Restrictions on faction guild races dont really consern me. I'm not gonna die if I cant play a Twi'lek Sith that changes factions and then becomes a jedi.
I'm not gonna trash the game either, if it wont be possible to create world peace between the factions, and we can all be carebear friends. I'm not gonna trash the game just because my guild cant burn coruscant to the ground, and torch it into oblivion.
But I'll be shocked hard if this will end up as a static MMO, where nothing you do affects world gameplay and game mechanics, and its an endless story grind and battleground love affair.
No, I get it. I am just tired of wahhhh. this game is not catering to my specific wants and needs so I am not going to play it threads. Just wait for the game to come out if you dont like it dont play it. I plan on doing the same if I enjoy it ill play it if not ohh well I wont.
Well as far as racial faction restrictions, at least by the time the Empire was prominent, they did not even allow many races join the empire. Wookies, twi'l eks, etc weren't allowed to be full members of the empire. I remember in SWG, if you were not human, it would cost more credits for you to switch to the empire. I am probably wrong, my memory is crap, so please correct me if I am wrong.
First, let me preface this by saying a few things. Most importantly, I am probably what some would consider a bioware fanboy. I've played every game they've made, (with the exception of Jade Empire...just haven't gotten around to it yet), and loved everyone of them. More specifically, I'm a Mass Effect NUT. I've put hundreds of hours into both games, and read the comics and books as well. I firmly believe Bioware craps gold.
It's too bad that the article where the Biowares devs said WoW was the touchedown, was takenout of context.
Quitter. You wait this long and completely lose interest because of a couple words? You owe it to yourself to play the game. You know you will enjoy the storyline which is around 200+ hours per character.
That alone is worth more than what you are paying for retail + a few months. You purchase those single player games from BW right? So what's the difference if you enjoy it you enjoy it. I feel bad that you let some BS statement get to you like this, now that's weak.
imo, you are nitpicking way too much. You will never enjoy anything if you let everything bug you before you even get to see how it pans out. I suppose you just don't have any faith in bioware, you say you are their fan, but instead of trying to support them and give them constructive criticism about your views, you just cave. That's not what any fan I know would do.
Alright, I'm coming from far far away from the star wars universe (Twice now, I've almost said star trek and stargate) and only briefly caught glimpses watching (Maybe the odd hour through) however, I have played KOTOR 1+2 (while I cant say it gives me huge authority or if my answers have much validity attached to them) so I do have a general knowledge.
Reading your post and looking at what seems to be our major issue, doesn't this actually fit into the general lore? I mean, look at the general star-wars universe. In general, are the species/races really divided when it comes to the republic or the sith? Not really. They pick a side. One or two tend to go 'rogue' and join the other side but in general the races are represented as either supporting the sith, or the republic. You gave both examples, but the most notable was of Anakin (Sp?), but isn't he a bad example. Humans (I'm under the assumption that both sith and republic can play as them) have fought on both sides of the coin. Now the other race you mentioned, you even said that in the series of films, at one point a significant amount helped the jedi rebuild. Now, I'm not saying ALL of that particular race supported the republic, but enough for a delegation (or a whole country for all I know) to be sent. And to be honest, any outwardly effort (in that particular universe) tends to be construed as a general declaration of "Our race's are allies. We shall help you out".
I don't have much knowledge on the game to be honest, I do hope (and expect) that one could and should be (regardless of sith/republic alligiences) light or dark. That would be something I would want above all else. Oh and world that the players can interact with and change. A static world isn't really interesting in my opinion. (The post below reminded me)
Anyway, all the best . Try not to look too hard into one person's views (even if they are on the dev team. GIve it a try when it does come out). Maybe the dev team are divided when it comes to what they think the general direction will be, or maybe they all think it's going to follow WoW (Though to be fair and even though I dislike WoW, Some of it's particular features have attracted many people to its game. If they improve on certain features and make it more geared towards an adult market, I can't say I'd complain. Though I dont think I want WoW...The adult version. I do understand why you would be worried though, but hell, just give it a try and watch some gameplay videos

Thank you for posting a wonderful counterpoint to my opinionated rant. You do post some very valid arguments. Specifically, whole races/planets allying with one faction. While I do agree, that is the general rule of thumb, there are other countless examples of it not being whole planets/races. My concern was really in them taking the standpoint that say, all Miraluka are good, (which they are not). From what I've read, humans can be anything, on both sides, signifying a split down the middle as far as the human population goes. So, why not split other races? While I do agree with your point, about whole worlds siding with a side, it's ludicrous of them to say that every single member of X race follows the same allegiance. A perfect example of this would be humans on earth, right now. How many different countires are there? How many countries belong to the U.N. vs. countries that don't?
Again, this is just my opinion. Thanks again for giving me a good read, and posing some wonderful points. I look forward to future debates with you!

