See, that is another thing, this video is a perfect example of why this game fails. The guy spammed the same frakking spell over and over again...how is that fun? How is that challenging? He never had to move one inch...he stood in the same spot and never moved! he didn't have to do anything, in fact he was able to send his companions off to do work while fighting a world boss mob.
Seriously, what point is this???
The guys is lvl 50, he is fighting a lvl30 boss and spaming only 1 skill. How is this representative of anything?
When I am fighting same level Elites I am having a hard time very often, and sometimes even a very hard time. Forget the Champions without an adequate group (yea I got 1 once in the earlier levels). I have to use most of my skills, without stuns, interrups, etc.. its just not possible.
Yesterday we tried a same level boss (the huge robot that spawns in Narshadaa 30+ level area) with 3 people (tank, healer, dps) + 1 companion. We were wiped out quickly.
Compared to many other games, this game's heroics are a real challenge and it is very welcome.
With such a pointless point you are only showing your hating on the game. I am surprised, reading your posts over the years has usually been rather interesting. But today you seem to be hating freely.
Playing my lvl36 juggernaut against my own level mobs and packs, I charge, use force push on harder mobs to take them out of combat for a moment, then build some aoe power to my smash with force choke if the situation is good for it, then smash for maximum effect, build some rage with my two basic attacks to finish the weak mobs off with my aoe kick-saber move and then proceed to the last harder mob that I first pushed, with ravage, shout, saber throw etc depending on the situation a bit + some basic moves.
If I fight elites I have to play very differently, time choke for when the enemy tries to heal for example if I have used my interrupt, same with force push, also I need to use shields and stuff that are not neccesary on normal packs unless something misc happens.
There's so many different things and scenarios I've been to with my juggernaut. And the only fights I can just stand still are single elites... Wait no, I cant, they often throw me away, and I often throw them away. On harder fights I take cover behind stuff to lure ranged in or gather scattered mobs for aoe.
Normally I move in every fight since it's neccesary just for the reaons it's not like WoW or Aion, WAR etc where you pull one mob that use only autoattack on you and you stand still using your 3 DPS moves on it. It's always 2 or more enemies, with half being melee the other half ranged, they throwing you and you them, a lot of movement in about every fight.
Spamming one move? Cant remember the names of my moves since I dont look at tooltips usually after placing the ability on the hotbar after gaining it, but yeah, one move spam: Basic rage builder, sundering rage builder, ravage, choke, push, charge, short charge, saber throw, smash, aoe-kick thingy, saber ward, interrupt, temp hp gain, pommel strike, butterfly kick, force shout, force slow, enrage. Those are the mostly used abilities on juggernaut, that's 18 moves and I use most of them (12+) in most of the fights, and it looks sweet since all them have unique animation instead of "heavy hit" and "basic hit".
It's fun, comparing for example to WoW that I played for a couple of years, where you pull 1 mob at a time that runs to you and start spamming auto attack and you spam (litterally) only lightning bolt at it, about 3 other moves on top of that if it's elite. If it would feel like the same in TOR, I damn well would not play the game.
But hey, stand still and spam one move! Ignorance or hating?

