Let me do a little late night math to show the amount of possibilities in D3's new skill system. We won't even talk about the 3 passives here.
It looks like roughly there are 21 different skills that you can put into your 6 slots. Once you pick one for your first slot, then you would only have 20 different skills for your second slot. Each skill, again with 5 different modifier runes.
Slot 1 = 21 x 5 = 105
Slot 2 = 20 x 5 = 100
Slot 3 = 19 x 5 = 95
Slot 4 = 18 x 5 = 90
Slot 5 = 17 x 5 = 85
Slot 6 = 16 x 5 = 80
105x100x95x90x85x80 = 610,470,000,000 different 'builds' for each character
and again.. this isn't talking about the 3 passives (which when adding them in will blow up my calculator) nor how you gear yourself.
I would say it's pretty deep.
Huge numbers are nice but overall they do add nothing. People will simple look at their skills of choice put in a rune in it, done. They can't add skilllevels to it.
In TL 2 you have a full hotbar 1 - 0 so whats 10 slots all influenced by custom stats + talent trees + gems and also upgradable gems, this way surpasses everything Diablo 3 has to offer.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

Skill wise it does but let's just hope the rest of the game lives up to their interview descriptions.
Torchlight is a game I love but found it to have no replayability without mods and literally just got bored of the game this morning at lvl 114 (have the level 999 mod in but there's not enough substance or gear differences to keep me playing any longer on that toon) as a Destroyer on very hard difficulty with no interest in the other classes. New Class Mods however still have me interested
From the way they describe their intentions and time spent making Torchlight Vs what they've put into Torchlight 2 I can almost believe it will easily be the better of the two, by far. I just hope they add at least one new difficulty level as the Very Hard difficulty quickly turned into very easy due to being able to enchant the gear so much. Less enchanting, more diversity for gear and much much tougher mobs and i'm sure i'll love T2.
Interviewers in today's gaming age need to be asking a few things to the people they are interviewing. I'm not going to get into all of them but one BIG one is simply the question you should probably start out with when you interview a dev:
"What does your game bring to the industry thats fresh and new and what does it have that it's competitors don't?"
In this case it's Diablo 3 that is the competitor to T2, and I think we all know what T2 has that D3 doesn't by now. They actually joke about it in the video.
Now I wanna see somebody come up to a Blizzard head honcho dev guy and ask him:
"What does Diablo 3 have that Torchlight 2 doesn't?"
Pretty sure they would get a big, "Uhhhhhhh......"
After reading all of the information from this website: http://diablo3dungeon.com/ and watching several beta gameplay videos, it's apparent Diablo 3 is at least ten times better than D1 or D2 and will blow then living hell out of TL2. IMO, if you play TL2 over D3 you are settling for mediocrity (Torchlight 1 was boring as hell!). Also, why are you guys so butthurt over online only (in this day and age) and the OPTIONAL rmah? I really don't understand it.

That would be because TL2 isn't even on Blizzard's radar. D3 effectively has no real competition. People who were going to buy D3 are still going to buy D3. They might buy TL2 in addition to D3, but it's not going to stop them from buy D3.
The same thing can be said about Path of Exile. It's not going to have any impact on D3's sales.
** edit ** I plan on buying TL2. I'm on the fence with D3...it really depends on if the people I game with buy it too.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

You're free to have your opinion, just like we're free to have our opinion that Diablo 3 really doesn't look to add a whole lot to the Diablo franchise or action-RPGs in general. I've seen beta gameplay videos of Diablo 3 and it doesn't look any better than Diablo 2.
As for online only and the RMAH, they're irritations that affect my ability to enjoy the game. Sometimes I travel and don't have a constant or reliable connection to the Internet, but would still like to play a game. I'd be SOL with Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 on the other hand... As for the RMAH being optional, well so is playing Diablo 3, so yeah, I'll pass thanks.
Diablo 3 doesn't look to be worth $60 to me, so I'll save my money. Torchlight 2 on the other hand, looks to be worth more than $20,so I'll definitely pick it up.

At this point, most people buying Diablo 3 will be doing so because it's being called Diablo and has a Blizzard label on it.
That's before even taking any features or quality of said game into consideration.
What I don't understand is why they've kept gold. Really, who is gonna sell things for gold on the AH when you can get a few bucks for it? Gold was worthless in D2, and it's going to be even more worthless in D3.
<childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here>
I am not interested in either game. I do want to point out that saying someone is totally delusional because they do not share your opinion about which game is best... before your game has launched.... lacks a little panache. My opinion.

Ignorance is bliss. Gold itself can be sold on the RMAH so of course it will be worth something. Infact, I believe there will be more transactions on the Gold AH then the RMAH. Just because you can sell something on the RMAH doesn't mean someone will always buy it.

