I think i would agree wtih that.

As a side note, and sort of in answer to your fallout/oblivion queries, I got to the first "town" in fallout, stopped playing it and eventually gave the game away. Yet I still play Oblviion to this day.

Fallout just lost me. I think because of the setting.

I can easily remember npc's in Oblvion as well as side quests.

Of course I wish Oblvion and even Morrowind had the strong narrative style that, say, Dragonage had.

Hmmm maybe you only read the title and missed litteraly every single post in the thread , this SPEED RUN was done in 2 hours by people who know every single inch and crack of the game and knew exactly how to go about ever objective, they have stated that it will take the average game 30+ hours to finish the main quest line , once you actualy get to it that is , and also compleeting it is still far far from "beating" the game and actualy seeing the  whole worlds story .

    Mari2k,

It's two hours by a tester who has been testing the game for an extremely long time doing a speed run with another Bethesda developer.

This is an internal contest. They did Fallout 3 in 75 minutes or so.

It's not a 2 hour main quest. it's a 2 hour main quest for people who know the game inside and out and who are literally racing to get to all the points, speed through dialogue choices and make it to a finish line before their competitors.

I don't give two shits what the main quest is even about.

I've logged 200+ hours into Oblivion without even touching the central story.

    So fart on this.

Skyrim prolly have good quests like in morrowind or Oblivion like the Dark Brotherhood i loved that quest line alot.

But the main goal in Elder Scrolls is explore do your own thing TOTAL FREEDOM whatever you wanne do Elder Scroll series never force you to do anything you dont want or like.

You can do some quest or crawl dungeons dont matter in this game. Its not a story driven game ala bioware that hold your hand and lead you through the game.

Elder Scrolls= Freedom explore quest or fight mobs whatever you like to do no restrictions eather on game world you can go anywhere you want.

Dragon age= Limitations/hold hand folllow path/invisble barriers towards boss with endless story telling you quickly skip anyway no freedom. With most games bioware makes by the way.

Its offcorse waht you prefer to each his own.

Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!

Except, the speed runs are just that giving an estimation on how long the main quest line is, and in this case a short one. Can quite easily see most of the game as a newbie player in a week or so playing casually.

Can you please name a game you find long?

It's broken down by platform. Fallout 1's fastest recorded time is just under 7 minutes, heh heh.

Can hardly count these as speed runs . . . more like glitch runs.

Eh... there are some glitch free runs out there, but whether one likes it or not (I don't), exploiting glitches is often accepted in speedruns. It's how someone was able to finish Oblivion in less than 7 minutes.

Exactly, The person that did it was a tester, thats been playing the game for the past year, with the objective strictly being to beat the game, not level, get items or take part in any exploration, also fast travel was enabled. ( It that makes a difference)

I fully understand the distinction between a dev and a paid QA tester finishing the main quest line in a little over 2 hours and the amount of time most players can expect to get out of the game.

However, I find it mind boggling that they would hold a contest like that and then make public the results, knowing that it will detract from the impression of what the game has to offer in the minds of a great many people who hear about it. Most will get the information through word of mouth, with out the benefit of the caveats and reasoned discussion. It just seems like one of the worst things the developers could ever think of doing to try to promote their game.

The process of spending years of development on a game must fry people's common sense circuits and probably puts them in a disassociative state were idiocy seems like brilliance. I just dont get it.

They want to start a competion who can beat that record under 2 hours:P

Everybody knows Elder Scroll games take at least 100+  hours playing if you play game as it should be right?

Most will understand that this was internal comppetion by devs and testers who know game very well, i realy dont se much harm in this.

This is normal for these kinds of games, if your smart and get it for pc like you should (console versions of games like fallout, skyrim oblivion etc suck cuz of no modability imo), there will be tons of mods and such. But overall in these kinds of games if you just follow the main story it'll be short, the point of them is for you to go out and explore, do side quests, find items and such. If your not into exploring and doing side quests, games like Oblivion etc might not be for you. Mass Effect is a very short game as well if you just speed thru the main story as in most rpgs now a days.  I got a fallout NV save, and I spent about 50-60 hours on it and I haven't really touched the main story at all yet. Though Mods like A World of Pain and the DLC's help with this.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