He's talking about bosses or enemie npcs being static.
Like for example it'd be interesting if the boss decided it's time to test the player and to change up his style of fighting. For example by moving back or something least kiting. Because for example the player would have to respond by changing a skill or something.
But other than that I'll agree on what your arguing about.
I noticed you brought up graphics being on low for the other video, yea true but that wasn't the point, it's for example little things like npcs standing an doing nothing with no actual lifestyle of their own, so it's true you could get immersed in story but outside of that it changed unless you make up in your own mind what's going on rather than experiencing it you know?
I mean one could argue that no mmo has done something like that, well that's about to change, it was a fun experience as well, but if you don'tt believe then I'll show.
Aion got this to an extent, so did Rift, though the fact that DE's or rifts were in place it covered it up more so than what SWTOR is doing, not saying Rift is a better game, I don't even like rift(PVP and no ability delay was awesome though TBH).
There are some other MMO's that got this issue as well but cover it up better rather than telling you "We don't do nothing."
I was replying to "lvl50 player spaming only 1 skill on lvl 30 boss".
But yeah I'm only in my 30ies, I haven't seen the higher level bosses. But I have seen a lot of talk from Bioware about how raiding is supposed to be big, so boss tactics having been a standard feature in mmos for years I don't expect this to be any different here?
I hope you are not telling me it's the opposite. In that case I agree and this would be very sad. Fortunately they said they are actively working on this, so we'll see.
As for NPCs, I find them very much alive and nicely animated (their body parts move doing something). Much more than in most other mmos. (I have just seen the Lotro city NPCs again today; although that game had 4 years of development, TOR's NPC life/movements looks next-generation in comparison). But few are roaming around (as in lotro), and NPC sounds are almost totally missing. I agree.
No it's not the opposite just te issue is upcoming mmos are changing that, like some actually have enemie npcs kiting once they are taking a lot of damage.
But your asbolutely right when comparin it to Lotro, even vanilla WoW.
To me I hope they focus primarily on Ability delays, pvp, and this(but doesn't need to be top priority.)
As for the world it self being static that shouldn't have been expected least for those that didn't try beta or look at any gameplay videos.

Yopu are referring to the wow that got broken when they decided to make it easy to appeal to casuals/braindead players (WOTLK and on = 3 shot everything fest), not the older WOW where you had to plan group pulls and not just wade in. Not sure what this has to do with the OP post though, maybe compare SWTOR Ambiant wildlife and NPC AI to WOW if you are going down that route?

The guy was outgeared and outleveled for the world boss, and he was using quite a lot of abilities. Hes a madness speced Sorceror, who has a lot of instant cast damage over time spells. The force lightning that you see a lot of is the filler spell which procs instant cast for spells with a cast time, so you need to pay attention to when it procs.
Later in the game the mobs will crowd control the healers in your group, move out of aoe's, run away, and the dungeons have heaps of moving involved to avoid environment damage. Like rocket blasters coming out of vents, suicidal robots, flame throwers etc. You definitely cant stand and spam 1 button as any class in SWTOR. I have played pretty much every MMO in the past 10 years, and SWTOR has had the most involved combat and encounters I have seen since EQ2 / AoC. Definitely more involved than WoW, LOTRO or Rift.

Ok show me a video I have leveled from 1-27 and I swear to the man up stairs I have not seen any of that but flamethrowers must be dependant on personaly story or something.
I saw the flamethrowers, if what you say is true, it's terrible that it's not consistant.
Is this open world gameplay or just the personal story parts?
Also your first paragraph confuses me.

ToR feels like youre running through a diorama.I hated it in Asheron's call way back in 99 and I cant believe a company would take anywhere near the same approach today..
Its in flashpoints and operations. And yes, the higher level planet / storyline mobs are smarter and more active.
So you telling me that you must go all the way to higher level to experience a smart AI?????????
You have fraps or in game program to confirm this?

