So there's going to be a new progression server for Everquest opening up in March. This server will set the clock all the way back to the state of the original game. Grinding for hours, making corpse runs, losing all the stuff you were carrying because you didn't get back to your corpse in time, all of the things that you remember form the game "out of the box" in 1999.
So how many self proclaimed old schoolers are going to play it? How many modern "hardcore" players are going to try it?

Me, I am really looking forward to it
I want to do this .How does it work you sub for Everquest is it and pick this server ? My god this is giving me goosebumps. I heard about it but I thought it was like private not SOE thing but now I see it is SOE. I have the game expansion all the way to the cat race one so how do you install it ?
So the models are they going back to the old models ? What about crafting and stuff god my mind is melting right now cannot think.
Definitely ! Train to zone ! Chugga Lugga Chugga Lugga Chugga Lugga Choo Choo
I want to play but if and only if they try to bring back a classic experience at launch at least. Now I don't mean watching your spell book when you med (that's not in and that is fine)! Keeping the spells/abilities of the classes consistent with classic EQ at the launch of this new progression server is, however, VITAL to my interest. Many and more seem to be echoing this sentiment with questions of what exactly do they intend to do with this iteration of a progression server.
I believe they explain things in their "press release", but to my understanding...
They will start with classic vanilla EQ. 0 expansions. People will play it for 3-6? months, thats just a guess, and then the next expansion will be unlocked via TIME, not RAID PROGRESSION.
Previously everquest had a progressive server, but expansions opened only when Raid content was complete, this led to very experienced/powerful guilds progressing faster than the rest of the server, completing the raids and making the expansiosn come far erlier than expected.
So this time it is time released, the expansions come after a set amount of time. You install all the expansions, (or whatever), and as they are "released" time lock wise, they become available to use on the server.
Also, I believe that the server will be no Transfers, so all new characters.
As far as crafting and such, I have no idea.
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
The problem with these progression servers is the fact that they start to die as soon as the game progresses past what most people would consider "classic EQ."
Is this a timelocked progression server or does it depend on raid progression?
This one is not raid progression. It is Time Locked.

Time locked this time around or it wouldn't even be worth mentioning ><.
I want to play for sure. But, as others have stated, it will depend on which parts of the original they include and which they don't. I also want info on the subscription model and the cost to purchase the game. If I have to buy all current expansions just to play on the progression server, I hope I can find an all-in-one package for a decent price.

First thing...THANK YOU! thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Questions,
Is it really start from EQ.0?
Does this include questing and loot? ie not really much questing at all...and orc pawns drop a rusty sword!
Corpse runs and decay?
Hybrids not getting even one spell untill level 9!
If this is all answered yes then you have one sub already and possibly 3 more once i spread the news. Oh my god i'm having a nostalgia hit! That first time i entered crushbone! my first train! Finding the bandit camp in Lesser fay and thinkign "what a gold mine" oh god thers so much! please be real CLASSIC!
I don't really get the point of this poll though... ofc more people won't be playing it then will... thats just obvious...
I can only guess, and from the tone of the OP it's to somehow trash EQ or troll? I am not sure why anyone would bother though, it's not like it's a big new launch that threatens other titles
Congratulations on at least being able to admit you completely missed the point (which you definitely did)! The poll was put up by someone who formerly played EQ just to see how many people were going to play (or are even aware of the launch of) the upcoming server. While the servers launch isn't new, it is a big deal in that for YEARS many EQ gamers have been given little to no new game offering the things they enjoyed in mmorpgs namely a proper challenge and good community! Seems he's also calling on all of us self proclaimed hardcores to see whether or not we really meant what we said =p.
i have just read on the station forums and cant find much info on this other than that it will be a times progression server.
a little deflated now as there is nothing to say that loot, mobs, exp, corpse runs and all the rest will be back. It sounds like they will just open certain zones as they progress, but will have defiant etc....thats not classic.
I hope im worn though!
i hate to say it, but what a crappy time to release a progression server that what, people have wanted for the past year?
and they're gonna throw this up at the same time rift is released?
c'mon dudes, it's the middle of freaking winter. by the end of march a lot of us old timers are going to be mowing the lawn and helping our baby boomer parents with getting the patio furniture out of the attic.
as much as i want an oldschool experience, rift will probably grab up most of my spring and summer gaming time.
Guess its a good thing that most major mmos except wow give you everything when you buy the box.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
If they don't take out defiant drops then yes this would be a complete sham of an attempt by SoE to do something cool! That being said, hopefully they realize that as well and have found a way to remove them in this instance. Heck even 1 piece of defiant gear would be comparable to wearing an entire set of true classic equipment. I just don't see how they could possibly announce this server without the intention of removing certain things.
The should offer something like this for EQ2 and Vanguard.
EQ2 with EQ1 ruleset would be fun
If it wasnt a gnats nut before a potential TOR release i would.
I sadly started my MMO life with SWG so I did not get a chance to experience vanilla EQ and certainly would be intrested in it if not for TOR.
Now if TOR would just provide a launch date and if that would give me at least 6 month with EQ I'd jump at the chance.
If it's obvious more won't be playing than will then why bring it up. While my reply might have been a bit smarmy it wasn't intended to be rude and I apologize regardless if you were offended! I didn't quite get your post either which seemed awfully confused to me.
In the end the poll exists to do exactly what polls do! In this one it records how many people have an interest in EQ but will/will not be playing the upcoming progression server. What could be plainer?
Not offended, i don't get offended by randoms on a forum, I just pointed out that people don't need to act like dicks to make a point.
I not not sure whats confused you in me saying;
"secondly, you need to look at my post again. I said I didnt really get the poll because obviously more wont be playing it then will. I still don't, and the poll will still be worthless. The question could have been asked with no poll."
and
"Like I said it seemed to be said in a strange tone to me, hence the 'I can only guess' and the obvious use of a question mark."
seemed clear to me tbh.
I brought it up because I like the comment on things I see on a discussion forum.
Anyhow, no matter, this is a pointless pedantic squabble and I cba with it. Enjoy your day
POST INTENTION DISCLOSURE:
I read about the progression server on another site and didn't see it mentioned here on any of the forums. So I wanted to know if it was because no one knew about it yet, or because no one cared. If the poll is any indication, the reason is the former.
I myself never played EQ. I do remember buying The Ruins of Kunark off of the bargain bin and playing the tutorial, and playing my one free month of Everquest Online Adventures for the PS2, but I was never able to get into MMOs of that time period. Hell, I can't even get into most modern MMOs. Doesn't stop me from looking though....
I am so glad you did mention this. I had no idea they were going to put that server up. I played original EQ for 2+ years but after the expansions, I felt it went downhill bad. I will probably resub if they are really bringing it back to EQ,0. At least till the first expansion comes out, then probably quit again. The first expansion was what changed it for me forever. I hated the new loot rules of having to loot your spells, that just kills a game for me. EQ2 is absolutely horrible due to their spell loot system. Having like 5 different versions of a single spell is insane. Not to mention the pure greed of people that want your first born child for one of those spells. Heck, I still remember an adept spell dropping for a level 1 character when the game first started and they wanted 50 gold for it. Even the richest person at level 20 didnt have but like 10-20 gold. EQ1 was the same way for me and spells, ungodly costs and the worst part about that was that if you couldn't afford it, you went without completely and your character suffered for it.
Anyways, sorry for the rant. I wish they would start that new server tomorrow, I would already be there lol.
Already did this twice and it was OK but freakin morons kept rushing through the progression to Luclin and the game started to suck again. They should just make a damn pre-Luclin server and forget the progression crap completely. That I would play but I think I'll give this progression crap a miss this time around.
