It is hilarious that some people think that 'wow players' can't play other MMOs.

I'm an Ex-WoW player and I'm getting this because I'm a BW fanboy.

I've grown up playing BW games like BG1/2, NWN and yes I buy every game they put out (except that sonic game).

It won't surprise anyone to see the massive box sales because 'Made by Bioware' = Sales. Heck, a new IP Dragon Age sold how many? And this is one of the best known IP, Star Wars.

This game looks and feels like it is aimed at those who like Bioware games in which there are millions of them; see DA:O sales.

get jade empire, its truely epic and enjoyable.

as for sw:tor ea owns bioware now, that says it all, ea has never made a good game, they just stamp out the same old madden year after year and rip off the masses of dummards.

they are going for the WoW crowd. plain and simple. anyone else they can collect is a bonus.

one just need browse their forums to appreciate the kind of posting quality you'd expect from the WoW forums.

but this is not a criticism. it is what it is.

i think its a mistake, because numerous games (most notably Lord of the Rings Online - a popular IP) tried the same strategy and most of the WoW players won't swtich games.

Bioware will have to come up with something trully grand to pull it off; but the fact remains that the WoW model is not a recipe for success. it worked for WoW, at that time and they've managed it well.

Agreed. Aiming for the WoW crowd is a recipe for disaster. This isn't 2005 anymore and devs need to come up with something better than just story and voice over.

    •   The game is not aimed at the Hardcore player but the Star Wars, RPG and Bioware Fans- GamesRadar

    • When asked about who this game is aimed at: Quote: Everybody really. There are some disparate groups we got to bring together and we knew at the beginning. - TenTonHammer

You can quote whatever marketting drivel you want to, but the bottom line is they are trying to take WoW's fanbase, even just a fraction of it.  I've been griping about this on the TOR boards for over 2 years now, but the devs (or the suits behind them) are disinclined to listen.  They have created a 2nd Gen MMORPG with voice acting and cut scenes.  There are two 3rd Gen MMORPGs out there(and I suspect a 3rd come June or so), that I know of, and it saddens me that in 2011 2nd Gen is the best Bioware can do.

    What's a MMORPG?

SWTOR will be unique. The first MMORPG that's a RPG. That's why I wan't to play it. BioWare's epic storytelling with a MMO twist.

I understand the only reason you bash the game is that you are sad, since you admitted to it, being sad over a game that's in development.

It will be really intresting to see if all you people that are agonised by this game that has yet to be released will go back on your words when it finally arrives... Meanwhile I'll be enjoying life while you and the likes of you cry out on the internet over a game.

    Not really.

Critically and commercially, ME2 (after merger) is more successful than ME1 (before merger)

Games are subjective but you are in the minority if you think ME1 is better than ME2.

I really liked Dragon Age as well. The Bioware style does not appeal to everyone but Bioware does have very long string of multi platinum games.

Not me.  I still plan on pre-ordering the game.  I have no idea how much this game will make me want to keep playing, but so far I really like what I see.

I've decided not to care about the OP's opinion, but since he decided to make a thread about it, I felt inclined to post so he'd know his efforts didn't go to waste.

I believe everyone should make a thread detailing their opinion.

They're catering this to the WoW crowd?  "Plain and simple"?

Who here ISN'T part of the WoW crowd?  Is there anyone here who hasn't played WoW at some point?  WoW commands over 60% of the MMO market share and that's a DECLINE from their original numbers.  If you are a company releasing an MMO in 2011 and beyond you are, by default, going after the WoW crowd.

Love it, hate it, burned on it, whatever...we are all part of the WoW crowd.

Not that this has much to do with the OP.  I believe this thread was started over lore issues?  Personally, I have no problems with screwing with SW lore.  Who does other than the OP and a few stragglers?  Heck, Lucas himself has pretty much crapped all over the SW lore.  Just play the game and enjoy.

I played WoW for 2 weeks and didnt like it, so why am I part of the WoW crowd ?

  • SanHorSanHor Member UncommonPosts: 336

Honestly I have never ever played WoW. Never, not even on my friend's PC and I've started playing MMOs in 2002.

Speak for yourself, WoW is fine as a game but adds little to the genre.

You may be part of a crowd , a lot of us can see past your view and are part of it in no way. You can always link something back to it but then I can lik that back to any of the first MMOs....

Uhm . . . I am not part of the WoW crowd.  I have played the game yes, but I have NEVER paid for it since it is not worth the money in my opinion.
