That he says "for your consideration" doesn't really mean much. "Here's some facts for your consideration".
However, he says "thoughts" which implies "not facts", even if the rest of the post may come off as such. Therefore my conclusion is that he strongly believes what he says is right, but does not consider them facts.
Very interesting topic you have going on there, by the way.. here's something to help
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Give me an auction house, a map that doesn't take up the entire screen, and icons over the heads of NPCs, and we're golden.
I agree with the making of an auction house...but....the icon over the npc is a little too "hand holding" for SE (and alot of other's) tastes......that's not something they're known for.
"hand holding" is just a myth drummed up by jaded old school MMORPG players who think nuking MMORPGs back to the stone age will somehow bring back their fading interest in the genre.
Being able to successfully locate quest areas, merchants, quest givers, menders, and what have you says absolutely nothing about the difficulty of that game. If you put those things in EQ, the game would be no less difficult than it always was. It would simply be less time consuming. Devs should include an option to turn off quest markers for the crowd who would rather discover quest updates on their own, but calling the rest of that stuff "hand holding" is just silly and makes me glad I'm not playing the game if people share such an opinion.
o.....k? i was just saying that that they don't do that type of stuff usually...the "hand holding" part was just the easiest way i could think to put it. and i went back to FF 12, like DocEllis611 did and i did notice they mark stuff and were able to make it blend in. "hand holding" isn't a knock against any game, i was just using it as a euphemism. you could put the option of turning it on and off in any game but alot don't bother to add it, or if they do most people won't hit the toggle "off" switch and just yell about it endlessly. i actually agreed with scaling down the map and i've yelled about them adding an AH since day one.
the main reason the icon's on npc's really doesn't matter and won't happen...is...well why bother? all the leves are given by TWO guys in each respective city-state...one gives the battle and faction the other gives the crafting, they sit right next to each other. and when you go to whatever camp they tell you to go to...for battle you just touch the crystal. for crafting it's usually one of the 2 or 3 npc's there anyway.....there's just not enough quests to make it viable. that was my point.
Even if FFXIV never does as well as FFXI, it will still be playable for many years
No! It will burn without it's precious Western playerbase, just like poor Aion did.
Well then maybe they should stick to their precious Eastern playerbase and stay out of NA.
Oh, that's right. Even the Japanese players panned it.
Oh well, at least they still have the Chinese playerbase the game was designed for in the first place.

To those of you who are now getting your hopes up regarding the recent staff changes with FFXIV, here are some thoughs for your consideration:
Imagine the monster code that is FFXIV. Now Imagine a new person taking over that job as lead programmer. Realistically, it will take months for the new person to reach a somewhat full understanding of a code that size, regardless of how familiar that person already is with the general engine.
Thats just 1 single dimension of the entire puzzle that makes up the entire FFXIV team, but there are many more dimensions: Producer/Director,Lead Game Designer,Lead Combat System Designer,Technical Advisor,Lead Programmer,Senior Concept Artist,Lead Artist,Lead UI Designer/Lead Web Designer.
In addition to their individual roles, they also have to communicate and interact with eachother, thus each person will require some small degree of understanding of what the others are doing - this is also very time consuming.
My point is: It will take many months or even perhaps a year for the new core team to be "caught up" to where the old team has ended. That said, one can not expect any significant changes to the game to happen until that "transition period" has occured.
Now, if the new core team is any good, they will have reached the same conclusion that most of us (ex)-players have: everything is garbage except the graphics. Essentially, the entire game (minus the graphics) needs to be redone. This is so clearly true regardless of your degree of denial - even SE has admitted it by firing everyone of their FFXIV core team members and replacing them. Just look at the evidence and be realistic.
Given how long this will take, there is now also a very real possibility of the game being completely dead at that point and no interest remaining from us gamers.
Most probably, this game is as good as dead. Perhaps the new team will be able to "reincarnate" it into some more playable and enjoyable form, but that alone would take years to accomplish and it will probably be under a different title.
Good luck to all in your MMO journeys, they will most probably not be in FFXIV!
Sorry, but thats complete rubbish. Only the Producer and Lead Designers, Lead Programmer changed. The 'code monkeys' are still there. You really think they fire the whole team and bring in new people that have never worked with that engine? Even so, you think that their NEWEST ENGINE has no documentation at all...
Do you really think any of those people replaced wrote just a single line of code or know the code at all? These are all management positions, lmao.
The Crystal Engine is the latest development. I bet most of the console developers know it and know how to use it. It was developed for FFXIII.
You have no clue, but as always you are entiteledd to your 'opinion'.
Did I even say anything at all about code documentation? No, I didnt, what are you rambling on about? Try to think clearly and make some reasonable points. Clearly there is more to all of this than programming, stop obsessing over 1 single example.
Anyone with experience and some common sense knows its a large time investment to come in and take over an entire project that has MANY different elements, not only programming. Regarless of the degree of diffuculty, its simply a very time consuming task getting yourself familiar with what is going on and learning all the important details involved.
So please dont tell me that I have no clue, I was simply proposing some thoughts for your consideration - it was not my intent to make your head spin off your shoulders, however amusing.

