I personally had to abstain because I don't think it would be fair to any of the games to just vote based on favorites or bias opinion when I haven't played all of them recently to compare post to pre conditions. Even if I have played all of them at one time or another.
I love it. No matter what, WoW is always hated on in some fashion. It's like you were wronged by WoW personally or your family was robbed and left with nothing (for those 'smart' enough to say WoW robbed you of 15 a month, you're idiots, haha).
People who don't think WoW should be on this list are right in some senses, there wasn't a lot of noticeable improvement in game-play and mechanics...DPS still does DPS, healers heal (though different mechanics). However, there was A LOT of improvement. They did a complete graphic overhaul of the old zones (now newly reformed), added DX11 support (which can substantially improve performance), added new content, and added new combat mechanics and stats to try and introduce new styles of secondary stats available (and many other things you may not know about). Besides the obvious revamp of the zones and changes to them, they continuously keep up with the newest hardware and software. If you want some facts, there was a nice test done recently with graphics and processors (mainly linking for the Direct X info) at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-directx-11-performance,2793.html (a lot of this is testing with different hardware and irrelevant, just interesting!)
WoW haters and people who claim to not be WoW haters yet hate on WoW...well, do a little research. If you know this stuff then maybe you just don't understand what a graphic overhaul entails (not sure I do either...oh well). Granted, I don't know much about the other games, but I'm not going to bash them because I'm a hater...I'll just defend/praise a game I know about. And I don't even play it anymore...yet...haha. Enjoy your games. That's all.
From that list, i do not think anything can compare to WoW Cataclysm. There was little to improve in WoW and they managed. It is like getting whole new game. But WoW should make its own category, there is no MMO that can match WoW, for good or bad.
I also agree with many in this thread that DDO goes steadily forward, no huge expansions but solid improvements and content additions. DDO is the one to put there instead of WoW.
Why the **** is Cataclysm here? I play it right now, and I wouldnt call it any kind of improovement, this award is for ''improved game'' not a game which holds its standard. Its just wrong, and all fanboys will just go, woowww all changed wooow. This expansion is the worst one so far, maybe not the endgame, but new zones and such is in now way on scale with WoTLK and TBC, and those who disagrees just got bored of the other expansions, not that this one is any better.
The list seems a bit too narrowed and contrived. I tend to agree with others here. Why are names like Darkfall, Global Agenda, Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons not on the list? All of those have greatly improved over 2010.
I voted CoX. The moral storyline and the option to choose bad or good improved the game a lot. Though, I really did like the AoC expansion as well, I think CoX added more to the gameplay to improve the game overall.
I don't think WoW has 'improved' anything.. they have given plenty more content and rehashed old stuff but its the same as it was, nothing has changed. Now I'm not a WoW hater, I think its a great game, I just think its the same thing over and over, it knows what it is and doesnt really need improving anyway. I also think its too early to like how cata is guna pan out in the long run.
Aion gets my vote, for how completely different the expansion made the game experience. It has saved the game IMO. Removing a major grind is a major improvement.
You did not play it then I played for almost 5yrs and left for over a yr I came back, the goblin area was nicely done and the new quest area, under water and seahorse mount etc..
Its a whole new game nicely done, I was a WOW hater but after playing this I say WOW, AOC did well to but it just was not enough for me, COH never liked and Aion yes they helped the grind but still the same game nothing new really..
I say WOW, AOC made a nice come back with the expansion well done, Aion I did like how they made more secruity for us after over 10k account got hacked because of there account servers glad to see that.
While I am not voting because the only game up for the award I have played is a trial account on WoW, which I never plan to return to, I also do not really think an expansion that released in december should make a game up for most improved of the year. It is way too new of an expansion at this point and should therefore be applied to most improved game of 2011.
Read my post above. It's an overhaul. If that's not improvement, then please describe what improvement means. WoW didn't have a rocky start I guess, but you can consider the graphics themselves just...not good, so that aspect was (and will always be) rocky. I cannot count how many kids complain how cartoony WoW is, and yet hearing an experimental DX11 support and such doesn't get any attention. But with the improvements to those graphics and many other things, it's still improved. Let's not nitpick on the phrases used by the description, whether it had a rocky start or not, a game can improve. I wish someone would post details on some other game improvements done so I can compare and vote, or compile the ones listed. I'm too lazy.
Age of Conan for me. I have never seen an MMO turn it self around soo much. I Had soo much fun in RotGS this past year i cannot describe it. When i upgrade my comp to go max graphics on it ill be heading back to Conans world.
Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships Waiting on: Ashes of Creation
WoW really wowed me with the changes. thought i was gunno hate it but i'm actually really enjoying the game.
But the problem is, they haven't improved, they just went back a little to the original idea. In Vanilla days, it was headed the right direction till they wanted to make it a carnival attraction with their tokens and quick dungeon runs, etc. The game took a turn for the negative in the fact it took any the challenge out of things. Last time I was online, I took a small break and I couldn't get a group simply cause of gearscore and other b.s. The game community had declined. Now some say they returned to Vanilla days somewhat. But does that show improvement really? no, I'd say it's back on track and about the same level it was on when it was released. they seem to just rehash over the years basically resetting the armor and putting everyone back at square one with each expansion.
I didnt vote as I feel this has been a rather poor year for new games and improvements alike
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
Even though I will never be returning to the game, I played through the beta for cataclysm and it was a big improvement over the game I used to play, although some aspects were too much improved if you get what I mean.
defenetly aion... wow is still the mmo for skill- less people that like easy mode.. extension or not eve i can't really say cuz i haven't played it in years aoc would come second in my voting and the others ive never played...

So this isn't so much biggest improvement as best expansion pack?
For best expansion pack I would have to go with WoW.
Best Improvement for me would be STO, it went from unplayable to playable... mostly.
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.

Darkfall and DnD could compete with WoW's improvement, but they aren't on here. WoW is by far (on this list) the most improved.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan
the night falls and the wombies start lurking surprise surprise ...
I voted CoX. The moral storyline and the option to choose bad or good improved the game a lot. Though, I really did like the AoC expansion as well, I think CoX added more to the gameplay to improve the game overall.
i voted AION , it was either that or AoC... Wow just isnt my thing.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
wow cataclysm is the 1 and only mmorpg F**K every other mmo no one will ever be able to compare to wow!
You did not play it then I played for almost 5yrs and left for over a yr I came back, the goblin area was nicely done and the new quest area, under water and seahorse mount etc..

1.WOW
2. AOC,
3.Aion
4.Darkfall
The rest I could careless

What about WoW had a "rocky start" exactly?

Voted EvE by default since Tyrannis is not that innovative... at least like other expansions used to be.
But Going Rogue in the list? You gotta be kidding...
Even though I will never be returning to the game, I played through the beta for cataclysm and it was a big improvement over the game I used to play, although some aspects were too much improved if you get what I mean.
when blizz pays,u have to be on every list.
