They copied WoW. Yay!

I'm not going to offer suggestions: I'm not being paid to create a game. They simply changed the combat system and shoved a bunch of "kill x" quests here and there. I'm starting to grow fond of the combat system but um.....lets take a look at the traditional RPG (even the new ones follow this formula):

Kill mobs to reach destination

Kill Uber Boss 1337

*Put story in here*.

There are parody games on the PSP for this (forgot what they area called) and they are essentially what all of WoW's quests were, along with every other game that was quest centric (WoW was the very first one I played that was quest centric).

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: What happens when you copy an MMO that makes 12 million x 14.99 a month before profits? You'll never win. You're simply going after the same piece of pie that the giant holds.

Right now this game's combat system is great, but I can play it for maybe 30 minutes alone before I get bored. Hell, the chick models aren't even hot. A few problems:

I feel like I paid for a dirty whore when I should have just stuck with WoW, PS3 gaming and work.

I even talked 3 other friends into getting it with me, I'm gonna get my ass kicked. And this is one more MMO that sucks to start off the year, I pray TERA, Rift, GW2, or SWTOR will stop this.

The fact you are suprised the quest structure of a MMO is the same as the quest structure of about every MMO with quests, suprises me. Not in a good way.

Since you hate it so much, can I have it for free, after all you are not going to play it?   :)

Nobody said I was surprised. It's really simple though:

Take WoW, change combat system, do a graphical revamp. Drop everything else WoW has to offer, charge $14.99. Who loses? Not me.

How about you give me your credit card number in this thread with the 3 digits in the back of the card and the expiry date. Then I'll post my login info here publically as well.

I don't understand where the shock is coming from. In a few hours? I was in the beta since the closed beta began and the quests were always your regular "destroy x nodes," "kill x mobs," "retrieve x items." It's not like they stuck it in at the last moment, it's been in the game since the beginning.

The problem is there is nothing else to do besides this.

In WoW for me it was crafting and AH whoring. I'm sure others were enjoying BGs and arenas.

What? When in the name of the gods did SOE copy Blizzard?

They copied EQ, their own game. If SOE copied any game it was Meridian 59 but it was Blizzard who copied SOE and not the other way around.

Both have stolen some ideas from eachother since, mostly between Wow and EQ2 but nothing major.

I'm serious, you hate it and I would like to try it, so we can help eachother. please email the info for the game.  :)

Thats whats amusing about people who rush out and buy a game knowing absolutely nothing about it, then come on forums to QQ that it wasnt the groundbreaking most amazing game ever created that revolutionizes the industry they were sure it would be.... based on the nothing theyve read about the game.

Err, I think the average person can tell there are some major differences between WoW and DCU:O. I'm talking fundamental differences in play style. In the end, all MMOs require you to press buttons until somethng happens. It's how they work.

    edit: Typing is hard.

it is an MMORPG, all quest are like that. Even years before  WoW  came out,  its always been kill this and get that.

Unless you want you play max lvl char right off the bat, there no other way to lvl.

From my understanding, crafting is coming but won't be in at launch, and an auction house will come with it. Not sure about battlegrounds and arenas, but I do believe they already exist in some form.

Personally I won't be playing DCU, not because of the quest structure (although that bored the hell out of me in beta, as there weren't many other bugs to come across), but because I don't like the action-based system in an MMO. The delay and effects associated with any MMO is not overwhelming in DCU, but it is present enough that it kills my immersion (like coming upon a mob from far away and their animations are lowered to about five frames, so the whole thing looks very jerky).

Yeah the jerky-ness is becoming obvious too.

I'm not a huge fan of DCUO by any means, but the game has more in common with Activision games like Spiderman, Hulk and Prototype than Warcraft. It just has some MMO stuff in it and you can play with your friends.

I'm actually playing Spiderman: Web of Shadows right now and guess what? People give you quests to kill and fight shit. OMG what a shock? Not in a video game! How dare they want me to actually DO things!

Yeah funny how that all works. People are always surprised that quests in a game are, get this.... QUESTS! Who could have guessed. Youre a) given a reason (such as money, power, fame, honor, etc) for b) completing a task/goal (such as defeating an enemy, running an errand, finding a treasure, etc), and then c) rewarded for it.... just like any quest ever in existence and yet are shocked that another game came out that has quests which as always consist of a,b, and c. Its kind of like seeing it pouring during a storm outside, then walking out and shouting in surprise that the rain is wet just like it was last time, and the time before that, and the time before that....

Don't really care. WoW is the definition of an MMO right now. Don't like it? Go QQ to Blizzard or the 12 million subs.
