Did someone just say TOR has a unique art style? It's terrible..
Can't argue taste and opinion bud!
How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?
ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian. Subs will be so low there is no need for more Snoocky-How many servers? The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.
The biggest issue here is last i read and i feel bad for sandbox fans in us and eu and all they had no plans to bring this game to the west or westernize it.
So i hope u dont mind playing a game in its native langauge
hmm thats interesting. last you heard? where did you hear this? read it somewhere? mind posting the link to the site that gave such info. last i heard this game was designed with a "western feel" for the western market. called it a SANDPARK game. but if you have info that we dont i would love to see it.
ArcheAge is a sandpark title being developed in Korea by XLGAMES and Lineage creator Jake Song. Thus far there are no public plans for a western beta or release.
i found this at massively.com its under a story titled xl releases new archage combat trailer.
so i misspoke about no plans to westernize just no plans for beta it seems sorry. That still doesnt speak well to when u will see this game loook at tera
Yeah, they didn't even put proof for that statement. I found this quote at the same site.
"But above all that, we should finish development and find a publisher who will partner with us to introduce [and distribute] Archeage to Western players."
"I think these facets of ArcheAge are what Western game players want and enjoy."
This ones the kicker: "We will introduce a localized version of ArcheAge to Western players in the future."
To be honest I don't want to be building a freaking farm in an MMO.
Who said you HAVE to build a farm. It's just there in the game for those that want to do it.
Like me. I like the idea of building a farm, and other businesses like that. I'm just a little concerned that this is the sort of game where every time I'd try, I'd be logging in the next day to find it had been destroyed by other players.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I don't know much about the game, but from the videos I've seen, I probably won't be playing it. The art style reminds me of every F2P game I've ever played.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying the artstyle is generic and unappealing.
then you need to list the F2Ps youve been playin that look like AA. because AA is gorgous! if theres a f2p out there that looks just like AA i want to know about it. oh and screen shots or it didnt happen and if you think the art style is generic and unappealing then what mmos out there would you say are better then AA. now think about this long and hard lol.
Just becauase the game may look pretty, doesn't mean it has an interesting artstyle. Arche Age has that generic Asian F2P MMO look, even if it has stellar animations and a good draw distance, the artstyle is so uncreative. In my opinion MMOs like SWTOR, Dungeonrunners, WAR, WoW, Darkfall, EVE, and EQ2 all have what I would call creative and unique artstyles.
lol, seriously? creative? unique for sure, ugly, maybe. but .. creative? Why is cartoonish graphics more.. unique (?!) than Archage, which uses one of best engines available, and looks so dam real? If you failed to include wow or tor in your list, it would be fine, some of games you mentioned have interesting art styles. Im not realy a fan of cartoonish style, but dungeonrunners at least never tried to impose itself as something serious, and thats why its style fitted it perfectly.
And yes, it does look pretty. it also looks real. your famous tor, doesnt look either pretty or real. In fact i cant stand its graphics, and its not even korean. But im still gonna play it because the game itself is interesting.
ps: I hate all these western companies using cartoonish style, its so uncreative.
after i read his responce to my post i was dumbfounded. trying to understand why he had such an opinion. then i read what it says under his avatar.
"Someones gatta be at the bottom; so why do people find it wrong that i was to be there"
i think that statement sums it up.
ps. he also failed to list these "generic Asian F2P MMOs" that look just like AA. i wasent playing when i ask for a list. because if there are f2ps out there that look just like AA, i should be playing them.

thank you for doin the leg work for this, i just didnt feel like trying to prove to yet another person that there goin to reliese ( or at the very least, PLAN on relieseing) AA to the western market.

