The guy is playing with low graphics. He doesn't even have shadows on, nothing. So we can't really tell from this video.
But yes, there are a few poor textures here and there in the game (i.ex: the distant ground textures in Alderaan) . Some NPC textures, even some character clothing (but only some) also look bad here and there. It looks like some things were done years ago and not updated since, many other things/NPCs look much better.
I am lvl33 now and from what I have seen the older looking textures represent about 10 to 15% of the game. The feeling I have is that the game is so big that they didn't have the time to update everything prior to launch.
It's so much better in most other themeparks where every creature walks back and forth in a 3 meter diameter. Regardless if you are trooper in a trench line, a bird, or a bear, just keep swarming in every direction like some insect nest and all is good
I'd rather have the troopers sit tight and only the sarge to walk back and forth like they currently do in TOR. Also the mobs that you dont see that comes flying down with jet packs or ropes in some places are really cool too and adds to the atmosphere. The creatures that sit completely still are my own complaint, it fits most of the humanoid guards in most/many situation, and there's always the wandering ones too, but I dont like creatures as in monsters and such that never does anything, at all.
What I dont miss at all are the 1HP snakes that serve no purpose other than making sound when you aoe them, just to remind that they are there, lowering your game performance as the only purpose of their existence. There's critters in TOR already, in Taris for example, they are called nexu, bogstalker, akk dog, etc. Labelling them officially critters and dropping hitpoints to 1 does not change anything, it just renders the critters into game performance lowering feature with no other purpose.
Why is it completely dismissed that this game has huge AA-guns, air fighters and such on the background making for example Balmorra actually feel like a warzone? Every other themepark I've played has none of that, not that I remember, can someone confirm features like this for WoW, Warhammer etc? I cant remember ever seeing anything like that making me feel like there's a war going on, or something similar, all I recall from most other themeparks are the 99% of creatures regardless bear/humanoid/bird moving back and forth in a small diameter or walk on a patrol circle while everything else stays still.
See, that is another thing, this video is a perfect example of why this game fails. The guy spammed the same frakking spell over and over again...how is that fun? How is that challenging? He never had to move one inch...he stood in the same spot and never moved! he didn't have to do anything, in fact he was able to send his companions off to do work while fighting a world boss mob.

Stand and do nothing, the same spot, do nothing.

Yes, in the Barrens you see Horde and Alliance forces fighting it out. Twilight Highlands - ships and airships fighting it out, and on the beaches there are skirmishes going on. In Ashenvale, Horde and Alliance forces are fighting it out there. So yeah, you see battles taking place in WoW. They have planes dropping bombs, catapults, even huge tree guys tossing fiery boulders.

My experience was limited to a Smuggler in the teens, so this may change at higher levels, but one thing that killed immersion for me in beta was feeling more like an Empire beat cop (fighting separatists, criminal gangs, and corrupt petty officials) than like a rebel smuggler. I mean, wasn't I supposed to be the criminal separatist?
Too bad Bioware didn't create a third faction and give players an option to defect or not. A faction for dark side Jedi, light side Sith, and Bounty Hunters and Smugglers just out to make a buck or to help people caught between two warring powers. I mean, what was my Smuggler thinking, working for a military occupation that tortures people and blows up refugees for entertainment? No wonder people complain about how unsatisfying Republic is to play!
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

When all else fails attack the poster. I really think the defenders are getting desperate. If not the lame gameplay the mounting exploits will break the camels back sooner than later. How dare anyone post anything negative about this savior of genre? Fucking fanbois never cease to amaze. I dont care, I will take the ban.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.

This is exactly what they should have done.
Unfortunately, it takes a lot less thought, effort and vision to create a stale 2 faction WoWesque MMO... and BW did exactly that. They took the easy way out. Whether that's due to their inexpertise or lack of vision, who knows?

You seriously said why this game fails, lol, it s far from failing at all.
Failed for me. Go back and reread where I state, failed for me. Here I'll highlight it for you.
Actually, read your own post again, you said that it is a perfect example of why this game fails in reference to TOR.
You did not say for you, you just said TOR fails.
The only time you said for you, is with regards to something that killed the game for you.
Anyway, why are you still posting about TOR? you obviously dont like it, and you said in your blog that you wouldnt post about it any more.
Good luck getting those that dislike the game to stop repeating themselves in each and every thread. From what i can tell the sandbox crowd(fyi I'm a sandbox fan I just call games how I see them) have decided if this game succeeds it means the end of any last chance they had at a new sandbox game being triple A. I can to some degree understand as I've been waiting on a good sandbox for years but the reality is no matter how good this game would have been it would have never satisfied the hardcore sandboxers thus the crusade.
Do I really want another swg one day sure but I'm in touch w/ reality and its telling me that we will never see another sandbox game that is even in the same ballpark as swg.
Failed for me. Go back and reread where I state, failed for me. Here I'll highlight it for you.
Failed for me too, and I'm happily willing to wager it failed for many others and it will continue to fail for others yet.
Basically, if you're after a living, breathing world - if you're looking to vicariously live in the galaxy far, far away then you better look elsewhere because you're not going to find it in SWTOR. Not beyond a superficia, finite level, anyway.
Unfortunate, but true!

if we don't complain developers will presume we love these type of games and continue to dish them out. all we have got in the last 5 years is crap and more of the same crap. i don't think we are complaining enough.

I see skirmishes in many places in TOR, Alderaan beeing one good example. Empire and Republic are fighting all over the place.
I haven't seen bombs yet, but cannons and heavy artillery, yes. Many times.
To me it sounds like you aren't playing the same game I do. Oh, you say you played beta? Well this explains it perhaps.