Funny how BioWare couldn't make a decent game world in this day and age of MMORPG technology... As a AAA title receiving ample time for development and ridiculous amounts of money, it should be embarassing to have what looks like a soulless game world. Jeez guys, rumors of this thing arose in '05. A company with this name, this kind of money, with all this time to make an MMORPG, shouldn't have such a basic problem as a "static world."
But hey, you guys got your voice overs
OP: You saw the problems in beta, saw it wasn't even being started to get fixed in beta, and still signed on to buy and play this game. Now you're complaining about it still? Dude...
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." I feel fully immeresed in TOR due to the excellent graphics, representation of the Star Wars universe, music, characters, and story.
It truly "feels" Star Wars and what is more immersive than that?
Do I wish the Nerfs and other wild life moved around a bit more? Do I wish that there were night/day cycles and weather? Of course I do.
Is it a game breaker? No.
Does it make me feel less immersed in Bioware's Star Wars world(s)? No.
I tell people, just wait till you get to Tatooine. Oh my does it "feel" like Tatooine and feel HUGE.
Nothing more iconic of a location in Star Wars than Tatooine IMO and Bioware nailed it. 100%.
Would I love to sit and watch a Tatooine dual sunset? Of course.
Does not having that make it any less Tatooine? Not to me.
the more I have been playing the less issues I have been having with graphics and all that and more issues I'm having with the actual classes and skills.. they are all so generic so dull.. The talent trees are just awful.. I have yet to find a single force user class thats interesting to play(skill wise not story) at all. Bounty Hunter skills are somewhat more fun but like said earlier the trees are just awful and I really dislike how much they discourage cross tree specs. They intentionally made it so putting any thought into trying a cross tree spec will just end up waisting several points since trees increase differn't stances, cylinders, or whatever your class has making that talent useless if you are not in that stance or using that cylinder ect...
I honestly only continue to play because the bounty hunter story I find pretty interesting so far but really if not for the story I really see no reason to play this game.. so disapointed in what EA/Bioware has done to my beloved star wars universe... would of prefered it been a mass effect MMO then I wouldn't feel so bad for disliking so many aspects of the game as much and probably wouldn't of expected as much.. oh well

BH/Commando does seem to have the most fun abilities.
Jedi Knight takes some time to get the really fun stuff like Force Stasis and Force Push. Maybe its because the last game I played before SWTOR was a couple weeks of Rift, but I find the abilities very fun (Rift is the worst MMO Ive ever played in terms of dull abilities) but I completely agree about the trees. I dont like the three tree system being so overused, and the trees themselves are fairly lame in SWTOR. I hope they give us a reall AA system that gives us some interesting choices.

That may be, but at least this is a pretty honest take. The expectations of the star wars universe are causing some over analysis. Im also betting if SWG never existed people wouldnt get so hung up on some stuff too.
I apoligize if this was already stated to the OP, but here is a soluton to your audio issues.
Ambient sound and background music are almost always playing. You just can't hear them, becaue Bioware did a terrible job with their default preferences.
Go to sound and change
Sound FX to 25%
Music to 100%
Ambient/Background sound to 50%
Voices to 50%
That will put all the sounds in the game at an equal average decibal level. You will be able to hear everything at the same time. If there is music playing and a voice over clip is playing, yuo'll hear both. If there are blasters in the background during a convo, you'll hear both. You'll hear ambient sounds just as loud as you hear the background music.
Another one of the issues with this game's sound is that COMBAT music is about twice as loud as NON-COMBAT music. So yes, with the above sound settings I listed, your combat music will indeed be pretty loud, but it won't be so loud that it will drown out other sounds. But the out of combat music will be quite faint, but loud enough to always hear.
The sounds could change depending on what speaker set up you have or whatever. I usually play most games with headphones on, but SWTOR for some reason does not translate into headphones very well, not as well as other games I've played.
You know what's immersion killing for me? Taking a huge performance hit so we can all ignore the useless NPC loons wandering around chattering like magpies.
Yeah I'm sure there is NOTHING that would just kill your game performance more than npc's and mobs walking around a little more or actually doing stuff. And what if they added world creatures? Wow probably lose 30 fps easily with that. /rolleyes
I suppose that was deliberate video and it's not like that on most servers, or?
The casino video? No, that's how it is everywhere. As the worlds are rather large but the amount of people that can be in them quite limited, it's only on occasion that you see people passing by. So you end up with places like that, massive places with no players and no npc's, except for the players passing and the three npc's acting like dicks.
That's what every city and social hub is like man - not just with a lack of other players, but the npc activity (or lack thereof). It's game wide.
Only after playing SWTOR I understood how brilliant idea it was from Blizzard to add the girl and boy who stole her doll in Stormwind. Little things like that made cities and villages in Azeroth feel alive, whereas in SWTOR all friendly areas feel dead.
Although my reference game(s) wasn't wow - I can totally relate. Didn't even really think about that sort of thing until the giant ABSENCE of it in TOR.
The argument that "this is how all mmo's are" doesn't work at all, as many AAA mmo's over the last 5-8 years have done an excellent job creating what feels like a living world through ambient atmosphere, npc acitivty, npc conversations, npc and mob scripted pathing / events, lots of creatures running around, etc.
then give us a few examples. i cant think of any...
You only need to look two posts back to see Rift used as an excellent example for comparison.
Sometimes it seems like people demand examples as a sort of cheap debate tactic?
It is...I can show you plenty of examples from games like WoW, Rift, Aion, and Vanguard that shows how poorly Bioware did when it comes to creating a non-lifeless world.
Sorry... those game are just as lifeless and dull.
Um, no they're not, it's not even close. I've played all those listed and add LOTRO to the list of having way more of what is mentioned in the OP as lacking in SWTOR. You can say it ain't so all you want, but it doesn't make it so.
NPC's standing around doing nothing. If they are talking it's on a loop.
Same NPC's fighting in the same area everyday. To the extent that they are used a directions! "go to where this guy and that guy are fighting and hook a left and youll see it"
My personal favorite - NPC's are fighting at the edge of town... the guard kills the mob, sheathes his sword and walks away... and 30 seconds later... THE MOBS TWIN COMES FOR VENGEANCE!!!!!
maybe im a bit harder to "immerse" than most of you... but i kind of never forget that im playing a game and it aint real! i dont expect the little digital characters to do something amazing just cause i decide to stand around for 20 minutes watching them as i E-RP. theyre meant to be background... thats all they are. put too much thought into it and you get what we have here. lol.
My point is this - you call it an immersion killer. whatever. ...but with all the issues that TOR has... NPC's that are less than "dynamic" really are the least of their concerns. and honestly... to pick THIS as something to bitch about... something that is present in damn near EVERY MMO out now... well now youre just try to find new ways of beating a dead horse.
Sounds like it's just a feature you don't care about to be honest, so to you it's all the same regardless.

