact even at mediocore popularity), placing their own developer under pressure.

Agreed. The western games are always trying to copy what is successful even the ones to be released in 2011. The east is who will always be trying something different and will probably surprise the most even if this wasn't the case up until now.

Looks like it has alot of stuff and not much game.

Sorry bro game looks pretty bad imo, Sure its got graphics and junk. And whast with the review. AA is good but terra is bad... No one here could know anyway.

I do like their damage calcs (Tehy are acctually mixing it up old school) the reviewer uses poor mob ai as a boon....

PvP system is bad, asian, and gank mentaility atm.

Overall instead of claiming its good or badmmorpg ... ill just wait. But atm it doesn't appear more impressive than terra (unless you like to farm and build ships, and not in the swg way).

I don't know, the PvP AA will have is usually the most compelling if done correctly. (depending on taste)

Territory control and being able to build villages, cities from scratch / destroy them can provide a consistantly fun end-game for years if the systems are in place to keep it meaningful.

See Darkfall for a main example, it's political game is height of PvP fun for many players.

i don't get the hype in this game

yea..they are trying to do a sandbox mmo, but judging from the videos

i am not impress lol... combat is still the old click and cast system, art style is typical Aion like style

and the quest is still the same old textbook grind..]

if people are so eager and dying for a sandbox mmo, i don't know Eve,Darkfall and Mortal seems to be more "innovative"

Ugh, I'm not even looking to play TERA and even I had to come to its defense. First off, how can you make such a judgement about a game that doesn't even completely exist yet? "Gets it right where 'so and so' doesn't" is usually reserved for games that have an established reputation at this point, like WoW or Aion. Am I missing something or is TERA still being developed? Last I heard, it was.

I took a look at that article, and it looks okay at best. The videos were bland and uninteresting; the fighting looked terribly mundane and had little style, sort of like battles in LOTRO. It's still in early development from the looks of it, so that can change. But honestly, how could you ~possibly~ compare the graphics and gameplay of this to TERA? Boggles the mind, and all I've seen are videos and images of both.

The so-called 'political' interaction could offer something interesting and unique, but gamers who game in effort to take advantage of battle that's on a much more mental level (politics, commerce, etc) are niche compared to those that just want to kill shit. I don't know that it will appeal to audiences on a larger scale, especially since games that do that already exist largely on a very dedicated community of players that would never consider leaving their game (Eve, Entropia, SL, etc)

So, ya...I think it's a bit early on both games' fronts to start talking about how one is better than the other. Gamers really jump the gun these days. Wow.

Tera is for gamers who wish WoW had more open exicting combat style, better graphics and little more freedom in the world.

Compare them is apples and oranges they are primary targets are not the same people. For some reason people don't seem to understand just like all military shooters or futuristic shooters have similarites,Alot of Asian MMO have similarites.Just like Runes of Magic,Allods,Warhammer and Rifts all look like WoW but because game have a similar looks grahically does not mean they are trying to do same thing.Tera and Archeage are not trying do samething it is like saying Gears of Wars and Bulletstorm are trying do the samething.

I hope gamers embrace Archeage because it is the first time i have seen a modern Sandbox game have above average graphics fallen earth,Mortal,Earthrise,Darfall all don't make you go wow.It is a big budget sandbox game.Whether you have burned in the past by Asian games take a long look at this game,It sucess could open door for more of it kind.

And yet none of them hold a candle to RIFT.  RIFT is what all MMO gamers want in their game.  Ohh yea and plus its not some dumbass Asian Grinder with Anime combat that is as shallow as this thread.

Nothing about RIFT interests me. Save your 'what all gamers want' comments for a time when all gamers will actually want the same thing. Meaning, never.

    RIFT ON!

Rift surelly has everything mmo gamers want....from themepark that is.

As "spectacular" as Rift looks, its still just a themepark with your usual generic quests, reaching level 5245 and grinding in instances.

It might have some pretty graphics, interesting systems (and I am actually hyped about it), but sandbox it is not.

As far as I remember, all Mortal Online or Darkfall "brought on the table" was unfulfilled promises and letdowns. Both of games were decent, but, frankly, felt like f2p material.

As long as AA devs actually deliver what we are seeing currently, it will be thousands of times better than darkfall or MO.

There are already publishers for Taiwan, China and Korea. And apparantly there's some sort of negotiation going on for western market publishing with yet-name-is-secret company.

Rumours say that upon release only 50-60% of people will be able to place houses, the rest will have to fight it out!

i'm surprised there are so many cynics out there for this game, considering what mmos have been introduced lately/near future. This is a sandbox game that has player housing, player cities, player castles, sieges, naval combat, mounted combat, etc. etc. and people can't see the hype behind the game? Sure the combat isn't anything new, but i imagine for most lineage 2 players this is going to be the lineage 3 ncsoft never released. As for the "korean game" factor, this game is far more bold in its development and features then any game released in the west in recent years as well as the upcoming year considering the lineup of mmos coming up.

The korean argument goes out the window the second you learn that Jake Song is on the helm of the game.

The guy was creating and thinking up mmos before Ultima Online even came out. The guy was responsible for both Nexus(1996) and Lineage 1(1998).

Now while L2 was bassically ridiculous and genric, L1 was actually a very awesome thing, offering many things that many present-day mmos still fail to offer.

Jake Song practically shattered the ice on frozen sea, then separated the way through the sea itself and then paved the way for the commercial mmorpg genre.

IF anyone has guts, smarts and the cool to actually think up anything interesting in mmo genre its him.

ok, its Jake Song, the asian Messiahs of MMOs.

do you remember Brad McQuaid the western godfather of old-school MMOs? and then he made Vanguard .... promising, but at the end too many compromises and mainstream elements.

yes, its Jake Song, but unfortunately this could mean nothing!

Have you not played any of the recent crop of MMO games?  Why are you even surprised that there are cynics (doubtful gamers) for any game?

The player directed activity looks interesting.  So it looks like it has sandboxiness down pat.  The rest of it looks like the usual grindy cr@p.  It's impossible to tell how much each of those things weighs in the full game.  Is it mostly grindy cr@p or sandboxy goodness?  Is the grindy cr@p we see in the videos only a small percentage and the game is filled with meaningful themepark quests?  My money is on no.  Grind to level your abilities, hope somebody doesn't come along and burn your house down while you're trying to become powerful enough to stop them.  Even if the grind is easy, it still looks boring (based on the videos).

It is interesting that you can carry a three or four mast sailing ship around in your pocket with your horse.  Apparently you can have a catapult with four people in there too.  That is pretty cool.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Oh please, the guy had a great idea in 1996 seriously he was ahead of the pack, but lineage was just a shiny 3D version of nexus, and this game is just a (extremely) shiny version of lineage, hes a one trick pony,

he tried to do something else when he set up XL games and make some racing game, but surprise surprise it got scrapped.

Its his third go at making roughly the same thing so who knows he might iron out all the gamebreakers from his previous attempts. (i.e. botting in lineage).