I've put hundreds of hours into both games, and read the comics and books as well. I firmly believe Bioware craps gold.
Also, I am most definitely a Star Wars fanboy, (minus the prequel trilogy of course). 95% of the books I read are Star Wars books. I've played/own the majority of Star Wars video games, (yes, I still even have Shadows of the Empire for N64 =P). I absolutely LOVE Star Wars. It has such a rich and vibrant lore.
Now, I was one of the SW:TOR fanboys that has been waiting for this game since before we even knew what Bioware Austin was up to. I have been so excited for this game, that at points I felt like a child waiting for X-mas. However, based soley on what I have read the past week or so, I feel the game has completely lost my interest. I just read the article about how World of Warcraft is the "touchstone" for SW:TOR development. Now, that being said, I can't blame a company for wanting to be successful. What's the goal of any company? To make money, plain and simple. I've played WoW in the past as well. I think WoW was good in it's own way, but I hated how dumbed down they ended up making the game, just so they could cater to the idiots that had no idea how to play a game. I certainly understand why they did it though, as it has made the game the most successful MMO to date. Now, I'm not going to sit here and bash WoW, (as simply, I don't HATE the game, as others do), as that wasn't the point of my article. I think WoW should be left as WoW, and other companys should stop trying to copy WoW, and make their own game.
I feel that Bioware is severely hindering the game's capabilities. I was extremely disappointed when I read that space was going to be a rail shooter. After complaining about it for a while, I realized that it didn't really matter. I was going to play the game anyway, as the rail shooter space combat wasn't a deal breaker for me.
Then I read about the race/class restrictions. Now before I go into this, let me save some of the trolls some trouble. I know race/class restrictions have been in virtually every MMO ever made. I get it. One more time for the visually impaired, I KNOW! What upsets me about the restrictions in SW:TOR, is that I feel they are FAR too restricting. I mean, here we have probably one of the most expansive and rich lores in the world, that is literally FULL of dozens and dozens of various race/class combos,(to put it simply). A perfect example of a clear disregard for lore is the Miraluka. They have to probably be one of my more favorite races in SW lore. There have only been a few well known Miraluka throughout SW, but certainly the most prominent has to be Vises Marr. For those that don't know, she was a sith Miraluka companion from KOTOR 2. Now, Bioware has limited them to REPUBLIC ONLY. Why in poo perfect hell, is one of the most force sensitive races in SW history, being limited to ONLY jedi? Granted a large number of miraluka helped rebuild the jedi order, but they weren't ALL jedi, and it certainly wasn't a rare sight to see sith miraluka.
I could list dozens of other examples, but I really don't want to put you non SW nuts to sleep =P. The point is, I feel like Bioware didn't even bother to do the most basic research on the races and classes they were putting in the game, or SW itself for that matter. For example, I read one article from a producer, (I believe it was a producer. Can't recall his name off the top of my head at the moment), who said that there will never be faction swapping....ever. What?! All the major events in all of SW history are BASED on faction swapping. The most notable example, Anakin Skywalker. He grew up as a jedi,. Then what happened? HE FELL TO THE DARK SIDE!!! And at the end of his life, redeemed himself by saving his son's life. The success of the Empire was in large part, due to Anakin's fall to the dark side, thus completely changing that time period. The examples of falling to the dark side/redemption are far more than I care to list, as I don't have hours to do so, but you get the point.
I realize that Bioware is trying to make the best story possible, but they are ignoring key elements that make SW what it is. According to their story, no sith will ever be redeemed, and no jedi will ever fall to the dark side. This simply isn't Star Wars. While I do have other complaints, (like locking lightsaber styles/colors to one per class), I feel I've been long winded enough.
In closing, let me just say that I'm not trying to sway anyone, one way or the other. I was merely voicing my distaste for what the game has shaped up to be, and wanted to sort of gauge how many others felt the same. There is no need for trolls/flaming, (even though I know the logic impaired will be on here doing it anyway), and I don't need people to tell me the game isn't even out yet, so wait and see. I know it's not out yet. I based my opinion soley on the info/videos Bioware have released already.
so much words to get this answer -----> i bet you money that you will play it at launch

You're spot on about the cost of perks for various non human races. The Empire was very racist, (or rather speciesist...if that even is such a thing lol), when it came to different species. There were varying degress of how much faction perks cost non-humans, based on the Empire's standpoint towards that specific race. Example, Wookies paid the most, cause the Empire despised Wookies, and so on.
As far as becoming members of the Empire, a non human could join the Empire and grind rep to become the highest rank available in game, (Colonel if I remember right). As far as story goes, (books, movies, etc), 99% of all of the top officials in the Empire were human, so SWG is kind of a bad example on the Empire's racism lol.

