...balanced in lower levels, really that bad omg. Dont know what to say..what a joke.

Was testing different classes, also the agent melee operative. Dooh the weakest class i played so far, you get steamrolled by lots of other ones. Weak backstab dmg out of stealth and some kind of class where you have to use a rifle in close combat, since your melee dmg isnt that high.  I dont get it why classes are that unbalanced in the first 20 levels and i dont believe that classes will really balanced at 50, just looking at their abilities.

What classes are you playing and whats your pvp expirience so far ?

    Operative as well here.

    And having a blast, tbh.

You have to LEARN TO PLAY the class to appreciate it though. It's squishy but very viable.

    Pro-tips:

    - Corrosive Dart everyone up, spam your AoE bomb and see your damage rating soar.

    - Keep moving in big battles; cover doesn't give you much of a dps advantage as an Operative anyway.

Also at level 20ish you get access to a melee finisher (Laceration) with extra damage procs which makes you much more lethal at close range.

It's a great class for ninja' ing objectives in Warzones solo. Even if they are defended: sleeping dart -> cap -> rofl!

I focus on objectives most of the time and only go for high damage ratings if my team is settled, objective wise.

edit: also despite the level scaling, having proper gear helps a lot, get your earpiece, implants, proper mods asap.

    Agreeing with Dark Pony.

I am just about to hit level 22 for the third time (tried a few classes) on a Jedi Shadow. It is probably the class most suited to my playstyle, and I am better with it. For the first 10 levels of PvP, I wasn't great - somewhere mid-bottom of the damage table. Now, I end up in the top 3 or 4 almost every time without fail.

I no longer get 'steam-rolled' by any class, and personally I find a good player playing ANY Empire class to be a challenge. Sadly, there don't appear to be a lot of good players around atm! xD

The first thing the OP said that was wrong was "balance at lower levels" there is no lower level PVP you get put with everyone from 1 to 50 but your stats get boosted obviously if you got at 10 you will have a lot less skills than a person at 50 but its still balanced I know cause I played at 10 and now at 20 and I am usually voted MVP so I dont know where or how you have been playing ofc more skills means you get an advantage but its not game breaking.

    Jedi Shadow Infiltration spec

Loving PVP TBH  sneaky sneaky and explode on people with interupts, mez, stuns and good DPS,    very squishy but providing you get the first strike you should be fine.

Key to PVP is knowing your class and keeping your gear orange or purple due to how Bolstering works.

Level 22 shadow with level 20 purples your like a 50 with purples which is a massive stat difference over a 50 with greens.

Play to your classes strenghts some you can just facerool the keyboard and do OK others you really are watching cooldowns looking for targets isolating people etc etc

I like shadow as despite its stealth its a real challenge to play well.

Its not a class that will get you top of the leaderboard though we are single target DPS so we simply cannot put out the overall damage ratings that a BH trooper (AOE) can put out.

Operative is great in PvP. That's hardly a reason to say the PvP is awful anyways. My guildmate dominates as operative.

I always hate when people judge a games PvP by the early levels. Especially since the OP admittedly only played to level 20 at most.

High level classes are a totally different beast

That is interesting because in WAR the low level PvP was far more fun and balanced than the high level PvP where some classes got their uber-lol skills which could one or two shot people just a couple of levels lower. I am guessing this game will be similar because themeparks are rarely balanced for PvP in mind.

You are incorrect Yamota. You can speculate all you want, but I have experience. I played at level 50 in pvp during beta.

This game is very balanced. You wouldn't know that, but it's ok. I do know, and have seen it in action.

My experience with PvP has been very "rock-paper-scissors-esque".  On my seer I go after troopers but run from sith, on my sent I hunt everything but those nasty ops light me up if not paying attention, my trooper gets off a good amount of damage but gets destroyed if I let melee get close, and my Smug is JUST starting to come into his own so I have nothing concrete on him yet.

And how much does actual player skills factor into this? Or is it 99% about class choice, gear and levels?

I like pvp in this game i am mainly playing a sniper right now and am having a blast!

Defending as sniper is very fun and a nightmare for the Jedi/Sith warriors they will not come close to you at all if however i am the one attacking its a completly different story.

The stealth classes are actually very important since they can come close to a sniper and open the path for the team members this of course would take some team work to coordinate it tho

Im a veteran PvPer, Daoc, War, etc. swtor have the most balanced pvp system that i have played in a MMO, however shadows and inq are a lil op tbh. the PvP in swtor, is balanced, try to learn some tactics form other players.