I'll only focus on atmosphere as finding good videos of the rest is near impossible. I'd have to do the recording myself to show it.
This one is in a cantina. Imagine the music turned off. They are there but hardly audible.
Underwhelming.
P.S. I can totally see where the other camp is coming from. If how they play is with the horrid music turned on. Or all sounds completely off and listening to personal music.
Shame you didn't add one of the Jedi Temple, good lord.
Dude...
Dude...... don't worry after my 30 days sub is done.

OH! I kept thinking "Jedi Temple? That place is a ruin and is supposed to feel dead." but I think you mean the Jedi Temple on Tython???
I travelled there as a smuggler and quested with a friend who got into the game a bit later.
I think since it's a Jedi Temple I didn't see it as a problem if the place had a library vibe to it.

Not sure what this has to do with the OP post though, maybe compare SWTOR Ambiant wildlife and NPC AI to WOW if you are going down that route?
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
Didnt quote the OP.

Its in flashpoints and operations. And yes, the higher level planet / storyline mobs are smarter and more active.
This is always a big negative for me in MMO's..
ToR feels like youre running through a diorama.I hated it in Asheron's call way back in 99 and I cant believe a company would take anywhere near the same approach today..
So you telling me that you must go all the way to higher level to experience a smart AI?????????
You have fraps or in game program to confirm this?

I feel fully immeresed in TOR due to the excellent graphics, representation of the Star Wars universe, music, characters, and story.
Not to me.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
the more I have been playing the less issues I have been having with graphics and all that and more issues I'm having with the actual classes and skills.. they are all so generic so dull..
I honestly only continue to play because the bounty hunter story I find pretty interesting so far but really if not for the story I really see no reason to play this game.. so disapointed in what EA/Bioware has done to my beloved star wars universe... would of prefered it been a mass effect MMO then I wouldn't feel so bad for disliking so many aspects of the game as much and probably wouldn't of expected as much.. oh well

Cantinas weren't always such awful places.
I think this is from the end of beta in may... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Z6FCMyWS8
You're a hater.... you were dissappointed before you even started.
Wait, so now having random programs on mobs is better than having animated mobs in the various cut scenes you'll see every few minutes?
I'll take the latter over the former any day of the week.