You ask what Taus is rambling on about, as if it were irrelevant. But the majority of Taus' post was to refute what the majority of your original post said. His point is very relevant. In fact, what you accused him of doing, taking one line and rambling on about it, is NOT what he did, rather, it is what you just did.
Almost ALL of your original post would lead anybody who is not up to date on FFXIV development to believe that the new team would have to learn and familiarize themselves with the game as if they were coming from another division. Taus is saying that the team leaders have just been rearranged. They were already involved, and that is why they were chosen.
This thread was almost dead lol. I think some lessons need to be taken away from this: Don't start your post with 'just some thoughts for your consideration,' and end the post by saying we probably won't ever play the game in the future. If it is really just your opinion, then why is the thread called 'Reality Check?? ' Those are very strong statements, especially if you don't have all your facts straight.
But then again, Taus, we can't really 'expect' anything to be done properly from SE...not until there is proof, and even when there is, I'll still be skeptical for a long time.
The problems of FF XIV do not lie in it's "code". It's the gamedesign that needs to be replaced. Yes i said, "replaced" because a few tweaks won't cut it. I predicted it months ago and it seems to happen now: They pretty much have to start from scratch and they know it. Firing the whole team responsible is the final proof.
Well seeing as how the game is still online and being updated today (literraly today, todays the dec version update) without any of this "starting from scratch" stuff tells me that they aren't doing that at all.
And the whole team was not fired, the original director was demoted to LEAD GAME DESIGNER.

hmm, Update today is the first of the December updates and is merely adding new enemeies, new recipes, new Leves, enhancing the market ward more , adding a free retainer (doubling our inventory) and thats jsut what they told us about yesterday cos this little bit might have escaped your attention '
'For a complete list of changes, please see the comprehensive details posted on the day of the version update.'
Then we get another update in december, there are most likely that last of the update from the old producer etc and were pretty much ready to go, I then anticipate a 'State of the game' letter again in January to let us know where the new producer sees the game as going.
The original teams are still in place, new teamleaders and producers bringing in a fresh insight into the game
Still no Subs to be paid, tbh I am getting great value outta my CE, I also dont see need to rush to max level etc and will merely bide my time while they sort out the game.

They will probably have a fanfest for this sometime in February-March. January sounds too early.

I read the list - none of those things sound like they will add any fun into the game. You do play video games to have fun right?- just checking. Its just basic functionality and more of the same.

Well, nope he isnt tbh, not with me. he can talk rubbish all day to others if he insists on it, but I will tell him to shut up and not feel the slightest bit guilty that I am supposedly shutting down his 'rights'.
People with the 'right' to form an opinion are those people that have bothered to educate themselves on the subject and ideally have an objective view of the whole matter. Everyone else needs to sit down, shut up, and listen.
There is no genetic 'right' to an opinion, just in the same way everyone isnt 'special'. it's an invention of PC.

Please now. FFXIV sold around 400K+ boxes. If it hasn't lost majority of players then population should be around 300K right? my friend.... a game with that many players does not go free on monthly basis or replaces its lead designer.
I would be very generous if i say game has 100K+ active player base at the moment. That was the estimated number done on FFXIV core before SE took the option to check server population through party window.

Still no Subs to be paid, tbh I am getting great value outta my CE, I also dont see need to rush to max level etc and will merely bide my time while they sort out the game.
i guess its perfect time for you to buy the game isn't it?
Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible
Well, nope he isnt tbh, not with me. he can talk rubbish all day to others if he insists on it, but I will tell him to shut up and not feel the slightest bit guilty that I am supposedly shutting down his 'rights'.
People with the 'right' to form an opinion are those people that have bothered to educate themselves on the subject and ideally have an objective view of the whole matter. Everyone else needs to sit down, shut up, and listen.
There is no genetic 'right' to an opinion, just in the same way everyone isnt 'special'. it's an invention of PC.
Might start my 4th character in March, yeah. Not that I'm in a hurry.
not the point, what im saying is that theres nothing to suggest that their going to and start from scratch and replace the whole design.

Yup, I play games to have fun, and guess what *SHOCK HORROR* I actually, you know, have fun in this game!!
i know whowuddathunkit!!
It seems that either you dont have fun, or you just dont play?
If you dont have fun then mayhap its worth looking for another game to get your 'Fun factor' from?

Why do you think game has no monthly sub and lost majority of its player base? 'i am sure because they all went to greener pastures to look for 'fun factor'.

Yes, replacing the entire core team is no indication that they are trying to "redirect" the game towards being fun. /sarcasm off
Sources indicating Lost Playerbase?
and i like how you edited the F2P outta the statement again before I could chastise you Spoiling Mah Fun

I dont play it anymore because its not fun, however I do logon occasionally to see how the game has not progressed. Indeed, I have many other fun games to play , and I do play them.
Really? under what rock are you living for all this time? are you telling me game has not lost half of its player base? wow..so according to you there are 200K or more active players right now?

There were around 100k just before the Nov. Patch. After that nobody knows.