In your opinion.
With regards to Torchlight 2, a $20 price tag is a great deal for a game that in my eyes is worth over $40.
Diablo 3 on the other hand, I consider to be worth less than $30 due to all of the restrictions and annoyances that the game will include, so with a $60 price tag, I consider it a rip off. Especially so considering that Blizzard is adding in a system to milk players of more money, ontop of their already ridiculously inflated base cost of the game.
So call Torchlight 2 the "poor man's" Diablo 3 all you want. I'd rather buy that than be one of the people who pays for the "overpriced and feature incomplete" version of Torchlight 2

Wait so now you would pay over $40 for Torchlight 2?? Mind = blown. I really think everyone in this topic is just a Blizzard hater in general. I'm going back to Reddit where things make sense.
Personally, after having waited for D3 for years and years, I don't care how it looks and what kind of depth it has. Blizzard's bullshit antics regarding the game has ensured that I won't be playing it. TL2 looks good and I see it easily fulfilling my hack and slash fix, so D3 is irrelevant. And frankly, I'd rather be supporting a tiny developer who seems to care about giving their players as much as they possibly can for their budget, rather than the behemoth who seems to be trying to take it away.
I've been looking forward to D3 since D2, but it's a write off now. TL2 will be a decent, if not a stellar, replacement, for a fraction of the price. My money will happily be on the little guy.

A couple/three weeks ago, my modem died. It took a full week to get the replacement in from my ISP. Sure glad I still have a few offline games sitting around that I could play.

I was going to buy D3 and now I'm not. I'd actually planned on buying both D3 and TL2, now I'm going to settle for TL2 alone. I was disappointed at first, but now, I'm mostly over it. I won't be missing D3. It's really not that hard to write off a game if sufficiently motivated. I'll thank Blizzard for that.
Given the Diablo products are usually pretty stable, I'll be buying that. I'll let other people do extensive reviews on T2 before I invest in that.
I already know with D3 I'm probably going to like it based on past products from Blizzard, but I don't know I'll have that same confidence with this other game.
Once T2's features are proven, then I may give it a go but not upfront, sorry.
I'd prefer staying with the original than a clone.
You can't really compare the two that well. Torchlight 2 is supposed to be like diablo 2. Diablo 3 is supposed to be like diablo 3...
Torchlight 1 was supposed to be like diablo 1, but in torchlight the story was forgettable, the quests were just rehashes of the same thing. The fact that you just talked to the same people every time, and they give you the same quest for someone else one level deeper, made me not care about the flavor text that much (if there even was any, I don't remember).
Someone posted a link earlier to another thread somewhere else. I pretty much agree with a lot that was in that thread. There was no real reason to keep playing torchlight after a while, or after I beat it once. Where as in diablo, the story kept me really interested in what was going to happen next, and the overall atmosphere. Although once I beat all the classes once in diablo 1, it lacked real replayabilitiy for me. I could hardly beat the game once in torchlight though.
I'll play torchlight 2, since it's supposed to be more like diablo 2, but I'm probably still going to be playing diablo 3 10x more.

Totally reasonable attitude. Despite all things about D3 I loathe, I know it will be polished on release. I do expect early hiccups with TL2, but I'm comfortable with that.

Are you skipping D3 because TL2 is going to exist, or are you skipping D3 because of the mechanics that Blizzard has announced? i.e. The real money AH, always requiring an internet connection and not having mods.
If TL2 did not exist, would you still be buying D3?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
There is one big issue with diablo 3's RMAH. If you are not a hardcore player that is willing to spend money, dont even bother playing diablo 3's "endgame". NO ONE is going to put the best items up on the normal AH and NO ONE is going to trade said items when they know they can get a decent amount of cash for it. unless you find those items yourself, you will never have them.
If you plan to play this game without dropping more money into it.... gl, it will be short lived.
I won't be buying D3, if you thought ninja looting was bad in D2, add in the ability to RMT and all D3 is going to be in ninja looting everything. RMT is the worst thing to ever happen to gaming, and blizzard is supporting it....however in WoW you'll get banned for it lol. I can see it now....RMT auction houses in WoW /sigh gaming was fun while it lasted.

Even more Ignorance! Every player will have their own unique drops - you cannot see the other players loot and they cannot see yours. Ninja looting is 100% impossible in D3. Stop sticking your foot in your mouth please!

I plan on buying TL2. I'm on the fence with D3...it really depends on if the people I game with buy it too.
Torchlight will most likely be a good game but it won't even have a 1/100th of Diablo's playerbase.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
Even more Ignorance! Every player will have their own unique drops - you cannot see the other players loot and they cannot see yours. Ninja looting is 100% impossible in D3. Stop sticking your foot in your mouth please!
