I'm not going to offer suggestions: I'm not being paid to create a game. They simply changed the combat system and shoved a bunch of "kill x" quests here and there. I'm starting to grow fond of the combat system but um.....lets take a look at the traditional RPG (even the new ones follow this formula):
Kill mobs to reach destination
Kill Uber Boss 1337
*Put story in here*.
There are parody games on the PSP for this (forgot what they area called) and they are essentially what all of WoW's quests were, along with every other game that was quest centric (WoW was the very first one I played that was quest centric).
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: What happens when you copy an MMO that makes 12 million x 14.99 a month before profits? You'll never win. You're simply going after the same piece of pie that the giant holds.
Right now this game's combat system is great, but I can play it for maybe 30 minutes alone before I get bored. Hell, the chick models aren't even hot. A few problems:
I feel like I paid for a dirty whore when I should have just stuck with WoW, PS3 gaming and work.
I even talked 3 other friends into getting it with me, I'm gonna get my ass kicked. And this is one more MMO that sucks to start off the year, I pray TERA, Rift, GW2, or SWTOR will stop this.
Quest based objectives don't start or end with WOW and in fact can have their roots traced back to offline rpg's so please just stop with all the "WOW type quests", Blizzard doesn't have a monopoly on quest based games they aren't first, last nor best I'd say.
As far as what there is to do in the game, I actually agree there isn't much which is why I cancelled my pre order too but to make a point of saying that you don't have any nor will offer any suggestions while complaining to the highly informed is pointless.
I think it fairly common knowledge the game was going to be this way so I'm wondering if you are one of those folks who will gladly pay fifty bucks just for the right to come on the forums and complain.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Dude, why the fuck would I offer any suggestions?
#1 I'm not being paid to do it, and there's always WoW.
#2 Do you think people who actually amatter (ie. developers) care about your rants or suggestions? LOL Look at the official forums. They've been screaming for a better profanity filter and better forum splits for a while.
#3 There are only a few companies so far that listened to their community and realized that good business = you bend over for your customers (unless you are a monopoly *COUGH* M$). The two that come in mind: Blizzard, and Hi-Rez Studio.
What? When in the name of the gods did SOE copy Blizzard?
They copied EQ, their own game. If SOE copied any game it was Meridian 59 but it was Blizzard who copied SOE and not the other way around.
Both have stolen some ideas from eachother since, mostly between Wow and EQ2 but nothing major.
Yeah!!! I love it when someone actually speaks from experience as opposed to those who think WOW created all of the PC Fantasy (or other genre) RPG and fantasy MMO models that exist.
You are 100% correct and I am right there with you. SOE copied their own product. EQ was doing this well before WOW came along.
Other than following the typical PC adventuring quest system the game has very little resemblance to the MMO industry standards.
Then there is the other thread where it is suggested that IF DCUO COPIED WOW MORE it would be good. People....shhhh... I tell ya. Gotta complain about something to be happy.

To be perfectly honest if it is just basically "kill x" Fetch X" etc it's exactly what i thought it would be. just a revamped CoX by a different company. Oh i'll probably still give the trial a go if there is one or when they do one, but i doubt i'll pay monthly for it, reason i stopped playing CoX was the repetativeness of it.

Oh well, maybe I will have a little bit of fun with it until Little Big Planet 2 comes out.
WoW didn't create the quest system... WoW did not create the MMO. Also, there aren't too many options when creating a quest system. It's an MMO, remember that.

Nobody cares, and it doesn't matter.
Microsoft didn't invent operating systems, but nobody cares. To many Windows will be the operating system that started it all *COUGH*.
Same goes for WoW, nobody cares. For many it is the first MMO they played. For me, it was the first MMO that actually made things accessible to PEOPLE HAD JOBS AND SCHOOL. It was the first MMO game that you didn't have to be obese or anorexic to play. So QQ

Last I checked, killing bad guys and recovering treasure was the basis of RPGs for as long as RPGs have existed. Every DnD campaign, every Final Fantasy, every Dragon Quest, every Xenogears, every Everquest, etc etc etc. Hell, if you read the comic books, most of these heroes are doing that exact same thing. They're fighting off villains and recovering treasure. What else did you expect to be doing? I'm really excited for DCUO. My copy is in the mail right now. The beta was fun, and it will certainly be more worth the money I've paid than the last several new console games I've bought. Remember Arkham Asylum? That took four days to beat. And cost more than DCUO on PC.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.

Arkham Aslyum's combat was polished. Combat in this game is twitchy as shit with flies on it. (I don't mean twitchy in an FPS way, I mean the animations are twitchy, bad, and bugged).
From my understanding, crafting is coming but won't be in at launch, and an auction house will come with it.
Weird.
I remember seeing the Auction house placeholders in the first beta (they even mention it on the tutorial quest they walk you through in the Legion of Doom and Watchtower), but I never tried to look at the auction house and assumed it was just there and working already. Are you serious it's not actually IN the game, but they included it in the tutorial?
I learned my lesson with FFXIV about "there is more content coming, just hang around". I would never consider actually PAYING for any game that said "Yeah, we are going to have crafting and an auction house. They aren't going to be in at launch but it's coming, so stay tuned."
That right there are two major elements of any MMO and not to have that at launch shows this game wasn't launch complete and many people have been boasting. Sounds like a rush job to leave that out. (scared of CO and Rift I think)
Why would I want to pay them full price for major features that are missing? How is an auction house (standard fare even in F2P MMOs) not ready at launch?
Are you sure they don't have an auction house completed yet?
Everquest came out in 1999 .The game that was copied was not WoW if quests are the complaint afterall it is called EVER quest
hmmm yes, the odd part there is that when everQUEST launched, it had almost no quests at all. There were VERY few in game. It wasn't until quite awhile later that quests started to show up.
I guess brad figured evergrind didn't have the same ring?

I completely understand what you are saying here. Personally I decided not to play this game after I saw the lame hero creation background story and the silly hopping run gait, not to mention how bad the wall crawling looked.
But I will admit that I am surprised that you seem to find it surprising they followed WoW's example. Exactly how many other ways to you expect missions to run? I can tell you that from playing MANY different games, from Single Players to MMOs, from RPGs to Shooters and everything in between, there really is just not that many different ways to do "missions". Basically you have 1-Collect this many of X, 2- Kill this many of X, 3- Find X and kill him, or 4- Go to X and find Y and kidnap/rescue him/her then bring them back to me. Oh and I gues 5- some combination of these.
Plain and simple these missions are supposed to give you some "mini" goals to achieve to make leveling seem easier/quicker, while still taking up time to keep you in the game and playing, thereby paying the subscription fee.
I personally am playing WoW right now while I wait for SWTOR to come out and I am hoping that SWTOR does follow a lot of the examples WoW makes, just does a better job of it. At the very least the art will be better and SciFi instead of Fantasy will be nice for a change, not to mention the Voice Overs (like DCUO from what I hear as well) will be a welcome addition. I think where DCUO may be failing for you is in the story telling aspect. If the "quests/missions" are anywhere's near as lame as the Hero Creation Background Story, then the game will have a hard time pleasing a lot of people.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

Really? A seven year old MMO has more content than a game that launced yesterday?
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
