dont care about the online play becuse seriously what gamer dont have internet anymore only reason to whine about this would be if u want pirated version. the thing about the mod dont really bother me but i will definitely not buy this game becuse of the real life transactions what the hell are they thinking only people that are exited about this are the ones that think they are gonna make money playing a game and are retarded if they expect any big sums of money coming out of it.
I play non MMO games when I cant play my MMO's like when an internet connection isnt avalable. I buy a pc game that isnt an mmo i should be able to play it offline.
I was looking forward to D3. But now i won't be buying it. because of the no offline play.
Same here.
But I figure some day I'll buy it. Once its been emulated. How long did it take for WoW private servers to start popping up? That was an mmorpg. Im going to laugh at Blizzard here, because once Diablo 3 is emulated, EVERYONE is going to download it and use. Every......one.
While most people that play WoW dont play on private servers, absolutely everyone is going to jump at the first hack or emulator that allows them to play D3 offline. Its going to blow right up in Blizzards face.
So dont worry. One day D3 will be fully playable offline. And I doubt Blizzard will have anything to do with it. They couldnt even keep their WoW code secure. Much less this.
WoW server code is quite secure.
The way the emulated servers work is that they know how the server reacts to the client by playing the client. So they re-created the responses. Which is why, for the most part, you have certain abilities that just dont work right and many more that function similiarly but have issues. The server code is essentially replicated by reverse engineering the expected reactions of the client.

guess someone forgot to tell you diablo is an mmo huh?

Anyways,So many people with their panties in a wad over this move..
Diablo is still a Action RPG with Multiplayer, its not a MMO, its has single player mode, the worlds not persistent, and you cant have huge amounts of people on the same map.

oh well,more room for me.
the people who are upset that you need an internet connection to play the single player content are just being dumb or they're the hackers who make private servers or hack the game to ruin the experience for others.
the people who are upset that there are no mods have a somewhat legitimate reason but until they play D3 and experience what blizz has given us in the way of an interface, their complaints are without base. if blizzard gives us an interface thats customizable enough to be acceptable, then the fact that we can't mod the game shouldn't be to much of a thing to miss.
the people who are upset about the AH move definitely have reason to be as its purely a move to make money and its stupid and greed-filled.
having said all that, 80% of the posts i've seen have been about number 1. so naturally i ignore those people.
ps. well i suppose a small number of people actually dont have an internet connection, but then i ask you, why are you playing an mmog that only had an option of single player and not console games?

Totally false. I own a PC and two gaming consoles (PS3 and 360). Yet Ive spent months (a year at one point) without internet. Some areas do not offer net service either. Woops. Thats become more rare in the recent years but its still a factor. One basic fact though is the internet costs money. Its not exactly always cheap either.
Not to mention service outages, and so forth. Ive had two since I moved, and thats just been in the past month. Not being able to play an mmorpg because my service went down is one thing. Its kind of accepted by me, and should be by most people.
This is a single player game. Like most single player games it has an online mechanic but its absolutely not an mmorpg. Calling it that is the same as saying Diablo 2 was an mmorpg. Or the original Diablo. They werent. Having to make sure my net is up and running, just to play solo for awhile in the single player mode of a game I purchased is rediculous.
So yea, I care about this game not requiring me to be connected to the net just so I can sit and play it for awhile, and Im avidly against pirating. I hate piracy. Mostly because if I like a game and intend on playing it, I NEED to pay for it, so that the developer can make a profit and I can see more of that type of game.
DIABLO 3 IS NOT A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. IT IS A MULTIPLAYER GAME THAT CAN BE PLAYED ALONE.
every single diablo has had the ability to be played online and every single diablo saw the majority of its playerbase stampede into the online servers TO PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE. a hack'n'slash rpg like diablo 3 simply IS NOT FUN to play alone.

I have at least three friends who own Diablo 2 and never played it online. They loved it. Im the same. I had lots of fun playing solo. I did try playing online once. It was okay but I kind of felt it was pointless. Im running around hack and slashing everything in sight, and so is my partner. Big deal. I dont really need them and they dont need me.
Im not saying Diablo cant be really enjoyed with a friend or two, but its not an incredibly boring game to be played solo. Also saying its a " MULTIPLAYER GAME THAT CAN BE PLAYED ALONE " is the same as saying its a SINGLE PLAYER GAME WITH AN ONLINE FEATURE.

Except, it's not.
Everyone plays in their own copy of the world, that's joined from a lobby and the world resets.
I highly doubt a startup is going to mess with all the servers and network BS involved in something like this. Plus, Crate actually listens to its fans, and Titan Quest has some really awesome mods that kept me and my friends playing long after IronLore disappeared.

