I think you're right! WoW having 20 times the number of subscribers as Rift is all just a trick Blizzard is playing with the servers!
Server consolidation is not necessarily a sign of a dying game... but it is definitely a sign of a shrinking game. Rift's population is going down, not up.
I'm just saying if you want to hold up low pop servers as this "TADA" moment that Rift is dying, then I can point at WoW where the community consolidated into a set number of servers and the rest were dead.
The game has 53 servers running at high/medium I think that is pretty good considering this is not WoW. Anyone know the magic number of servers where people will be happy?
For those wanting to say that server consolidation is a sign of a dying game. Organize this list by the number of low servers and then tell me which company is smarter
All Trion did was what their playerbase told them to do. Get rid of the extra servers noone is rolling on anyways. Trion threw us a bone and said we could do it for free...included guild transfers which Blizzard just copied at a fee, then kept it free.

Most of my guild disappeared after the first free month. Most of the people I knew in the game were gone before their three paid months. Those remaining were kicked off the shard because it went trial. The shard no longer exists. By the time I quit as my seventh month was up... there were not even a handful of people that I knew left.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

That is you. All my friends are still playing. I still know people who love Rift and have no intention of going back to WoW. WoW is just freaking stale and the content is so damn slow it is not funny. I do not get how people stay subbed to that game.
I mean what are we supposed to be playing if Rift sucks so bad?? Eve so we can buy Monacles? Wizard 101??? What is this magical mmorpg better then Rift that just puts out so much content. LOTR last patch or expansion fizzled hard. Guild Wars whatever they had fizzled .
You want people to quit Rift so bad what is this prime mmorpg you want them to play? By your own post YOU QUIT 7 MONTHS AGO!! You have no idea what is going on with this game or what has changed
Well I think the major problem with Rift is that, it tries to be everything, but in the end, it becomes nothing.
If I didn't remember wrong, Rift advertises heavily on Dynamic Events like GW2, but what happened to it? It becomes an afterthought to the devs. It tries to take a lot of ideas from other games (nothing wrong with that, its how we humans improve) but in the process, it lost the original movtivator of it tries to become. Now Rift is just another game that roams the market, I'm playing it right now, but I just can't see anything special about it anymore.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
I don't agree with what the OP says, but I do agree with the sentiment. It doesn't aply to everyone that dislikes Rift, but it does aply to a lot of the people on this site. You only need to look through their post history to see that. If you try every MMO that releases, and complain about each one of them, it's not the game.
Okay, so provide us with the exact number of bad games that have to exist before the games become good and the player becomes the problem.
If someone dislikes 2 MMORPGs, are they the problem? What about 3? 10?
Is it your claim that there hasn't been any bad games in this genre? If not, can you tell me what the criteria are for deciding if something is a bad game (besides players not liking it, and the game coming up short in objective comparisons).
The reality is you're flailing. You're having a difficult time refuting the arguments of the overwhelming majority of people who disagree with you and the original poster about Rift, so you're trying to discredit people in some arbitrary and pointless way.
I notice you skipped responding to me previous post. I'm sure I know why. The customer is always right. The point of making a game is to get people to play it and make money. If a majority of the players buy a subscription-based MMO and cancel their subs within three months, then there's something wrong with the game...whether those players ever posted on these forums or not.
I'm pretty sure that you understand what I mean.
I'll say it again.
If I was a new player looking to play an MMO for the first time, and I came to this site and checked the forums for the various games, I woudl probably walk away thinking MMO's are horrible games.
These forums have a reputation for being a place people go to trash games. Not to mention the overwhelming amount of hate on these forums for WoW, you can't even deny that. Why would anyone be suprised that forum goers here don't like a game rather similliar to WoW?
And I ignored you post because I didn't feel like having the same arguement with a second individual.
Show me an MMO since WoW that has retained the magority of it's subscribers 3 months after launch.
I had 8 friends who went to play rift. They asked me to come with them, I stuck with eq2, now those same 8 friends are playing league of nations. I am still in eq2.
I have yet to find anything that would even take my interest away from eq2 except swtor.
Folks keep telling me eq2 is dying, or is in decline, however I am at the same point the rift die hard fan boys are, and that is things are fine, when really I know that eq2 and rift are both loosing subs, and that is not good.

I am willing to put money on it come late 2012 we will say Guild Wars 2 DE's were trying to be like Rifts. Not sure how Rift can copy something that was never really tried unless there were full scale zone invasions in another game I never heard of.

When did they start the once a week server transfers for free?

I'm going to lock this up guys. There is too much baiting going on.
Locked.
