RIFT Best MMO 2011

SorrowSorrow Member Posts: 1,195

Yes I know it is only the last day of January, and we have 11 more months to go with a ton of really anticipated games slotted to release this year, but I feel more confident in making this statement than I have ever felt about any game ever before.

I am not just making this statement wildly as hype.

I am making this statement as someone who has played every phase of the beta, and carefully and critically watched the progression of the game.

I am making this statement as someone who has sat thru the dev chats and listened carefully and asked many pointed questions.

I am making this statement as someone who has played all 4 bases classes to 30, and find each and every build I have tried equally fun and playable,

I am making this statement as someone who has spent many many hours in the pvp warfronts as well as the world instances on both factions.

I am making this statement as someone who reported over 1000 bugs and had EVERY one of them fixed in beta.

I am making this statement as someone who made first report on a bug only to have the devs bring the server down ten minutes later patch the fix for the bug and bring the servers back online within 20 minutes.

I am making this statement as a player who has spent endless hours off the main quests, roads, and story out exploring the world and finding all the amazing little things they did not have to add but did. (Hidden piles of treasure on mountain tops, complex and interactive puzzles to unlock secret rooms and quests, stand alone quests deep off the main tracks, random named monsters with unique loot drops, not to mention the best made world in any game ever. )

I am making this statement as someone who has weaved in and out of the roots of a banyan tree with PERFECT collisions on every root in a massive swamp. Most games would just make the tree, roots and all a solid object for collision, RIFT took the time and effort to make it virtually real.

I am making this statement as someone who knows RIFT took from other games, they took the BEST left the rest.

I am making this statement as someone who remembers 90% of this dev team from when they worked at Verant Interactive( creator's of Everquest ), Turbine ( creator's of Ascheron's Call ), and Blizzard ( creator's of WoW ).  The RIFT dev staff are tried and tested developers with vision and original thought. The RIFT devs are NOT part of  this new generation of tech school developers that are ruining the industry with thier lack of creativity, lack of imagination, and lack of inspiration. Many of the RIFT developers are the 1st generation of MMO developers when game developers were gamers first and foremost. This is a dev team that cares what players think and provide what players want.

I am not making this statement lightly or without careful forethought and I stand behind it,

RIFT will be the best MMO of 2011, possibly of all time

The game is not even out yet. Proclaiming bests is very very premature.

Besides, what best means exactly? Best of those released this year? Can't be population wise, I don't see how Rift can scratch WoW's population.

Not even close, have two copies pre-ordered . but wife says no now and i am not sure. graphics look off even on max and your character looks like they and the world do not mix.. just hope it is good enough to last until something better.. /sigh

my wife statement fits well here, she says.. " are they really charging us to play this or is this one of the better f2p games"  i must agree it looks like a better mmo for f2p.

  • TictoxTictox Member Posts: 24

If its best or not, i couldt care less... if it was announced the biggest shit game in history i would still play it! =)

  • yaminsuxyaminsux Member UncommonPosts: 973

Best MMO for 2011? It'll be EvE again even they won't release incarna this year.

As for rift, beta tested it, not my cup of tea.

  • gothagotha Member UncommonPosts: 1,074

    I think not

I am not making this statement as someone who played to level 13 and was bored the entire way.

    2011 - Rift / SWTOR / GW2 tough competition.

You are making those statements as a fanatical fanboy.  You are crazy in love with a video game man.

  • EvileEvile Member Posts: 534

I almost fell asleep playing Rift. Combat was the same snoozefest LOTRO is. graphics seemed a bit generic, but anyone looking for a new WoW clone might like it.

DCUO gets my vote so far for 2011.

Funny how the OP states the devs are so full of originality considering combat in Rift brings NOTHING even remotely new to the table.

Everytime new game is about to be released there is a pletohora of fanboi's posts like that. They are mmo-addicted and super-exited when new dope is about to hit the streets. And they are usually first to cancel the subscription when the the charm of unreleased game wears off in reality of boring and repetetive gameplay.

    Everytime.

funny... I get the feeling you really ARE serious.

Let's see your arguments, shall we?

    1. You said the magic word: beta

    2. nd magic word: dev chat

    3. so its fun till lvl 30 (for you) ... wich you reached in how many days?

    4. many hours you say? when will many turn into too many?

    5. so you say the game is buggy?

    6. and you know that how?

