after reading many of the OPs posts i think he might just have a stick up his ass.
if you think DCUO is a WoW clone then you might want to save yourself the trouble and leave the genre now, because you will NEVER find a game that is not a WoW clone.
Funny... the guy in the "horrible" thread suggested DCUO should've been done like WoW...
Umm SoE didn't copy WoW. SoE copied DnD. WoW copied DnD. DnD was the first Epic. WoW is not the first MMO. If WoW was so great why are you playing something else?
being an eve online fan, and not a fan of DCU, i call BS on the OP. Other than questing and gear which every mmo has, you can grind on npcs in dcu, in fact its very very easy too. I did it all the time in beta. OP's like this just feel entitled to cause misery amongst anyone who enjoys a game which does not conform to his opinion. DCU has almost nothing to do with WoW except for questing , which accounts for 99% of all mmos....even eve has quests (missions) which people grind on regularly.
The endless wow copying rants...... You're an idiot, plain and simple. Please read other posts and come to realize that 90% of WoWs elements were copied from EQ, UO, DAOC, AC1, and even recent MMOrpgs.
You seriously just said that WoW invented "clear dungeon and then kill boss"...... please please do us all a favor and delete your forum account.
Nearly every MMO out there, plus a few single player RPGs, have quests that are like that.
I mean, seriously? Out of WoW's insta-queue bgs and dungeons, emblem system, daily quests, gear progression, combat system, character progression system, and recently added phasing system, you're going to choose the system that's the most non-unique to WoW of them all; the questing system, as the one that determines whether or not a game is a WoW rip-off or not?
We all have opinions and every game has haters and fans. Something that i will never understand is flooding forums saying "this game sucks (insert any reason). Other thing are fanboys who bash any critic saying that its just trolling.
Play the game you like and let others play what they want. There is no written-in-stone fact which game is good and what not.
There you go folks. "They copied WoW"- no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Not "I feel like they copied WoW", not "this quest system feels similar to WoW", not even "here's some evidence that copying was going on". Nope, just "they copied WoW", and anyone who demands some proof for this claim clearly doesn't have the prophetic wisdom of Lienhart. Never mind that he immediately uses the predictable, flimsy defense of "it's just an opinion!" in his next post, while CLEARLY making this ridiculous accusation against SoE as a statement of fact. Unless Lienhart can prove without any matter of doubt that SoE deliberately stole content and design details from Blizzard and specifically rehashed them into their own game (he hasn't), then this entire claim falls flat.
And he frankly deserves whatever flaming he might get.
I would call your local law enforcement agency and ask what is involved with getting 3 restraining orders..At least then you will get out of this situation without the 3 ass beatings or a massive 3 on 1 ass beating. Sorry about your loss though.. moneywise.
No it was't. I really don't know what games you were playing before WoW but they consisted of 1 quest ever 10 levels of which you grinded 10000 mobs for. I really don't think there was an MMO prior to WoW that had a quest oriented leveling system. It was grinding. Yes, there is a difference.
WoW's primary contribution is not the quest system. It was to demonstrate that most people like to have "noticable" progression/advancement. WoW chose content progression (quests were only part of their mechanism for this) and quicker level speeds to accomplish this. A player could play for an hour (sometimes less) and actually percieve that their character had advanced.
You know one of the main reasons so many games "fail"? They don't understand that merely having lots of quests was a tiny part of Blizzards success.
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
I might be old and rusty but all MMO's i have played apart from UO and Project Entropia (They have ålayer generated quests now but this is a recent addition.) have had quests... and most of those quests concisted of either kil/collect or deliver stuff. And since i expected nothing else i am quite happy with this game. And the combat feels more fluid than in DDO.
WoW didn't create the quest system... WoW did not create the MMO. Also, there aren't too many options when creating a quest system. It's an MMO, remember that.
Nobody cares, and it doesn't matter.
Microsoft didn't invent operating systems, but nobody cares. To many Windows will be the operating system that started it all *COUGH*.
Same goes for WoW, nobody cares. For many it is the first MMO they played. For me, it was the first MMO that actually made things accessible to PEOPLE HAD JOBS AND SCHOOL. It was the first MMO game that you didn't have to be obese or anorexic to play. So QQ
People that know what they're talking about care. To say SOE is copying WoW is just not true. Just because you were young and inexperienced when WoW came out doesn't mean nothing ever came before it. Life didn't start when your memories began forming.
And props to Loki. I thought I was the only one alive that remembered Meridian 59, anymore.
I'm not going to offer suggestions: I'm not being paid to create a game. They simply changed the combat system and shoved a bunch of "kill x" quests here and there. I'm starting to grow fond of the combat system but um.....lets take a look at the traditional RPG (even the new ones follow this formula):
Kill mobs to reach destination
Kill Uber Boss 1337
*Put story in here*.
There are parody games on the PSP for this (forgot what they area called) and they are essentially what all of WoW's quests were, along with every other game that was quest centric (WoW was the very first one I played that was quest centric).
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: What happens when you copy an MMO that makes 12 million x 14.99 a month before profits? You'll never win. You're simply going after the same piece of pie that the giant holds.
Right now this game's combat system is great, but I can play it for maybe 30 minutes alone before I get bored. Hell, the chick models aren't even hot. A few problems:
I feel like I paid for a dirty whore when I should have just stuck with WoW, PS3 gaming and work.
I even talked 3 other friends into getting it with me, I'm gonna get my ass kicked. And this is one more MMO that sucks to start off the year, I pray TERA, Rift, GW2, or SWTOR will stop this.
You obviously have no knowlage of either mmos or rpgs that existed before WoW if you think this type of play system was original to WoW . But yes I agree there could be a case for more creative ways to develop mmo gameplay but to give Wow credit for that type of gameplay only shows ignorance of what has come before .

