Super cool understanding of my opinion there buddy.

I also apologize but I can't tell if that was sarcasm or not so I'm just assuming the mmorpg standard of getting defensive.

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

Rift will NOT be a smashing hit when it goes live it will endup in bin along with loyal fanboys preaching in vain on boards how good the game is.

We've seen this in WAR and in STO and in countless other MMOs.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Oh come now, I really don't think it's fair to compare Rift to STO, it's far from being that shallow.

As far as comparing it to WAR, well, I can see that a bit better (same engine, same memory leak problem) but even so, the Rifts themselves are not the same as WAR's PQs, they're more like WAR's PQs on steroids and with the ability to kill off NPCS, take over quest hubs and generally mess with players' progression (I doubt that people will be able to "ignore" Rifts as they could (and did) ignore the PQs in WAR).

I'm still on the fence as regards Rift, I don't think that having a lot of soul choices and possibilities equates to replayability, I think replayability comes more from having different content to experience on each character or at  least a different flavour to starter zones...and wider space to roam in. As it stands, you can level up doing rifts, but if you're questing you kind of have to do all the quests in each hub in order to unlock ones further down the road. You can also level up by grinding mobs, sure, but these are all ways players "get around" linear gameplay. Why not make the gameplay less linear to begin with? I honestly don't think many gamers would tell you that the levelling system in Aion was a major plus in regards to that game, and here we see pretty much the same system in place. That, to me, is a step backwards, not forwards.

I never played wow cuz there were EQ1 and EQ2 and later LOTRO and then FE, so no time for much easied game. But now i can see what that wow is playing some months of Rift.
Graphic side isn[object Window]t something tremendously new and good, but not bad too. A bit cartoony but less than wow.
What was not da best is some kind of narrow and linear world. Ya open map and see wide area but when ya start moving ya are in narrow valley and sometimes even road-wide area to move on. Nothing similar to FE or LOTRO where ya have big freedom where ya move on and do quests or just exploring around and hunt mobs or gather mats for crafting. Maybe it[object Window]s only starting areas and ya get more freedom when game expands. Maybe they see in future possibility to move thru rifts into other planes and have there epic battles...
Questing is still  very basic and very-very handholding themepark. Same old KTR and FedEx types and very linear. Also maybe it tho beta phase but lvling was very fast and easy. But even few months fun isn[object Window]t bad if ya think that those modern single-player games are maybe only few days til week gaming and over.

I explored and wandered around to gather mats for crafting. I also randomly killed the mobs around me to get those mats for crafting. The entire game is not a narrow valley, nor is the entire game a wide open plain. You have to travel around the mountains that do exist to get to other places. There's nothing stopping you from doing that.

I don't understand why people equate the linear quest track with lack of freedom. You have a choice...you can wander. In fact, there are quests "out there" if you wander and find them. It's up to you to find them though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I meant such a feeling of wide world like ya can meet in EQs (Antonica, Velious etc.) or in LOTRO (North Downs, Lonelands etc.) or even in latest FE all zones and areas. In Rift I felt like pressed between tight borders.

Maybe that changes farer from starting areas tho... I don[object Window]t got very far due i tryed many different classes and builds.

Well if you going to call the devs at Trion lazy you might include everyone else because noone is really doing anything mind shattering either.

My beta experience (not reading squat about the game nor finding out any kind of information and just playing the game with my own knowledge and experience) is that the game is very polished and i was amazed how well done it is.

For those that doesn't like it because they aren't pushing anything new and is a "wow" clone i only have to say one thing really. They aren't trying to do anything new innovative thing. It's just a polished version of mechanics already known to people. It's like what Blizzard did with wow. Took many good ideas, polished them and are trying to optimize them for a good gameplay.

So you will see alot of familiar things. I have seen all stuff in this game already. But usually in bugged down, and broken mechanics. WAR failed to deliver in my opinion promising alot of stuff and gave out almost null.

Combat is interesting. It's familiar but feels more fluent, especially the higher level you get and you have tons of fun abilities to use when you are approaching different circumstances.

I didn't touch crafting that much but according to people it's similiar to Aion in some way. And i got that feeling when i poked around in late beta with a newly made tank when i picked up mining.

User interface is rather okay. You can bind but you have to go into the interface to actually add more bars and rebind to use the new ones unlike in others (Lotro) where they use alt+keys or ctrl+keys.

Animations are great. It feels good to see smooth okay animations, stances, mounts etc. I hope it will go the same way further into progress.

Let's talk about the soul system.

You get a total of three souls to use at the same time at any given point. You can get more through quests and do alternative builds which you can change to with a click. You buy extra spots for new three soul builds for a fee.

You chose one main which you will put the majority of your points into. A secondary for some and a third which you will just have for the 0 point benefits. Sure, you could spend them evenly but what i've read and experienced that makes your build rather messy.

The visual. I ran the game on medium only as i wanted to experience the game and not stare at how pretty it could be. But it looks great non the less. I love how the characters are made. How easy you can alter them and the fact that the females doesnt run aronud in thongs and high heels all the time! Sure, i played a ranger and they had somewhat well dressed characters whilst my tank had a platebra.

    The rifts.

If you have played warhammer online you will recognize them alot (and probably older games but i cant recall where i have seen em) They are public battlegrounds where you work with your fellow players to bring down them. A rift can randomly spawn in your area and they are pointed out on the map as a whirlwind which also tells which level they are and if they are a less or major rift along with element. You get loot depending on how well you damage/heal/whatever in the rift and you get loot.

There is also NPC's from opposing factions that randomly spawn and tries to make standings in each zone. There could be bosses spawning and huge commander groups trying to take a hold of villages/points of interest. That's one of the things i really liked as they walk around as well!

I know it's hard to review a beta. But i will review it after i've gotten it and played it some more. But for a beta i'm amazed that the majority is already done and the upcomming betas will just test things and do tweaks.

For people that are looking for something "new" they shouldn't play this as it's the "same old". Basically a mix between WHO and Aion in some way along with some touches of EQ.

I personally was amazed with the lore and questlines as i dislike linear quests.

I wont rate the game yet as i have to play it more but as of now it could be a game for me as a casual player.

I didn't experience any pvp as those warfronts were not active when i played and i only saw three of the opposite faction which died fairly fast.

These are my opinions not having read squat about the game. I did not get influenced by fanboys nor flamers. If you have anything negative to say about my post do post it as constructive critisism is great and i like hearing other peoples experience :) But if you havent played or just played the game for an hour or two your experience of the game is almost null and you cant pass a judgement about the game.

    Cheers