Same difference either way.
diablo one and two had single player/offline modes. diablo 3 does not. hence diablo 3 being a multiplayer game that can be played solo.
I suspect this has a lot to do with control. Blizzard want to be able to pull the plug on 'old' games when they think players have had their money's worth. When they finish D4, they can simply take the old D3 server down and force everyone to buy D4...
It's the idea that I wont be able to play a game offline that I have bought once the developer decides that I've had enough that really irks me. That's totally unacceptable in my book.
You know if you look at the FAQ Blizzard states that they will get a cut from people putting items on the AH, with a note that we plan to waive the listing portion of the fee for a limited number of transactions per account. They also are going to get a cut when you sale the item and when you transferee the money to be used they get a cut.
So if the people on this site and around the web that are saying this is the best thing since slice bread use it daily, Blizzard could make thousands to millions yearly off this. Think about it if 10,000 items are added to the AH daily around the world, Blizzard makes money. If 5,000 items around the world get sold daily Blizzard makes money. If 2,500 people around the world daily transfer money to paypal Blizzard makes money. This alone if you people put your money were your mouth is could change the whole single player gaming industry. And from the perspective of a Business owner I would be watching and cheering you people on to use it. Just think since the single player gaming industry started they made money off of producing content, with this one decision by gamers it could all change.
Just imagine 10 years from now all gaming developers and publishers becoming digital EBays. After all if Blizzard succeeds at what they are trying to do here, they could easily make more money off of the real money auction house then from making and selling Diablo 3. Since with that auction house they would have a continues revenue stream that they take small percentage off of, but do not have to spend any money to make anything they earn. This is a Business owners ultimate fantasy come to life and people around the net are cheering for it. I can just imaging ever developer sitting up and taking notice when Blizzard announces record profits for Diablo 3 because of their new digital Ebay.
With this new industry comes the potential for record profit margins! The gaming industry could switch to making fewer games and each one would have their own ebay. So going from making hundreds of games each year worldwide to single digits. In turn reducing their overhead by firing about 75% of the people employed (of course all those people potential could lose their house and end up claiming bankruptcy) in the gaming industry, and cutting back on the size of their facilities. Making is so they have less overhead and with a constant revenue stream setting all time records in profit margins for ever company in gaming.
So please people that support this put your money were your mouth is and make Blizzard tons and tons of money from the AH. This will be kind of exciting like watching gamers play Russian roulette with the gaming industry. Because in the end who knows what effects this could have in the long run, when companies see they can make money without producing new content. It could be way beyond my vision to see or any gamer out there. But it is exciting we could end up in a hell we help create or it could be end up great for the gaming industry. The only thing I know is it will be fun to watch what the other companies do when Blizzard is rolling in hundred dollar bills from the AH money stream.
So please support what your mouth is saying with your money, in a sick and twisted way I really look forward to seeing what happens!
I know some of you might think that I might be blowing the amount of money Blizzard can make out of proportion. But to that I would say which one is better a penny a day doubled for a year, or a million dollars. If you said the better deal was the penny doubled per day you are right, and that is what we are handing to Blizzard with our Blessings.
I play non MMO games when I cant play my MMO's like when an internet connection isnt avalable. I buy a pc game that isnt an mmo i should be able to play it offline.

What about those who travel a lot for work related reasons? Hotels have poor internet usually and some have no internet at all. It's not like these people can afford to stay in the fanciest hotels with the best internet connections the whole time. Their gameplay experience would be ruined by having to connect online.
What about those of us that live in areas with frequent power outages? I live in Florida and we get frequent thunderstorms and power outages as a result. I'd love to be able to boot the game up on my laptop with no wireless, but will be unable to.
I love the ignorance of people some days. Obviously we must be hackers or dumb because we want don't want to have to log onto the internet everytime to play a game that shouldn't force single player connectivity in the first place. The only people who stand to benefit from this is Blizzard/Activision so copies of the game aren't as easily pirated. SP characters were kept seperate in the original game. What's next, having to enter my SSN number and a 20 key random digit sent to my e-mail to log into the game every time I want to play? DRM and anti-piracy measures just show the company has absolutely no trust in their fanbase.
It's pretty sad when the leading features of Diablo III are:
* Limiting the customer's options in playing the game.
* A new way of fleecing the customer.
This isn't the same Blizzard I was a huge, unquestioning fan of in the 90s and early 2000s.

I guess insulting behaviour is a sign of the times...probably makes some people feel better about themselves.
Problem is, if Blizzard go bust or simply decide that you've had enough time playing their game and pull the plug on the server you'll be left with nothing but an expensive coaster.
Bit like Steam really, I don't like the idea of having my ability to play single player games that I have paid for dependent on permission from some fly-by-night company out there which might or might not go bust at any moment.

That sounds like a realistic concern since all of Blizzards games have had such a short lifespan. /sarcasm off
Blizzard will support this game for a long long time and it will be well worth your investment if this is the only issue you have.

Another one I hadn't heard of.
Grim Dawn and Torchlight 2 for CORPGs and Path of Exile for an Action MMO.
Looks like I don't need D3 as much as I though.
More original Diablo devs are making Torchlight than Diablo anyway, so i guess Torchlight is now more Diablo than Diablo.