NExus Kingdom of the winds was before wow and they had the same kind of kill this amount of creature quests as all these other games you are talking about and WoW. Nexustk came out in 97.. maybe earlier in korea where the game originated.
Get off this copy wow kick man, if you are saying that because they have these Kill x amount of creature quests, that it must be a copy of wow? Than wow is a clone copy of almost every MMO that came before it.
So WoW invented the "Kill X get Y" quests? Really?
What were we doing before WoW? Because it seemed very similiar.
I take this guy did not play MMO's before wow, so he is not aware ... maybe he is y generation or something. I am Gen x, I played these MMO's before wow was even thought about.
The fact you are suprised the quest structure of a MMO is the same as the quest structure of about every MMO with quests, suprises me. Not in a good way.
Nobody said I was surprised. It's really simple though:
Take WoW, change combat system, do a graphical revamp. Drop everything else WoW has to offer, charge $14.99. Who loses? Not me.
LMAO. Here we go again with another guy that thinks wow started this whole thing.... The kill x amount of creature quests came way before wow...If anything wow is just some lame copy of everything that came before it, but in 3d and not 2d like some of the mmo's I played back in the day.

just like when i saw the new Street Fighter Game that just came out i said to myself ...DAMNIT they copied WoW...WTF

{Mod Edit}
OP, we get it - you hate DCUO and SOE. Every thread you've posted here is filled with inconsistent whining that doesn't serve any purpose.
Oh wait, I think I just profiled 90 % of the threads on mmorpg.com. Carry on...?

Did the OP really just call this game a WoW clone? A mod needs to delete his account, he's obviously mental.
Copied WoW? Are you retarded? Next because it is a game on PC will mean it is a WoW copy? WoW did not invent one thing on the OP list.
/facepalm
Maybe they just think its funny that you would make a thread about having a lack of common sense...

No MMORPG will ever stop the quests from being the same. This is in MMO's genes and it wont go anywhere.
