What is your purpose here NMStudios? Why are you so upset?
ArenaNet has their own schedule of development and now closed beta is on that list. What in the world does this have to do with another game and another developer?
lol Upset? Hardly.
Companies pay attention to their competition, that's normal. I simply do not believe that their timing is anything but strategy. I also believe that it was a poor decision on their part, because the hype for SWTOR is just too big.
I'm not upset, I'm not complaining, just commenting.
The rage with this one is unprecedented COPIUS. As I see it the hype you speak of, I be lookin at these numbers and since beta its been dropping not by a lot but, its going down.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.

I think you are paranoid, or chasing windmills.
If you have followed GW2 for any length of time then you would know that 1.) the last profession would be announced before any beta announcement and 2.) they would annouce the closed beta before the end of this year. So does it make sense it to announce it now or at Christmas time?
And besides, this closed beta means nothing to everyone here except make it an official milestone in the games development. It has nothing to do with any other game. All they are doing is following their own schedule. And besides, didn't SWTOR change their early access days like a week ago anyway? Really you are seeing something that is not there at all.
So, they planned to announce it right before early access, but were thwarted by BioWare's moving it up a couple of days? Is that what you're saying? I think you're right, because it would have been a lot more news worthy and gotten a lot more notice that way, where right now during the early access frenzy it just gets lost in the swarm.

They should have just canceled their closed beta. Swtor's development is more important to arenanet then gw2 development afterall.
Or you can look at it and see that gw2 has been planning to go into closed beta towards the end of 2011 since the beginning of 2011, and that they announced it very discreetly (i dont believe it's on their website) that they're going into a limited closed beta with no signup process...
I dont see what you want arenanet to do. Go into closed beta before their ready for it, or cancel beta until swtor is out of the way?...which both seem to be the marketing ploys your scoffing at anyway.

lol I was smart enough to pre-order the first day, just as I will for GW2. I played last night and loved it, and were I not at work right now, I'd be playing as well.
we will see in a couple of hours if you still keep posting.

If you expect that just by releasing information on one of the eight professions should have an effect on TOR.. then what the hell will releasing the game do to it?
Looks like 200,000 accounts created on the first day. Nice try.
Hi, My name is World of Warcraft. Did you know why my system admins killed themselves? It was because so many people tried to play, the servers imploded. But I'm sure you're right, my launch was tiny, not a genre-changing event or anything.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

No one is claiming anything about changing the genre, simply the size of the lauch. Even Aion had a larger launch than WoW.
Why do you care about the timing of the beta? It's not like other games where you buy the preorder to get into beta, but need to be an actual tester suited for...testing the game. It's a sign, though.
So this thread has been destroyed thanks to someone who thinks that the world evolves around SWTOR. Yes, you are right. Everything Anet informs us about, is to battle SWTOR. Their whole developing schedule is created (in vain of course) in trying to tamper with SWTOR's success!
The idea that they revealed the info about closed beta just to appease GW2 fans to let them know that they are still on track, is despicable! Those evil Arenanet employees!
I smell a decidedly obvious bout of trolling of GW2 fans. I wouldn't hold out hope for closed beta beginning soon if I were you, at least not until we get something from the blog.
That link above is a Q&A with a dev, the quote I gave was a direct quote from that dev, what more do you need?
Intellect from the people I'm talking to?
Think about it. I could create an account named ArenaNetTeam anywhere, just as I could claim to be Jon Peters or anyone. It should be obvious to anyone that information isn't official unless it is linked to a verifiable source.
You'd make a bad Wikipedia Editor.
This is an unverifiable source, and until I see someone from ArenaNet claim that this is them, I see no reason to believe why this isn't just some random person on the Internet having fun. Because that's the nature of the Internet, and these are the sorts of things that happen. Anyone can claim to be anyone. You could post on another site using my name, but it wouldn't necessarily be me, if you get my drift.
Now please understand here that I'm not accusing you of trolling, which I think you might have taken to heart, but rather I expect you to realise that the person you're quoting may be someone trolling you.
---
And frankly, I'm at a loss for words at the people who're actually buying that this is real. We've had successful trolls who've pretended to be people for months, before. This is a known thing on the Internet. How quickly people forget.
Wate wat? After the mesmer was leaked 2 days ago, Anet announced on the GW2 facebook page that they will do the official reveal on wednesday and will also host a Reddit Q&A. And they DID post it on their blog as well: http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-devs-answer-your-questions-today
All you had to do was check the most obvious GW2 info sources before making this silly rant.
We will officially enter Closed Beta Testing this Friday. It will be marked with an increase in our pool of testers. To clarify, this phase of testing is still under NDA and is not open to the public.
Based on the feedback we get from our current Closed Beta Testing, we will determine the next phases of our beta program in which we will open beta access to more people.
Well, it's probably our fault for responding to him.
That, or you could have gone the LOLINURFAISE route and pointed out that, yes, ANet should have taken into consideration everything he suggests, if GW2 were as weak as the game he's talking about. Luckily they don't have that problem.
Charr: Outta my way. Human: What's your problem? Charr: Your thin skin.
Ya no thunder stealing GW2 have been saying for a bit they will be entering beta around 2012 .....dont think they are timing anything to screw up other people, but rather timing it when things are at certain stages in the development of the game.
Having said that, awesome news, cause I am a huge fan of several games, including this one, and looking forward to a fresh fantasy MMO
Sounds like a sad attempt to steal thunder from the SWTOR launch, just as it was with the release of the final class. A failed attempt, actually.
Between you and me, and you have to promise not to tell anyone...
They really don't give a crap what SWTOR is doing. They're not in direct competition.
They actually wished some of the people that work on SWTOR luck in the launch the day before. Heck, I wished them luck too. I'm not a SWTOR fan but it's just polite, regardless of the feelings you have for the game.

So see? They actually don't have any ill will toward SWOTR at all.
Yeah I saw when they did that. I don't know why people insist on pitting these two games against each other. I could see pitting SWTOR against other p2p games, but not a single MMO in history ever has, or ever will, stop people from also spending money on their console games, which are a one-time payment (not including DLC, ofc). GW2, not a console game, but also still a one-time payment, so there's nothing stopping people from owning it and whatever $15 a month game they desire. GW2 is not worried about competition because they won't have any, that's not how they'll be making their money.
People will be playing those other games, but there's a good chance they'll own GW2 as well. All the fanbois that come into GW2 threads shouting about other games seem more worried about the impact GW2 will have on their game's fanbase than anything else. Doesn't speak well about the confidence you have in your game.

I surely can't ignore the rabid swtor zealots that manage to thread crash nearly every thread I read on mmorpg.com
As I recall both WAR and AoC had 1mil+ preorders.

Tho' it seems like I've signed up for beta over a year ago? Is that right?
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

People who think they do it to annoy SWTOR are wrong about this !
Wow..some of you guys. /facepalm.
Even Anet and Bioware doesn't hate each other. So why are you guys hating each other over a video game?