Skill is important in this game. Because of the way the global cooldown works, you have to be very selective with which abilities you use. There are many things that involve player skill in the pvp. Obviously not aiming, but tactics are important.

Level itself is 100% unimportant in warzones (what the op was talking about) and it can be made up for in world pvp as well. Maybe you haven't heard of the bolster system in this game? (Everyone's stats are normalized in warzones, no matter what level).

Gear is still important, however it is not an insurmountable challenge to overcome. A player who outgears me has a decent advantage, but it is not as large of an advantage as most games of this type.  A level 50 has advantage over lower level because of the gear, not their level. Expertise is the pvp stat and it grants good bonuses, but a lower level can kill 50's.  I killed a 50 in alderaan at level 15 on my operative during beta.

Class choice is unimportant. Even a proper pvp spec isn't really necessary all of the time.  As Ikeda else posted, there is kind of a rock paper scissors thing going on. Everyone is strong against some classes and weak against others. This doesn't mean they can't win vs the classes they are weak against, just that they have to show some skill in those fights. My inquisitor healer is kind of weak against some melee classes, but I can always bubble, stun, heal, sprint to get away or get some help from others.

Imho, more player skill than your average themepark pvp; you've got access to a ton of abilities suited for varying roles, even at lower levels, multiple class mechanics to take into account, etc. Also its pretty fast paced.

In WAR for instance, you'd typically use around 3-4 abilities constantly with some secondary ones occasionaly; in Swtor it's more like 8+ abilities which you'll use in pvp often and a whole range of occasional ones. On an operative at least. There's a lot of opportunity to improve and learn imo.

I have enjoyed pvp and feel its pretty balanced. It only really sucks when you random queue with a bunch of people who don't understand how to focus on objectives first and kill second, but thats the nature of the beast when you are grouping with 3 other people.

I am playing a scoundrel dps, and while I am squishy I have the ability to escape combat and if I get lost in a group battle I can wreck havoc on the opposing team. I have been able to go plenty of games with no deaths and end up 2 or 3 on the dmg and objective pts. However if the other team realizes my class I am usually ripped through. I have killed every class one on one and have died to every class one on one. The hardest class for me are the tank class ass my burst damage only gets me so far into the health pool, so those fights usually end pretty close.

All in all pvp is pretty fun.

This part I am glad to hear, should be like that in any MMORPG with PvP.

Class choice is unimportant. Even a proper pvp spec isn't really necessary all of the time.  As Ikeda else posted, there is kind of a rock paper scissors thing going on.      This however I dont like. Class choice should only influence play style and should not give any significant advantages over other classes, skill and gear should, in that order.

Anyway, I am still on the fence regarding this game. I dont at all like single player storylines in an MMORPG so I would just skip those but it seems that it is such a huge part of the game that there wont be much left after that. So I am waiting to see how the PvP evolves. If it becomes something big so you can play the game only for that then I will get it. So far that does not seem to be the case.

What is OGMWTF funny is lvl 50's in the same battlegrounds as lvl 20's just utterly steam rolling them. Bolstering is the biggest joke ever introduced into mmo's in a long long longggggggggggggg time

You do not even have remotely close to the same number of skills as someone who is 50. That is like putting a mosquito up against a mack truck...wtf was Bioware thinking?

    @OP

I'm sorry you are having trouble winning PVP with all the classes you've tried. However, to show that there is imbalance, some of the classes have to be overpowered, and you gave no examples how YOU were able to steamroll others with particular classes.

Therefore I submit that you haven't given us a story of class imbalance, but rather a story about how bad you are with PVP despite trying all the classes.

No no no, I tried several classes and saw a big difference, limited with the lvl but still. Maybe some are late bloomer, but fact is that there are classes out who feel a lot more powerfull than others in pvp. Your answer is typical to provoke instead of giving thoughts for what I was asking for, your own pvp expirience.

Btw you feel the difference of the classes not only in pvp but also in pve...

Anyway, seems like this operative class doesnt plays like a rogue and you cant rely on your melee. Its like a hybrid class. I was opening always from stealth with my melee, yeah I have to learn this class since its a new combination and options in comparison to the classic stealther classes...most have to find out whats up with their own class since the game is new. Best advice is anyway to play at least some of the classes to a certain low lvl, thats how you learn at least a bit about how other classes works.

Thx for the contribution, always intersting to read the expirience of others.

I think the pvp is great. I love it. I play a Sith Assassin, currently 27, I get facerolled by bounty hunters but I can do well against everything else, except maybe chain CC.
