Yeah but back on topic the game seems have a good population at the moment. Dont get me wrong we could always use more.

 

Alot of people (this is a assumption) think because no one is in town that the game is dead. But with the economy the way it is it is easy to set up your own house and only have to go to town every once in a while to get supplies.

 

I have seen alot of people out in the jungle and places that are very remote and hard to access in game.

 

Plus I play in a quiet time zone(Australian) so if we (timezone) can have steady numbers you would assume that the other timezones are the same.

Picking and choosing posts from threads is really easy.  The majority in that thread, however, seem to agree that the population is fine, and contradict the OP.

 

Don't bother they will never qoute the good stuff, only skimming thrue to find that juicy post and make thier whole argument based on it.

Me and some friends came back when Dawn when't live and we having a blast, sure sometimes it might seems dead other days it's jampacked with players.

What is the point of quoting someone?  If all those quoted are just opinion, while the issue that is being debated is a fact.

If enough people online in a small forum says that President Obama is a female, does it become a fact?

Specially Tizio, prolly one of the most blinded fanboy of the entire MO official forums.

Love how he mentioned "the only 2 dungeons" "full of people"

Sad reality imo was that since there is so little to do in the game and people have such a hard time just finding someone to PvP against, they resort to the best it has to offer, which are the only 2 dungeons in the game.

 

In all seriousness, if the population was HEALTHY, SV would be the 1st ones to brag about it and thus would long since have showed stats of online people number, instead only numbers they gave were forum accounts which is laughable.

I play "Classic" Everquest on project1999.org which runs on EQEmu, and they always show the numbers of connected players and were very proud when they announced they had had over 1500 connected players.

Just as an indicator, the project1999 EQEmu server is really a "niche" game for oldschool EQ nostalgics who have heard of it, and yet you have almost 1000 players on prime time the weekend.

All of science, all of theology, all of communication are just opinions.  This includes the issue being debated here.  "Facts" are merely those elements of our individual perception that other individual perceptions often agree upon.

 

So very many fans here, some with positive opinions and some with negative opinions.

Since they have shareholders, Starvault is only likely to "brag" if the numbers indicated high profitability. As to whether 3-5,000 is "healthy" that depends on their costs, but it's not highly profitable.

If you are trying to compare populations, keep in mind that project1999 is free (or at least I hope so). Free vs, subscription numbers are not really equivalent. Judging by xfire numbers the population of Fallen Earth quadrupled when it changed to FTP.

Nobody knows anything about the population size.  Nobody will ever know except the few privileged on the development team.  But they are not willing to tell, and will never tell.  Nor will anyone got a chance to verify those numbers anyway.

Everything posted here are opinions, no more.  None of them have any reason to be held as more reliable, apart from faith.  It is like pitching a Greek God against a Roman God.  They are fighting in the heaven and for all we folks, we will never know who hit whom where and how.  You can place your faith wherever you want but that is not a basis for evidence.

Point of contention, the Roman Gods are the Greek Gods with different names.

 

Romans weren't very innovative on that stuff which is why they literally just stole the Gods and renamed them.

This has the most logic to it.  No one knows what the pop is.  Until you see SV release some numbers you do not know shit any of you. 

I played for 30 days after dawn.  I saw a bunch of people the first 2 weeks then I hardley saw anyone unless I was in Meduli.  Does that eman there was only 5 people playing or 5000??  I do not know because there was not an offical statement on it.  Illuminati the guy that put out the original find was in a guild with me when I played.  He is a good guy.  But remember he took the statement back. 

Basically no one knows.  All we know is the forum numbers lol.....   And my thinking is, if you can only talk forum numbers and not sub numbers then they are not what you want.

Population numbers, while fun to throw around on forums, really are not as good indicator of the longevity of a game as some around here would like to argue. I mean, Vanguard (my current MMO) has a population that could be described as "laughingly small" but seems to be chugging along. Hasn't had to much of an impact on my enjoyment of the game...

 Personally I usually enjoy taking the upper level of the fan estimates.  I mean... I said it before,  are we really arguing about whether an MMO has 3k or 5k subs?  Add a zero on the end and you can START a meaningful discussion...

Did we ever resolve the whole "Believe the Guy" or "Don't believe the guy" thing?

I asked a while back in the thread if the guy knows his stuff meaning he should be listened to..........including when he realized his mistake and stated that the 5k came from a month where everyone was double charged. 

Or 

Does the guy not know what he's talking about and the thread/post should be ignored..... including the estimated 5k subs?

 

So does the guy know his stuff and the double charged month inflared the estimated subs

Or does the guy not know his stuff making the whole estimate nothing more than a guess

Which is it?

From the sequence of events it appear to be

(1) Mr A make a guess

(2) Mr A takes back his guess

(3) Mr B takes the first guess as truth, or better than other guess

(4) Mr B dismiss the second act of Mr A

No one is right or wrong so far, everyone is trying to guess how accuracy other's guesses can be, or making further accuracy assessment on the derived guesses (guessing how accurate a guess on another guess).

While I can agree that the MO forums are somewhat overzealously moderated, to state they are "in bed" with SV really is stretching believability. I mean come one, you expect me to believe this site with its many games listed, is going to risk its reputation for one little indie developer? I hardly think so.