I think of the empire more as an ideal (force leadership rather then directly evil) Now the sith are evil (as per DE) but there you go. The republic is a mroe live and let live type people. The jedi are suppose to be the good guys from what i hear
As for a miraluka to be evil. Well you can be dark sided completely. You can have white skin age all that jazz and still be on the republic side.
Light and dark side of the force are not limited to side of the war you are on.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
I agree with 90% of the posts above me, have faith in BioWare young one.
In my opinion you're just disapointed because you wanted to play a Miraluka on the Empire side. That being said, you should wait and be more patient, i do agree with racial and faction change restrictions, Sith changing to Replublic would just be too ridiculous to bare.
Being a Star Wars Fan myself i agree with some of the OP concerns and have more of my own.Considering the game was ready for beta testing 01/10/2009 how much offical footage have people seen of proper ingame play? and yes i know about nda rules but come on some ingame footage would be nice(i don't class footage of mobs fighting as proper in game footage)It would be nice to see some people wandering around on some of the planets seeing the sightswilderness etc.I still feel they hyped the game way too early its starwars it don't need to be hyped its already a beast.I have concerns about the graphics of the game and yes i know Bioware did kotor but that was released 2003 it seems like they are using the same graphics for Tor also as its looking more and more like a late 2011 release how long will it be before the graphics in the game look outdated or old not long i think. While graphics are not everything they certainally are a major part of the game that helps you to immerse yourself into your character.I have gone from not being able to wait for the game joining a guild for the game and checking the offical site for any news on the game every other day to becoming very unsure about it nothing really grabs me to say whoa that looks cool or can't wait to try that and not bothering to check the offical site.I think we will be lucky to see Tor at anypoint this year!!....
WoW was dumbed down because that's what the community wanted. I played WoW before and after The Burning Crusade and the speed of grinding was night and day, post-TBC it was a little too easy, before TBC classes like shaman sucked (my main char) and druid ruled the world. Now hunters has it easy.
Anyways, too early to determain what TOR is going to be like, Zeschuk's comments doesn't really help though.
I hear you on this man; I too was excited for this game for a very long time. To be completely honest, as more and more information on the game came out, the less and less I was interested in playing the game.

Can anyone verify this claim? I'm in a Vent channel right now and I read that claim out-loud and had 5 People just tell me that would be a HUGE negative...That could be a deal-breaker right there...
From what I gather from every video produced about this game it looks like Mass Effect with a Star Wars skin. The interface and everything looks exactly like Mass Effect except the Graphics Engine which looks more like WoW.If you loved the way Mass Effect plays as I do then this game still yet may be a good one.Time will tell.

I think one of the videos of the flashpoint (not the new one) showed a sith picking up a lightsaber from a jedi corpse and equiping it showing him having a blue and red lightsaber.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

I read a post about it over on the official TOR forums. I'll try and track down the link for you.

There is really so little that is known about many things in SWTOR. Basing anything off of a third party "review" or "commentary" is just premature. SWTOR may or may not be a good or great game. It may be the biggest turkey of all times. But, we do not know that yet. We only know what some people THINK based upon things that have little fact to back up. It is assumation. Until people actually get to look at the game and until they have a chance to detail the things that work or don't work and why, there is no reason to jump to a conclusion right now.
If you feel you are going to be disappointed with SWTOR because of what you are reading I only have one suggestion...STOP READING.
I can whole heartedly assure you the lore of Star Wars universe is VERY heavily watched and scrutinizied in this game. Any Star Wars game really. Lucas actually has a team whose sole purpose is to make sure that each and every Star Wars offshoot follows the restrictions to the letter.
Where were these people when The Force Unleashed I&II released? lol especially two.. One was a decent game (good story) but 2 was pathetic on all fronts.

Why cant you make this instead of 10,000 words?
Lol. If he posted "this game is gonna suck" then you and many others would insult him because of his lack of reasoning behind the statement. So either way, you would have responded negatively to his post.
I do have other complaints, (like locking lightsaber styles/colors to one per class)
Can anyone verify this claim? I'm in a Vent channel right now and I read that claim out-loud and had 5 People just tell me that would be a HUGE negative...That could be a deal-breaker right there...
I read a post about it over on the official TOR forums. I'll try and track down the link for you.
They are not locking 1 colour/style to a class, I've already read and heard them say this isn't so. The colour I've even seen, he had dual lightsabers 1 red and 1 purple Also started with single saber and then got dual.
They may have certain skills that require a style but you are certainly not locked into one.
Comments
I look forward to future debates with you!

so much words to get this answer -----> i bet you money that you will play it at launch

SWTOR is tailored for people like you.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
- as long as he meant you should have what wow has plus more then we should be ok -
unless you want a sandbox in which case you're in the wrong country..
I want to own property too
I hear you on this man; I too was excited for this game for a very long time. To be completely honest, as more and more information on the game came out, the less and less I was interested in playing the game.
You’re not alone in your feelings.

Let's party like it is 1863!
He got it, was just a hilarious response.
Where were these people when The Force Unleashed I&II released? lol especially two.. One was a decent game (good story) but 2 was pathetic on all fronts.
