Loved Rift for the 6 months I played. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Trion and it's lead developer/producer.
However, the macros killed the game for me. Mashing 4 buttons on my action bar that did 25+ abilities made the game unappealing.
I'm a huge fan of Bioware. I loved Kotor 1 and 2, and Mass Effect 1 and 2. SWTOR is ver similar to those games with an MMO component. I can do solo to 50 or I can group up and do Flashpoints/Heroic Quests to 50.
SWTOR is the game for me for the forseeable future.
Have to vote against SWTOR. Game was fun for about 30 hours, then I just couldn't log in anymore.
Rift is certainly no savior of MMOs like many here would have you believe. The community is just as crappy as WoW.
Well yeah, because it's just WoW again.
I tried Rift again myself (was in Beta, wasn't impressed) after being bored to tears in SWTOR. Well, it's better than swtor imo but that's not saying much, really.
Rifts get old really quick (at least they do for me), and the mechanics of the much-praised soul system just seem off to me on a number of levels resulting in not that many truly viable or useful builds.
But the community does take the cake, I felt like i was reading barrens chat all over again in the starting zones, for those of you that remember what that implies.
Going back to lotro and CoX myself, but really why wouldn't you play WOW instead of either Rift or Swtor?

God this excuse is so lame.
"They made it possible for lazy people to put the game on easy mode and I had absolutely no choice whatsoever and hated it to so I quit"
I don't use macros, heal / DPS aswell as anyone else and feel like my brain is being engaged.

I'll go out of my way to make the gameplay harder on myself. If you're in a raiding guild, then you get pigeonholed into doing the optimal set up.
The macro system completely killed the game for me. WoWs macro system is great.... Makes the game efficient without dumbing it down. Addons like DBM are another story.

If I'm healing / dps'ing as much as anyone else in a guild and they pointlessly try to make me use macro's, I would change guild because such a request would be dumb.

Just ressubed to Rift after my free SW:TOR month. Haven't touch Rift since summer 2011. Really pleasantly suprise, it's not the game I want overall in my gaming choice, but it'll do for now mixed with single player/Co-op gaming.
Giving a couple of more tries with the mmo genre with TSW and ArcheAge, but single players games gave me more fun in the last couple of years. Guess my time is nearly up and soon I'll let my place to the younger crowd
(Not an attack to the young gamers, I just mean that I prefer to leave a genre instead of becoming an old grumpy MMOer)
You would prefer to spam a 1 button macro and look at generic spell effects? OK then...
Huh?
You can spam 1 button macros if you CHOOSE to use them, to dumb down the game because of an OPTIONAL FEATURE is dishonest at best (BTW I do not use macros). Also read my signature, there is no "generic spell effects" in my game.
What did you expect a Vegas Showgirls cutscene with the casting of Thunderbolt?

IT was a dumb decision by Trion (the only one really) to allow a few buttons to completely ruin the combat/game play. It should have never been designed this way. Wow got it right.
That is a damn good review and I am well aware Bluedot was a HUGEEEE TOR fan and to have him say some of that stuff is actually shocking. I never expected to see him come back not out of dislike for Rift, but for how much he wanted TOR to work.
I liked a number of things done in Rift, in general, Rift will offer you a smoother experience than TOR.
However, after leveling a character in Rift, I couldn't imagine ever doing it again, while I've started and am actively playing several alts in TOR for pretty much the first time in my MMO history.
Endgame and dungeon complexity would probably go to Rift, although I enjoy TOR's pvp better, despite the messiness. I did encounter far more open world pvp in Rift during the level-up process.
Generally however, I'd have to give the average "fun factor" advantage to TOR, mostly due to the leveling experience.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
So what exactly makes some of these people believe we want them back? These people expected Rift to just pause while they played TOR and it cost us more then a few servers and guilds fell apart.
Last thing we need is you guys doing is coming back praising Rift for features it had when it was sure as hell evident what TOR was missing in comparrison. I honestly hope to god most of you who left end up back in WoW and are forced to suffer with 6 month content releases and cash shops. We are not stupid here. If you jumped ship for TOR, then we all know you are going to leave when GW2 comes out so why even bother?
This game needs loyal players not band wagon game hoppers.
No offense but at this point I am sure Trion would disagree.
Band wagon game hoppers money is just as good as yours to them. Not bashing Rift at all. But that comment was pretty dumb o.O
Any MMO lives or dies by subs. So while some will stay and be " loyal" others will come and go based on the content, new games, ect. These are exactly the people who will keep your game from going F2P. Why? because they also provide an influx of money to help develop and keep alive your game.

Rift of course! It's a complete game with great graphics, atmosphere, solid gameplay and awsome customer support!

Neither, but if for some reason I had to choose one.. I'd pick rift.
In pvp, the macros matter.

just read this link today and thought it was a good read.
this guy always tries to keep hit feet on the ground and just lays it out there.
SWTOR vs RIFT

Funny that you post this in the Rift forum, and Rift wins.
I played both Rift and SWTOR the first month they came out. Got a lv 50 Assassin/41 Powertech in SWTOR, and 50 Warrior/50 Cleric in Rift.
I highly enjoyed rift more.
No offense but at this point I am sure Trion would disagree.
