Hmm, I have noticed a difference in reading over a lot of posts regarding this game.
It seems, anecdotally, that people who play on the Sith side are having a better experience in game, with regards to the story etc. Again, this is just me taking it in from a lot of threads, and purely anecdotal, but could it be that there is a better quality story on the Sith side?
Just curious.
Anyway, the game was what I expected, and no change here. I like it. Keeping my pre order. ;-)

The Sith stories seem to flow better than the jedi ones. Still, my preference is for the ranged characters and stories overall.

Yes, I had the same experience, I tried a trooper and a Jedi Knight but had a hard time trying to stick with them past lvl 4, so I stuck with the Siths who had a lot better story, much more action and just felt generally more fun to play. I think there could be a large unbalance with the factions for PvP servers.
I think a better question would be: Who's changed their mind after reading any of this flame war on mmorpg.com?
Not many minds are changing, so more threads are (apparently) pretty completely pointless.
You sometimes start threads being naive that people might actually feel the same as you but so long as you knwo you're being a bit niave its OK so its not entirely pointless, for me anyway.
This doom and gloom thread was brought to you by Chin Up the new ultra high caffeine soft drink for gamers who just need that boost of happiness after a long forum session.
This weekend didnt sway me one way or another because after the last beta weekend I was sort of hooked on the story elements and how immersive the story was for me, just hope it lasts for a while. This weekend was spent playing all the classes up through their first planet to get a feel for the gameplay, without a doubt I can say I will not be playing a Jedi Knight or Sith Warrior. Up untill 5am this morning I was on the fence between Trooper (or BH) and SI (or consular) but then I decided to start a fresh IA (played a smuggler last beta but forwhat ever reason I didnt enjoy him) and so far he is a blast, cant wait to test him out in PvP in 3 more levels. Ive been reading all the forums I can about the 3 classes for tips/hints and prospects about endgame from former beta testers so who knows what I'll play.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Though I do give everyone the right to bash me over the head with this popst in the future if my prediction of TOR being a very big sustained success for many years turns out to "new toy" syndrom but this the first MMO I've played since WoW that has that feel of quality and longevity.
Are you saying you haven't played any other mmos since WoW? Because I think only someone who is completely new to mmos will find this game interesting.
Rift grabbed my attention immediatley and held it for a couple of months during which i maxed three characters. This game bored me after a couple of hours.
Soo....you actually found Rift interesting for a couple of months and was immediately bored of SWTOR?
Never EVER use MMORPG.com forums to decide if you should try a game or not....if the posters here had any say, we would all be bitter trolls with nothing to play.
I disagree. I routinely find that I have the same sentiments as the majority of posters. Now, if the game has a free trial, sure try it out. But if it cost me money I go with what the majority are saying. Its never let me down, and I've noticed that I've never liked a game that's recieved a lot of negative feedback.
Despite what some claim there have been games that came out that did not recieve overwhelmingly negative reviews. Rift, WoW, and LOTRO comes to mind. Of course, there were some, but most were positive. Hell, most people who didn' enjoy Rift said that its a solid game that a lot of people will like. That is not a negative review, unless one is a fanboi who can't handle others not liking their current flavor of the month.
I know I sure changed my mind. Man, when the chance for another weekend came out. I say hey it won't hurt to do one more weekend. Sadly I regret doing so now. After this much time with the game all I can say is. I'm sick of.... waiting for it. I need this now. I even rolled characters that I said I wouldn't roll till retail (Trooper and Consular). Found out that playing my Trooper is like crack. It's hard to step away from.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Honestly it just confirmed what i already knew. This game is not for me. Im glad i got the chance to take part in the beta since i was still on the fence about the game. Its hard to not want to try something that is hyped as much as TOR. What sealed it for me is the massive amount of cutscenes and dialogue. Yes i understand that for most of you out there thats the exact reason you love the game, but for me its a deal breaker. It plays exactly like a multiplayer mode of KOTOR, which is kinda what I expected it to do.
I started off with a Sith Inquisitor, although im sure my experience would have been nearly the same for any class. I picked this one because I always play Wizards/Sorcs in MMOs and I liked the idea of throwing around some lightning. Introduction to the story was well done, and i expected a decent cutscene with dialogue to lead into it. What i didnt expect was that at every step of the way I was bombarded with more. Want to pick up a quest...cutscene. Want to turn it back in....cutscene. Want to run a dungeon...cutscene. Honestly enough already. If i wanted to play KOTOR i would be. In single player games its fine, I loved KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age (only the first one :P). But here, I just know its going to get old. When i hit level cap I already know im gonna be farming the same zones over and over for the gear i want. Thats what you do in MMOs, theres no way around it. What i dont want is to have to listen to the same dialogue and watch the same cutscenes EVERY SINGLE TIME i want to run that zone. Imagine your 50th run of the same instance....seriously.
Ill admit i didnt get very far. In the first few hours of gameplay i watched over a dozen cutscenes, running dozens of dialogue wheels and I was over it. Im not putting the game down, it looks fantastic, the combat is smooth, features are well done, its just not for me.
The only real problem I saw with the game was the addition of a good/evil meter. Isnt it enough we choose a faction at character creation, I mean who wants to play a 'good' Sith. Its just going too far, theres no place in an MMO for the good/evil deeds meter.
No mind changing here, just confirmation that this is a game that is goopd fun for me. May not do a lot of innovation, but it makes me want more, and I actually have an interest in playing almost all the classes. The main reason you see so much negativity in the forums right now, is that the 85% of people enjoying the game are still playing right now
Can't say I changed my mind since I had not made up my mind. After some huge disappointments a few years back, ie Vanguard, I no longer buy MMOs until I've tried them. Same with SWTOR. So I got the opportunity to try it this weekend, and that experience was enough for me to make up my mind:
Nope, I won't be buying this game. Strip the VO from this game, and you'll see how incredibly shallow and soulless it is.
to e honest i was very much on the fence. I waffled 2 or 3 times at cancelling my pre-order based on leaks on the web and the constant droning that this was WOW in space. I HATED WOW the 3 times I tried to get into it. I piced up a chararacter in beta yesterday and if it wasn't for some server issues I would still be playing it right now....that's how much different the game is from WOW. No it doesn't break the mmo mold or offer much in the way of ground breaking additions, but it is a solid fun game and thats where there key word is FUN. I'm not laying out spread sheets to manage resources like eve, or trying to compete with the jonses for the best gear, I am having FUN...something I haven'
t had much in games aside from freerealms, but that was more cause it's fun to explore in free realms. So, hey if it's not your game sorry but this is going to keep alot of people interested not only in mmos but also the star wras franchise.
I haven't, I said before that I would probably purchase the game, but not sub, and nothing during the beta has changed my mind on that. I don't know if you will have to sub right away, but so far don't see anything that will make me play more than 2 months tops. However I've only played 1-10.
"Great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about events, and small minds talk about people." - Eleanor Roosevelt "Americans used to roar like lions for liberty; now we bleat like sheep for security." -Norman Vincent Peale
The storylines had me hooked more than expected, so I decided to preorder. It should be fun for at least the first free month and maybe one or two after that. I am not into the geargrind, so I'll probably leave once I leveled a one or two chars to max. If I am not bored by it by then .
I liked being nasty on my Sith gave a certain satisfaction lacking from other Dark V's Light games.