    7. been there done that, there only are so many mountain tops and secret rooms that you can read about on a website to learn how to get there. Maybe it's fun to you, not to everyone, especially not 6 months after release.

    8. This makes the game the best? o_O

    9. again... is this a pro argument?

    10. In my book, it's good to be young and new to the buisiness... The most fresh and innovative games I've seen (even in the mmo genre) were made from small and young companies.

    11. Yes you are and what you call carefull forethought, I call blinded by fanboyism and you can stand behind it as long as you want, it doesnt make any statement true in the real world.

Don't get me wrong... I enjoyed the last two beta events and might buy the game if my guild will, but this is just ludicrous. The game is still in beta and 2011 is far from over.

Best MMO of 2011 to who's rating? MMORPG? Gamespot? the general public? or yourself?

To MYSELF - SWTOR will be best MMORPG this year. Will it be within the eyes of the public oppinion for best? Don't know - will it be the oppinion on MMORPG.com? Don't know.

Rift is a solid game and i myself will be getting it for something new to play till SWTOR or something else comes and grabs my attention.

All in all its personal preference - but for the internet no one is allowed that and people will argue whatever your oppinion is. If you believe it will be the best MMO, then go for it - great! Stick to it and hope you really enjoy it and continue to support that.

Yeah... Sorry to drop a bomb on you guys but due to GW2 releasing in 2012..Rift will be the best mmo released this year. I can't discuss games under NDA but it's basically a guarantee that rift will kick another highly anticipated mmorpgs ass later this year. Again I can't reveal anymore than that due to mods deleting and warning me about giving out NDA info.

You shouldn't lie like that. People are already crushed that this game offered nothing new. When they finally get too play TOR they will be suicidal... Chill with instilling false hope into these guys. After what I've seen GW2 is their only hope.

Why should they believe you rather than me?

You display your fanatic blind support for Rift in each of your posts, while I offer a more balanced view detailling both good and bad points. In your opinion, who should people trust?

And be careful with calling people liars or any other names - it's diffamatory and against the forum rules.

Could you at least give some reasons why to trust you?

Statements like these make you look like the leader of some kind of cult with brainwashed idiots swallowing your delusional gospel.

Seriously, at least make an attempt to post arguments or don't post at all.

On topic, remains to be seen if GW2 gets released this year and how that one pans out. STOR would have been a contende to,  but the information released managed to make me loose interest in that game. Bummer.

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022

They might win it if they are the only mmo released in 2012 just like STO won it last year.  Easy to win when you have no competition, unless they count DCUO.

You may want to read all my posts about Rift before you post nonsense, it may help your credibility.

Don't forget to read the post where I said that I will buy Rift, since it will certainly provide some decent entertainment for a couple of months.

I'm not a Rift hater, but I'm not a blind fanboy either. Unlike many here, I'm able to see negative points in this new pixel paradise.

I have a very strong Deja Vu. This same happened before WAR, almost everyone was praising the game to heavens shortly before release and even shortly after release. Same engine,  same relatively polished gameplay beta, same shallow and linear gameplay, same hype, same unoriginal approach, and all I can see, is the same disappointing size of the playerbase in about half a year, barely going over 80k.

    REALITY CHECK

  • Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640
Just wait... In actually pretty bummed about what I've witnessed. You will all see in 6+ months... Don't overhype yourself people. That's all I can really say. I give out any more info and I would be breaking rules.

Aref you're talking about the amount of beta applicants to Rift, and making an assumption out of it? Because if so, I have to remind you that WAR had one million beta applications and started with about 40 servers (Rift had 42 in Beta 5). Again, same story. And it's being overhyped by those that already pre-ordered to not feel like they did a bad purchase again.

    REALITY CHECK

NDA stops me from giving any detailled reasons, but you can just compared what is written on the SW:TOR website to what Rift is to see major differences. Rift is a braindead mole waking game compared to the story-based MMO that is SW:TOR, and I don't break any NDA saying that since it's written all over the official site.

Statements like these make you look like the leader of some kind of cult with brainwashed idiots swallowing your delusional gospel.

The only "brainwashed idiots" (your insult, not mine... once again, a poster can't argue without insults) I see here are those who blindly praise this game without seeing its obvious limitations. I also see a few reasonable people (including myself) who will buy Rift but are aware that it's pretty linear and bland and won't last very long before one gets bored with it... just like WAR, Conan, etc...

Refrain the insults in future posts or I'll have to start reporting. Thanks.