Seriously, what point is this???
The guys is lvl 50, he is fighting a lvl30 boss and spaming only 1 skill. How is this representative of anything?
When I am fighting same level Elites I am having a hard time very often, and sometimes even a very hard time. Forget the Champions without an adequate group (yea I got 1 once in the earlier levels). I have to use most of my skills, without stuns, interrups, etc.. its just not possible.
Yesterday we tried a same level boss (the huge robot that spawns in Narshadaa 30+ level area) with 3 people (tank, healer, dps) + 1 companion. We were wiped out quickly.
Compared to many other games, this game's heroics are a real challenge and it is very welcome.
With such a pointless point you are only showing your hating on the game. I am surprised, reading your posts over the years has usually been rather interesting. But today you seem to be hating freely.

Would that guy be moving around even if he had a full party and everyone was in the level range of that boss mob?
Man peoples expectations are way to high for this game, they did tell you from the get go what they where making. Its not a general MMO. I just got the game last night and am having fun playing it. My expectations from what Ive read are pretty spot on so far. Theme park, Start location A. follow the path from thier.
Ill play the differnt storys then leave and come back when they add content but anything more than that your wishing. People need to understand this was never from the start planned on being open world MMO with PVP in mind. Theme park RPG, with MMO elements added as an after thought, hell the PVP was even a after thought.

He's talking about bosses or enemie npcs being static.
Like for example it'd be interesting if the boss decided it's time to test the player and to change up his style of fighting. For example by moving back or something least kiting. Because for example the player would have to respond by changing a skill or something.
But other than that I'll agree on what your arguing about.
I noticed you brought up graphics being on low for the other video, yea true but that wasn't the point, it's for example little things like npcs standing an doing nothing with no actual lifestyle of their own, so it's true you could get immersed in story but outside of that it changed unless you make up in your own mind what's going on rather than experiencing it you know?
I mean one could argue that no mmo has done something like that, well that's about to change, it was a fun experience as well, but if you don'tt believe then I'll show.
Aion got this to an extent, so did Rift, though the fact that DE's or rifts were in place it covered it up more so than what SWTOR is doing, not saying Rift is a better game, I don't even like rift(PVP and no ability delay was awesome though TBH).
There are some other MMO's that got this issue as well but cover it up better rather than telling you "We don't do nothing."
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Would that guy be moving around even if he had a full party and everyone was in the level range of that boss mob?
What? The boss? I don't know if he would change aggro and run after the healers/caster.
But yes, you got a point. As of lvl33 I haven't seen any world bosses roaming around freely as we can see in a couple other games (Rift beeing a good example).
It's so much better in most other themeparks where every creature walks back and forth in a 3 meter diameter. Regardless if you are trooper in a trench line, a bird, or a bear, just keep swarming in every direction like some insect nest and all is good

If that's all you are going to say I take it that you like your troopers, bears, birds, snakes and everything else to swarm in every direction on a 3 meter diameter. I could even argue that it's a lot worse than if there was a game where everything stood still.
But seriously, if you really hate themeparks/TOR so much, I suggest you cling less to it, there's tons and tons of people like me who really dont care how realistically a snake lives his life in a game like this, with no problem at all if the snake does not even exist, the priorities are so heavily placed elsewhere obviously, this is not the "live your virtual life in Star Wars"-game and never tried to be one. It's amazing how people can whine at things like "it does not feel like Star Wars since light saber does not one shot everything" - seriously? This is not the "live your virtual life in Star Wars"-game and never tried to be one.
Ps. Thank you for refreshing my memory, there are indeed in few places non static stuff in WoW, wasnt just so memorable, and it's been a couple of years but it does exist indeed.

I was replying to "lvl50 player spaming only 1 skill on lvl 30 boss".
But yeah I'm only in my 30ies, I haven't seen the higher level bosses. But I have seen a lot of talk from Bioware about how raiding is supposed to be big, so boss tactics having been a standard feature in mmos for years I don't expect this to be any different here?
I hope you are not telling me it's the opposite. In that case I agree and this would be very sad. Fortunately they said they are actively working on this, so we'll see.
As for NPCs, I find them very much alive and nicely animated (their body parts move doing something). Much more than in most other mmos. (I have just seen the Lotro city NPCs again today; although that game had 4 years of development, TOR's NPC life/movements looks next-generation in comparison). But few are roaming around (as in lotro), and NPC sounds are almost totally missing. I agree.
Comments

Also, I do not care if you are Sith or Jedi, how is that Star Warsy at all? That is what Ithink killed this game more for me than anything and that includes the dead lifeless worlds, and that is that I wanted to play a Jedi and I ended up playing a mage with a frakking glowstick! <<< Read this.
How is that Star Wars?!

A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
The previous paragraph you said why this game fails, not mentioning anything about you. Then proceeded to say you. Two different things.
Bingo!! Thank you, why, I m guessing bored of her other games, so forum pvp is all she has.

I need to take this advice more.
It failed for me too so now there is two of us.

I need to take this advice more.
if we don't complain developers will presume we love these type of games and continue to dish them out. all we have got in the last 5 years is crap and more of the same crap. i don't think we are complaining enough.
Thx for making my point for me .
What? The boss? I don't know if he would change aggro and run after the healers/caster.
But yes, you got a point. As of lvl33 I haven't seen any world bosses roaming around freely as we can see in a couple other games (Rift beeing a good example).
I agree.