That's kind of like saying: "Strip the Warcraft from World of Warcraft and you'll see how much of a LOTRO / Warhammer rip-off it is."
Changed my mind indeed .. enjoying it more then expected.
I keep getting this feeling though that i'm playing Kotor 3 / mass effect ... with some annoying MMO part attached to it
The story is awesome .. even immersing .. until there are 4 guys named pewpew , Babipangpang, SnuckNorris and Legolas waiting for the same boss to kill for your "heroic" story :S
I already have the chat turned off ... would be nice to turn other players off to
When focussing a game soo much on story, it's a shame it gets ruined by the players. Maybe this would be one of the exceptions where a social lobby only would have been best .. or a Kotor 3 with Co-op if you will.
Changed my mind from hyped and ready to even more hyped and more ready.
But more seriously I went from a normal edition to now buying the CE because I liked it more than expected and my expectations were already pretty high.

The statement doesn't contribute much.
In other words, for YOU the VO is just about everything in this game. Which pretty much confirms my statement.
Btw, WoW can't possibly be a LOTRO ripoff since it came years before LOTRO. Same with WoW vs WAR, at least the online game.
Never EVER use MMORPG.com forums to decide if you should try a game or not....if the posters here had any say, we would all be bitter trolls with nothing to play.
Totally agree.
Just a shame everytime anyone has a valid and informed opinion on here (from over fifteen years of playing mmos from UO onwards) they get called a Troll.
And that's exacty your problem - the old style of gaming is GONE. I do believe UO is still up and running though and it's calling your bitter troll name
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

See, now you're putting words in my mouth.
I never said VO was everything, but it's very obviously a core element to the entire experience.
Warcraft is pretty much WoW's key element, being from a previously successful and well-known IP. And, please, if you thought I was talking about just the MMOs between Warhammer and Lord of the Rings, I don't know what to tell you. Warcraft Lore is nothing but blatantly borrowed stereotypes - of course, now-a-days they can't even keep up with that what with retcons thrown to and fro.
Yeah I might even puck down for that CE even though I usually never buy those. The game was just that fun for me. Im not one to rush through games. Im the guy that explores arkahm city and all the side quests before completing the main storyline. So I don't mind all the cutscenes. It just makes the world that much more immersive. For those that thought they could rush grind this game like WOW its no wonder they are disappointed. This is not that kind of game.

All that preachy jedi "light side" crap is boring

The game feels lifeless with ittle environment content, all the mobs are static, the
character creation is like wow (poor) the missions are still the same boring "go fetch
10 bearskins" simply put the game is bland with no innovation other than cut scenes
which belong in single player games, grouping is an issue in regards to some want
to watch the cut scenes & others want to skip, The whole game feels like hundreds
on mini instances, with no open world at all... oh & lets not forget the space mini game
on rails (or 'starfox' as we used to call it 20yrs ago)
Where is the £300+ million & 6 years of work? ...cos i cant see much of it.