No problem. When I posted that I was actually under the impression that you were saying they didn't plan on it. Then after I posted I reread your post and figured your true meaning (Long night here).
Also, to a previous poster worried about griefing of his crops in AA, I dont think that will be an issue. I doubt that they would put in something like that. But if they do, I'll be on here complaning as soon as I find out about it. But I do know that the tree planting mechanism seems like it might have the chance to be used as a griefing tool. But I'm sure they have thought of that. But if you plant trees (Outside of your yard most likely), other people can chop them down.
Note: I just updated the original post in order to clear some misconceptions and to help some people understand what AA is about at a first view.
Sandbox MMORPGs that are not very well-known but definitely worth a look:
Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom server)
Kinda like watching a new player in Eve and saying that the entirety of Eves combat is no more than click one button and sit.
Thank you both and very good and accurate point there marinrider. Also I made another update regarding Anime/Asian style..

Good OP update. I too was getting frustrated by people saying the combat looked bad based on a video of a VERY low level character.
Kinda like watching a new player in Eve and saying that the entirety of Eves combat is no more than click one button and sit.
Didn't have anything to do with a low level toon. The engine looks rigid and ill-equipped for fluid combat. That certainly may change, as it does for some games from beta->release, but right now it looks terrible.

At least it doesn't have a GCD of 1.5 seconds, which kills the flow of combat.
And let's not forget about the lack of auto-attack for NO reason (the combat is basically like WOW with extra 1111), good job Bioware, now i have to look at the skillbar all the time.
A skillbar that i can't even move -_-

I'm sorry but this kind of question saddens me! Unlike 95% of the mmos out there, ArcheAge doesn't focus everything around combat. I personally miss old MMOs where combats were just a small part of the game, and had so much else to do aside from that, just like ArcheAge plans to do now.
Anyway, back to the question since nowadays everyone only care about combat. I would say ArcheAge is rather similar to EvE online. It's not an action based combat system, it's more of a tactical one, where you have to actually think (heavily).
Creating a proper build is the first step. Some skill trees work better together than others. Then you have the combo system, that makes combination of some skills have additional effects.
So, once you're finally in the fight itself, you have to try to correctly combine your skills to do that extra +50%/100/120% damage, or that additional 5s of root. And CC. It's pretty much impossible to create a character without having at least one CC. They are in every tree, and by their very nature they force players to think instead of brainlessly spamming hotkeys in order.
Are they thinking of some sort of manual attack option, here you have to click each time to swing. Is the combat at least a little bit more engaging then Eve's soul crushingly dull zerg-target paint fest? How does one use strategy in skill combos, don't you already just memorize the correct combos that are the best for a certain enemy? Or do you need to constantly need to change tactics based on what the enemy does such as countering attacks/buffs/defenses etc.
How would you compare it to say, WoW's combat? How difficult is the game, b/c the vids make pve seem easy, does this change later? In PVE do you "move on" to different zones after out leveling it, or are the difficulty of monsters quests kind of spread out so that old areas are worth going back to? Do you think this game will quell some of the general forums crying for this type of MMO?
in regards to houses and building on your land/yard
how large is your "land" area around your house?the area thats actually associated with the plot of land your house is build on?
is it possible to build 2 houses side by side and have them so close together that they are up against each other? so that no one can travel between both houses?
is it possible to fill your land with trees? ever since I saw the first "house building" video I was thinking of using trees to build a maze around my house. would this be possible?
is it possible to craft in your own house? do you need a crafting station type of thing? will crafting only be done in the main cities?
To be honest I don't want to be building a freaking farm in an MMO.

Other players can't destroy your buildings in AA.
Your houses can be detroyed if you do not pay the property taxesto whoever owns the territory.
It is possible that a group who controls territory in the 3rd continent could suddenly jack up taxes to destroy everyones houses... though it wouldnt really be in their interest.

The character editor needs indeed a lot of work, the models are looking quite nice but nothing compared to Aion so heres hope they are going to work on that. Hope you can hide the portraits and scale the frames.
I absolutely love the minimalistic UI, thats the way it should be done.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

I thought it worked great for Aion. Best customization of any MMO to date.

Interesting thread. Some of the criticism here is quite funny.
Oh yea someone mentioned having a farm?
Yup, that's right. Pigs and cows. (Acessorily, i made the videos linked by OP, so ask away!)

Hows the combat?
Great looking game.
Still looking to see some of the PvP action, also crafting.
Pains me to think it's likely more than a year away from western release.
