While Im mainly looking forward to GW2 atm, I have to say that I find these comparisons quite useless. I expect both to sell loads of boxes and also that SWTOR will retain loads of subs. Also that many players will enjoy both these games because they use different payment models. Im not sure how that only makes one of them win or if that question is even relevant (unless you want to discuss success from a business perspective).
I find it more interesting what makes ppl act like sportsfans and start comparing two MMO's as if they are two sportsteams. Does Casey enjoy GW2 better if SWTOR cant retain many subs and therefor 'loses' ?
No. He simply enjoyed the game he played in that weekend more than SW:TOR.
There were no flamewars until the news reached this forum.
So he says this : ""I think that Guild Wars2 is going to be the next big MMO. I think it's gonna beat SWTOR. I think it's gonna be a better game than SWToR.. " but actually means to say that he simply liked GW2 more then SWTOR Why cant he just say so?
Because if you like a game a lot better than another it's not unthinkable that the majority might share that same oppinion.
So, once I bought GW1 and played it for a while. Then I started playing Vanguard for a while. I also played EQ2, SWG, Fallen Earth, EVE Online and probably more then I care to remember. In between and during some I played more GW1, because it doesnt need a sub and is therefore easy to go back to.
Now then, you MMO fans, tell me who won?
The game(s) you put the more money on.

It is pretty likely that one of these 2 games will at least become the second largest MMO after Wow, maybe even beat that game. Which one is everybodys guess but everyone have the right to guess which one.
That does not mean that the other game will fail (yes, I know he said that TOR will sell well at launch but drop pretty fast).
I personally think it is great that we have more than one well funded AAA MMO releasing soon and I hope neither fails, best for the genre would be if these 2 games take down Wow a few steps and all those 3 games competes with about the same income. It would inspire other companies to make MMOs and try different ideas and prove that other MMOs than Wow can earn money.

Which is exact reason why it reached this forum - to start flamewar . And by my purely subjective opinion gw2 will own SW:TOR hard :P.
like i said before we dont know who beats what or whats going on until this game comes out .. so yeah i am no fanboy but i dont care who beats what games are for fun if you like it play it. if you dont like it buy your ice cream some were else... star wars the new one is good for its own tasts guild wars is good for people who like fantasy stuff and what ever that game has. so i dont see tor going to die because guild wars two came out. every one has there own likes and dislikes so to say its going to beat the game no... to those who like that they like, guild wars star wars two diffferent games and bioware makes great games. they both good games in there own way but.. why not just have fun what you like and enjoy it so what if some like other games better the other games are for enjoying yourself when you come home from hard days work :P.

I know that people can share opinions and that its not unthinkable that you are part of a majority that shares that opinion That was not really my point.

If he really thinks that the majority will share his views "I think that Guild Wars2 is going to be the next big MMO. I think it's gonna beat SWTOR. I think it's gonna be a better game than SWToR.. " is a perfectly reasonable way of expressing his oppinion and he shouldn't stay at 'I like GW2 better".
Sigh. There you go again, continuing to do the same. 'checking if I know what ad hominem means', really? That's sidetracking what the topic was about and another personally directed attack, implying as if the conversation is about whether I know what 'ad hominem' means or not. It's a dirty tactic, it seems like you're the kind of person who likes insulting other posters and attacking their credibility instead of debating in a reasonable, sensible manner, a clear case of someone who looks up conflict and flamewars and bathes in it, your arguments clearly can't be trusted since they lack reason and are only intended to flamebait
... was that ad hominem enough for you?
Sure, after you checked what AAH is. Good joob for me, got one forumgoer educated.
People on video game shows and blogs and the like are paid to give their opinions.
... and state them in strong terms.
If they wanted wishy-washy 'Well, maybe.... I think... you know, maybe....' opinions, nobody would watch their show except for people who want completely balanced, rational news. ... and that's obviously a very small market, especially among video game fans.
Just helpfully pointing out the realities of being a commentator on a video game show. :P

AND he did explain that he found GW2 to be more inovative
Well.. for me.. i plan to wait until both games have been out 3 or 4 months, by that point, the hype will have been eliminated and we will see the real good points and bad points of the games.. and make any decision about buying them based on what i find out then... at the moment.. both games have good and bad points, GW has dodgy combat.. not that SW:TOR's is any better.. at the moment GW2 has the advantage because of the WvW pvp.. but.. it all hinges on the combat mechanics.. in the meantime.. i'll stick with Eve, and ocasional WoW/Rift breaks.. Both games imo, are going to be successful, the only real question is how successful.. and for how long... so i'll wait several months, by then, we should have some real data to work with.. as neither game is really calling out to me to rush out and buy at the earliest convenience.. i figure there really isnt any reason to rush into choosing one over the other.
it seems that Casey Schreiner feels the game will be great based on what ArenaNet's devs told him about GW2.
I'm not sure He was playing even the half of the content of the game, things like progression, crafting, leveling etc....
I felt that ppl who were invited at Arenanet only played a dungeon and they tested the underwater combat. Am I wrong?
Uhm, he clearly didn't play the entire game. And he didn't play any PvP at all.
But I still think he base his opinion a lot what he thought about the game.
I tried out WAR at D3 (6 months before release or so) and wasn't impressed even if the devs told me it would become the next Wow. It just didn't feel that different from the games I already was playing.
The problem here is that Casey tried out the game and thought it was great fun, and it surely was but MMOs needs long time fun as well, and we don't know if it or TOR for that matter will be that.
There was a lot of players that thought Rift was the ultimate fun during the beta and a few days after release but a lot of those players have changed their minds even if some still think that. If GW2 wants to be number 2 or even beat Wow it will need to be fun in the long run.
While Im mainly looking forward to GW2 atm, I have to say that I find these comparisons quite useless. I expect both to sell loads of boxes and also that SWTOR will retain loads of subs. That is still meaningless. It still doesnt explain what competition they are in and what the goal is. How will GW2 beat SW:TOR? That he likes GW2 more then SW:TOR is besides the point.
Unless the goal of the competition between GW2 and SW:TOR is gaining the affection of just Casey. Everyone can make up his own competition of course and then decide not to tell anyone that they are participating. I do that too and every day beat people on my way to the cafeteria on my work.

So one will be better at being innovative then the other? Ok, that makes sense yes. Too bad that Bioware said in interviews that they were never aiming for innovation. GW2 could have a better contender at this, dont you think?
What if we change the competition to which MMO will be the most Star Warsy?

Of course beating is a vague term and highly subjective, but still.
Say there was a competition between Rift and the new FF in 2011, i think almost everyone will agree RIFT has "beaten" FF based on things like reviews and active player base
Well, Im done. I think that the whole 'this MMO is better then the other' is a stupid way of saying that you like one MMO then the other.

GW2 would still win. You know why I say that? Because Guardians act like Jedi with all their force fields and shields and Thieves leap around like they had been training with a Teras Kasi Master or something. Combine those to professions, add a few force pushing abilities to their arsenal and you've got yourself a bonified Jedi Master.
I of course am joking about GW2 winning it but those Guardians and Thieves sure move a lot like Jedi if you ask me.
