I think i was 15-16 when i started playing UO third dawn, and I bought the game twice because i didn't have a CC and i couldn't find any time cards.  I was still able to play for my free month both times without any sort of payment information.

But of course anything your favorite company does is ok.

ofcourse they will charge because you set a recurring subscribtion. Forgeting to cancel and then blaming company is just convenient.  How about cancel it moment your account gets activated? i do it all the time and if i forget i can only blame myself for beign care less. Do you even have a real argument here?

Yes maybe you are right actually.

Any one familiar with business law please tell me if there is a solid foundation for this ?

its like buying food at a restaurant : forking out cash even before you get in there, then paying full price before you get to enjoy the low quality of this steaming turd of a game.

while the dish is ready in the kitchen, suddenly you need to give them your credit card so they can charge you at a later date, -should you make the mistake of walking to there direction.

I for one had little repsect for this game in beta, buying this turd just to play with friends, for the love of god bring out GW2 or any next gen MMO.

Shit : UI, GFX, PvP, PvE, WORLD, lol random IP/server herp.'

This game is near ready for Beta and its officially, people have been mentioning bugs like the UI for months and nothing happens, -this tub of shit will loose 50% of the players in 6 months.

You must be new to MMOs as this is what EVERY SINGLE MMO EVER does.

I love how these people that say they hated the game in beta still buy it. Then claim they were forced to buy it or forced to do this or that. Real simple-don't buy it. I think they are just mad that their favorite game to bash is out now and successful, so they are having to reach to continue bashing it. It must be worth the $60 to them to have some more ammunition in their quest to bash.

I don't understand why people who didn't care much for SWTOR in the beta bought it knowing they only want to play for one month.  That's a ridiculous waste of $60.

I am simply amazed at the people complaining about having to sub up front,

there is only one service out of the many i have ever been able to pay for after i used the service,

and that is at a restaurant.

All other services require a payment up front that includes Cable TV, Satellite TV, Internet Phone, and cell phone service

along with groceries, rent, i can go on but you get the picture.

feel lucky that they don't apply 1 to 2 year contracts on MMO's like they require on cell phones.

this is for America however and i have no clue how it works in other country's but

i cant imagine it being much different.

you are buying a P2P game.... and complaing about having to enter info to support the P2P model you are agreeing to when installing the game..... wow.... just wow... do you go to mcdonalds and complain that you have to pay money to buy a hamburger and fries before you can eat them??

or you have to pay the phone company to have an active phone to call people?? OR how about putting gas in your car... do you complain about having to drive to the gas station and pay for gas to drive your car???

i mean really.. this game you buy the physical copy (that price pays for the marketing and production of the physical copy as well as make them profit) then you pay a sub WHICH YOU AGREE TO DO... when you click "i agree" to the TOS/EULA....

    if you dont like it... DONT buy the game and dont pay the sub for it... not really rocket science @_@";

you arent greating a nutron bomb from a potato and copper wire here....

if you disagree with paying money for the game (entering your credit details for later billing) then dont install the game and dont make an account to play it... >>"

Before you start disemboweling foam from your mouth, this isn't an against SW:TOR post.

This is no joke, there are tons of such ridiculous regulations.... I heartily hope EU will burn with upcoming fall of EUR.

While your holding your breath over that, we really should make something out of the supposed power of many.

Didn't check whether you're an european smartass or from somewhere else on the universe, but US is already filled with ridiculous legistlation such as you posted (which by the way has been cancelled since).

What is wrong with this is, is that they encouraged you to enter your registration code before early access ended so you would get seamless play and prevent any loss/delay to items that came with it.

If they wanted you to pay / enter payment details then it should be all done at the one time. Now people who have entered their game registration code and waiting to get their time cards, are now losing the 30 days that came with the game as can no longer play. Fortunately I did not register my game. I was going to, but never got around to it, then the site was down for miantenance. Came to do later and then saw all these posts, so now I just need to wait for my time cards to arrive, which I do not see getting before the New Year now.

I do not remember doing this with LOTRO. I bought a LT sub but it was within a month after release, and did not need to enter payment details.

If it was not for the hacking going around atm, seemingly just targetting MMO companies, I would provide details without hesitation.

I have not come across this procedure for ages. WOW and SWG recently were not asking for card details if you had a game registration code.

Is this related to 2 days grace period and subsequent account suspension?

Are you sure your 30 days period start with account creation and not setting up payment method actually?

While it's not a huge issue for me, today I received a lovely email from Trion basically informing me that the information I put in to play Rift for my 'free month' has been stolen by hackers. Name, CC info including expiry date and security code, dob, address...

I never even subscribed to Rift after the free month :(

No name, no security code, no full credit card number.

If you have no creditcard they do. Did not even found a 30 day card and had to by a 60 day card. That part in my opinion is just odd. Just because it on the box and comon practice does not make it less strage to me :P

It was your choice not to use a standard payment method - CC. You have to bear the consequences of your choice. You are not forced into anything.

Yes, I have admitted several times and even stress myself that the process of subscribing and immediate canceling isn't intuitive. The information could probably be provided more clearly and easier to find.

It was common practice few years ago, but it it is no more common anymore. All the mainstream games don't need your cc info to have you play the game for the 1r month, they don't need your cc info for trial, when they renew old account for veteran come back days or whatever. They used to ask them though. They don't anymore for the large majority if not for all of them. Why did Bioware/EA put back this practice into this game is something i just can't explain, or wish not to explain, i'll let everyone decide what are the reason. Omission, lack of experience, greediness, i don't know, i don't care either i won't play this game. But when i see fan boys flooding and pretending it is today the most common practice, its plain false. It used to be back then, like 5 to 10 years ago. It is not anymore, check any of the few last gen mmo and check by yourself.

If you look at my profile and date joined you might conclude that I have been playing MMO's for a long time. It's kind of ignorant to keep pointing that it's common practice and that everyone complaining has the IQ of a cucumber. It's not common practice.

I have been part of MMO's as a consumer since I got broadband Internet, which is in 2000.

I bought the game checking that gamecards will be a valid payment option. Now instead of pointing out how inexperienced I am, and everyone else complaining as well... tell me why am I forced to buy a gamecard now to use my free month?

THAT is not common practice as well, and it will not hold up in a court of law.

lol it will not hold up in court? Yes it will hold up in a court of law, you sir are wrong.

LOL did u even read the EULA? And yes it IS standard practice since my first MMO UO.

Wait I get it this post must be a joke, cause I cannot believe someone is complaining about this.
